I mean, it's just intellectually lazy. "Why can't they have a backup plan?" Let me ask, how many parents do you think would have a backup plan for immediate AND long term child care if they suddenly were going to be incapacitated/missing for days to months (or possibly forever)? If you were "disappeared" in the middle of the day tomorrow with NO way to communicate to anyone, no phone call, (not you jeremysgirl , the general you) what would happen to your pets? Your children? Your home? Your bills? Your car? Your job? I don't have that backup plan. I mean, at some point my parents would go looking for me and go to my house, but I bet it would be a couple of days. We don't talk every day. If it was a weekend, my job wouldn't look for me. But suddenly these undocumented workers (likely underpaid and with limited resources) are supposed to have some magical backup plan. Fuck 100% of the way off with that. Any parent with a serious illness and knows they have the potential to become incapacitated even temporarily has a backup plan. To pretend that you must be financially stable to have that conversation with someone and it's a magical idea is intellectually lazy. But these people are not ill. And not all I’ll have a back up plan. It’s not at all being lazy to say that the financially can provide a better means for emergencies is just a fact. Privilege of finances, education, better home life, and family dynamic have more opportunity to plan out the future. Whereas, just trying to survive day to day does not. Go even further here, many of these people who were taken are on limited incomes, don’t have extended family, and keep to themselves. They quite possibly live in a state of fear and don’t naturally trust given what they are subjected to (i mean look at what many went through in these work environments/-being harassed, demeaned, treated like shit). They are in survival mode, doing what they can do survive to the next day. They are literally being snatched away—plucked from the community that they know without any notice. And as a result the children are left stranded, ICE has/had absolutely NO plan on what to do with these kids. It fell to anyone—even strangers to care for these children, physically and emotionally.

If you expect immigrants to “do it the right way,” maybe you should at least know what that is. ^^^ and maybe at the VERY least you should know that what you're saying when you say 'just do it the *right* way' is practically IMPOSSIBLE to do. Because out country's current immigration system does not ALLOW for it.

What’s also missing from this convo is the employers.
They KNOW they are hiring workers who might not be properly documented, they don’t get any of the responsibility placed on them, there are no consequences, and if there ya, it’s a very small fine (compared to the $3 BILLION that Koch Industries are worth the fines are like pennies).
They don’t give a shit about what happens to their workers, the same who provide a very valuable service to them. The employer just posts a job fair hiring a day later.
The community’s are hurt by these raids in the way of rents, shopping, schools.

I’m not sure if you’re saying there’s a connection or not, but to be clear, Koch Foods that was the subject of ICE raids is NOT related to the Koch brothers.

I can imagine an elementary school.. we all have to fill out emergency cards with an emergency number on it. you don't have extended family here.. so maybe you put down a close friend.. who is also an undocumented person. so they do a raid and you are arrested, and your emergency back up arrested and all your friends are arrested.. there goes the safety of our us born kids.. traumatized for life.

The whole town suffers. Workers earn money, workers spend the same money at local businesses...
ETA: Former ICE boss refused to address the employers responsibility. He said they were only interested in criminal activity. Ok, who were participating in criminal activity? The workers? Yes as in being here, and arrested 680. Employers? ZERO arrests!!
