My friend just had her 7th! baby. I will be bringing her family food this weekend. What are your favorite things to bring in this situation? I would like to bring items for a make yourself lunch as well stuff already prepared for dinner and dessert. I am not the best cook but I can follow a recipe.

Lasagna, salad, and rolls, plus fruit for dessert. Lasagna is easy to warm up, so leftovers work well. Although it sounds like she won’t be dealing with many leftovers LOL!

Breakfast. We got lots of lovely casseroles and dinners, but I most appreciated the breakfast food that were brought. If you have been up all night and still have to manage 6 other children in the morning, a good quick protein meal might be especially appreciated. I also really appreciated when the meal that was brought came with some fruits and/or veggies as a side. I always appreciate produce that I don’t have to clean and prep! Another suggestion is to assemble a freezer meal in addition to whatever you take for that day. That could also be a lifesaver down the road when the meals stop and she has had a rough day, sick kids, etc.

I have posted this disgusting dish before.
A bag of penne pasta....it has to be penne. Ajar of ragu. Yes ragu A brick of velveeta.
Add ground burger if you want.
Cook the pasta to just done, put in a disposable pan Add the ragu and meat( cook the meat before adding) Mix Cube the velveeta. Mix it in ... ( cover at this point to take over to your friend) Bake until hot. Don’t mix the cheese up....you want those bits of disgusting blobs
My family doesn’t even bother with plates, they just fight over the pan like rabid pigs. I swear they just stick the faces in pan and inhale.

Quiche.
Can be warmed for breakfast, lunch, dinner.
It can be sliced then frozen for individual portions.
Easy to make and you can literally make 4 of them in under 2 hrs and for about $25 bucks.
4 Pie crusts 2 dozen eggs 1 qt half n half 3 cups shredded cheese
Then if you’re making 4 different varieties just hit up the salad bar for small amounts of ham, bacon, onions, green pepper, broccoli, spinach, etc. or use leftovers from home. We just sautéed up the combination of what is going into each quiche (spinach and bacon for example).
Most people love it! Even guys 😉

When we had a family emergency, a kind neighbor brought over a deli platter (sliced meats and cheese) complete with sandwich rolls. It was GREAT. Nobody had time or energy to cook or shop for groceries, and we certainly were not assembling for Big Family Meals, so having sandwich fixin's handy was perfect. If your friend's older children are old enough to make sandwiches for themselves and their younger sibs, that might be a good option.

I was going to suggest rotisserie chicken and sides but I have no idea how many chickens to get for a family of 8 (my math's not wrong, I'm not counting the newborn ).

Gift cards for take out.
Everyone who is going to bring food will bring it now. So after that all runs out they can pick up food on those days that totally get overwhelming.

That could also be a lifesaver down the road when the meals stop and she has had a rough day, sick kids, etc. My friend had maybe 30 meals made for her last year. They had a big sign up at work and she has lots of family. I would say a majority of them were noodle based with a salad. They couldn't eat the salads fast enough and much was wasted. I often make sausage burritos and just make an extra dozen or so. They freeze easily, last for at least a month and are thawed easily.

Feeding 6 kids I would do a bakery basket, for breakfast. Nobody needs help with a croissant or a fritter. Grab and Go!

Do you have a food prep service like Let's Dish locally? I have often stopped by to pick up a couple frozen meals with sides. They are easy enough for a 12 year old to prepare, usually just heating up.
I also was going to suggest a gift card for take out for later.

I have brought mini meatloaves, pasta dishes, and veggie sides.
One good option is also a Grubhub (or other food delivery) gift card, especially if your friend isn’t close by. Then they can just order whatever they want on the days they need it.

i have heard of a family who got a hot dogs and fixins platter. i have made baked potato pizza. i tend to stay away from the usual lasagne and the like. what is your specialty. make that.
the breakfast basket sounds like a nice idea too.

The crossiant sandwiches from Costco are always a hit! They are huge so they can cut them in half and grab and go. Anything they don’t really have to do to much. I would say no to lasagna. It’s a standard meal that I’m sure they will get plenty of.
Another thought...my sister had a baby recently and we have her gift cards so they can order food whenever they don’t feel like cooking.

I love the idea of a bakery basket or a deli platter. Easy grab and go. Or maybe a fruit basket with a gift card for a restaurant.

I think the lunch stuff is a great idea. Honestly, I would go with a gift card for pizza or something like that to go with it and maybe homemade dessert. After my first was born, my family came over with pizza and we ate those leftovers for breakfast, lunch and dinner because it required no prep, no need to sit at a table, and contains protein and some vital nutrients
