Currently our students are doing online until Sept 8th. The plan is for those who want to return to the classroom, they can at that point and those who want to continue online may do so. Today they were having a meeting to finish up the plans ect for those returning to school. Crazy texted me to ask me if I would be comfortable in having any "sick" kids who were waiting to be picked up stay in my office if they got some sort of plexiglass screen or other partition to put into my office. Uhhhh...... My office is not that large. I have a credenza against the back wall and a desk, with my chair in the middle. So my desk is about in the middle of the room. Then there are two more chairs on the other side of my desk and a space of about another two...maybe three...feet(depending how close the guest chairs are pulled up to my desk) until the other wall with the door leading out to the hallway. I told her that I would not be comfortable...especially if the kid was coughing and sneezing...as they would only be at most three to four feet away from me. AND....the biggest reason....I do not currently have health insurance. I can't afford to get sick again. And if I did get sick and it was worse than my mild case this summer and/or required hospitalization then that would basically render me homeless as a result. I am hoping that they have a plan "B". There is an empty conference room they could use except there would not be anyone in there to watch them...so I guess that isn't a solution. The front admin. offices are even smaller than mine. The front entrance/lobby is too open. Maybe the cafeteria since it won't be used for lunches (kids will be eating lunch in the classrooms). The receptionist's desk is in front of the cafeteria with a window looking into it. Yeah....I don't want them stuck in my office. Sorry/not sorry.

houstonsandy, maybe that's the answer: "I would consider it if I had health insurance." I doubt she would ask you again!

I thought of you today and here you are! I'm so glad you declined. The unused cafeteria with an observation window is the best choice.

Well....I finally got a new computer today. My happiness may be short-lived however, depending on the answer to this question. You see...its a desk top. The IT guy had to connect it to my office phone with a cable to get internet. My question is: am I going to be able to connect to the printer down the hall? or am I totally screwed....

Not necessarily. As long as the printer is on the same network as you it can be done. My desktop computer at work is hardwired to a jack in the wall for internet but can connect to the copier/printer in the main office (which i connect to wirelessly when using my laptop)

If it is a wireless printer you can also get a wireless "adapter" that just plugs into the desk top allowing you to access the printer through wifi. Sorry I don't know the details, but I can ask DH if you need more info. We did this for our desktop.

The IT guy got me connected to the printers today...yay! I'm happy now. School is back in session but it has been so quiet and uneventful these first two weeks.

School has been sooooooooo quiet so far. Boring actually..... One thing that does keep us busy though is taking temperatures. We take temps every morning as kids are dropped off, when employees come in, visitors....you know the drill. The front desk has one of those zappers that takes AA batteries, but I have a different (older) type that take AAA's. Well....the batteries in mine died nearly three weeks ago. Since no one else is allowed to have back up supplies like tape, batteries, staples....(because employees might then use them for personal reasons) I had to ask crazy for some new batteries. I sent the request in an email as well as talking to her in person. She did not have any AAA's but promised to get some for me. The following week...still no batteries. I asked her about them again and she said she was going to go to Sam's later that day and would pick them up. The next day she comes to my office bearing........AA batteries. I reminded her that I needed AAA's. Then she told me that the admissions director told her I needed AA's. Sigh....anyways...so she planned to return the AA's (Why? I don't know. The school also uses a lot of AA's in computer mice, wall clocks, the other temp zappers, calculators...) The next morning as I passed the admissions director he told me that he specifically told her AAA batteries as he watched her write down "AA" and corrected her to AAA. Still she bought AA and then blamed him! lol....he just wanted to set the record straight. So here it is nearly three weeks later and she still has not gotten the damn AAA batteries! I mean...Target is literally just four blocks away. There is a Walgreens on the corner. Yes, I could get them myself but why should I? I already pay for stamps out of my own pocket to mail transcripts for college applications because I do not trust her to mail them. They have a postage meter at home that they stamp the outgoing mail with and then mail it from there and I have been around long enough to know that things don't always get mailed when you send them through that route. I don't want some poor kid to not get into college because crazy forgot to mail his transcript so I stamp and mail important things myself. I will now have to bring up the damn batteries every single day until she decides that maybe I need them after all.
Another thing I noticed that she did last week was to go into the budget spreadsheets and remove all of the "balance forwards" from last year's budget spreadsheets for different clubs and organizations. A lot of the clubs/organizations had money left over in their budgets since we didn't finish up the school year after spring break last year. This is money that the clubs raised with fundraisers ect and anything left over is usually used for some sort of end of year party or activity. Since those did not happen, there was money to bring forward to this year's budget. Crazy went in an deleted all the balances forwarded. When I noticed it I told the club sponsors so that they can hash it out with her. She thinks it was school money budgeted for them, and if it was, then she would have a valid point at removing it. But this was money the kids earned from outside sources and should not be absorbed by the school. It was club money...not school money, even though it had been deposited into the school account. (Clubs are not allowed to actually keep their money in cash on campus or with an individual. It has to be deposited, because too much money went "missing" in the past) The way it is supposed to work then is that when the club spends the money to have their party or whatnot, someone would pay for it and then get reimbursed through a check request and the money would come out of their budget. But now hundreds of dollars have been wiped off the budgets. The Math Club alone lost nearly $600.00!

Fascinating! Thank you so much for the great update. Your school has to be at the top of the heap for the "Most effed up place to work" award.

You are such a great person to handle the transcripts for your former students. I am also really happy you notified the clubs. That is flat out stealing of their funds.

I don't know how this school is still in business! Exactly and I don't know who would send their kid to such a poorly run school, especially since they are paying for it. The incompetence must run throughout if it starts at the top.

Ummmm....no......the incompetence stops with "crazy"....The school staff and the rest of the administration is actually all very competent, dedicated and caring...and, like I, work around "crazy" in whatever way is necessary to provide the best for the students. I don't know...maybe that makes all of us a little crazy as well.

Its been so quiet at school so far this year but Crazy struck yesterday. Each morning as the kids are dropped off in carpool they have their temperature taken and checked that they have their mask as they walk in the door. Of course there are always one or two students who forgot their mask...and with it being a moving carpool, mom has now driven off. So we have those blue generic masks and supply the kid with one of those. Yesterday the carpool lady informed crazy that we were running low on those masks and would need more soon. Crazy wanted to know what happened to all of them? Who is using them? Why? Um..... So she went around the campus to check room by room to see who was wearing the blue masks. She had to be told that just because a kid has one of the blue masks does not mean we gave it to them. They are very common masks! A lot of people buy them and use them! Duh! The kicker is...these masks were supplied by the state! For free! They were to be used! I guess crazy just wants to have them....but not use them....because apparently she was not expecting to have to replace them. So we shall see how long it takes to get more masks in (hopefully not as long as it took to get the batteries). We also need bandaids...asked for those last week.
Apparently last week there was a big argument in the admin. meeting about the printer. To get to the printer room you have to go through Crazy's office. She does not want people walking through her office now, which is understandable, so she keeps her door locked when she is not in the office. If she is there and hears something printing she will grab it off the printer and set it on the counter right inside her office door. But if she is not in the office...and the door is locked...it means the majority of the staff cannot grab their stuff off the printer or go in to use it. It was suggested that we move the printer to a more accessible location so everyone would not have to walk through her office but she is against that. She is convinced that if the printer were more available everyone would take advantage of printing off stuff that is not school related. Its a control issue. So we have a printer that the teachers cannot get to unless Crazy is in her office, or they have to hunt down someone who has a master key to let them in. Such a pain...(luckily I have a key...lol)

This woman never fails. Hunting down the students with blue disposable masks? That the state provided? What a waste of her time, what exactly did she think she was going to do with that information? Even if she could differentiate from the students why use their own blue disposable masks?
And the printer issue is so stupid. I can’t believe you have to put to with that.

She says the money is still "there"....but that the new accountants made her remove it from the budgets? Some dumb-ass made up excuse to appease us is my guess. I told the gal who checks in the carpool kids that maybe she could spend that money on more masks.... but yeah...it just vanished like it did not exist.

So I just went to go use the printer...the one she insists on keeping in the room attached to her office. It won't respond to pressing any buttons or touches to the touchscreen. She insists that anyone who uses it wipe it down afterwards with disinfecting wipes, which common sense would tell you is not a good thing for touchscreens and buttons, but whatever... I would have just plopped a bottle of hand sanitizer next to it and said "Use this before and after you touch the printer" but no....she wants it wiped down with a wet wipe. I think we killed it...lol... We lease the printer and she wants to be the one to call in the repair request. I can't wait for them to tell her that she messed it up with all the wet wipes she made us use on it and I really hope that that sort of damage is not covered in our agreement...lol Except then we may not have a printer

Well, the copier guy has to order parts to fix the copier. I don't know what he was told in regards to the disinfecting process... Crazy likes to be in charge of all the "supplies". So we are out of bandaids still---been asking for those for about three weeks, she keeps the copy paper hidden somewhere so if the machine runs out there is not another ream nearby to refill it and you have to ask her for more (don't know what happens if she is not there...), and now we are out of the big trash bags for the large trash containers in the cafeteria where everyone dumps their lunch trash.
