I have mine in a giant Tupperware box in the basement. I am holding off on getting it professionally cleaned and sealed because I want to photography my youngest daughter in it when she is a little bit bigger. I did that with my oldest daughter and they are some of my favorite phots I have taken. Also, having those photos will help me resist the urge to get them to wear it if they ever get married someday.

I wore my wedding dress last month to a voodoo ball in San Antonio, Texas. I wore it over 30 years ago to an event at the same location. Here are photos from each event. I had weight loss surgery and that is why I could wear it. The only thing is my waist is still about 2 inches bigger so I pinned it. I took the dress in my suitcase and had to borrow a hoop that wasn't quite big enough to bear the weight of the dress. But I won the costume contest anyway! I had my grandmother's 1933 dress framed about 30 years ago. Cost a fortune. It hangs in my stairwell so it's not exposed to as much light. As for bridesmaid dresses, my sister wore a pink dress in someone's wedding. We reworked it so she could wear it in mine. Then I borrowed it to wear in a friend's wedding. That dress got 3 weddings out of it and it wasn't that great. The bridesmaid dress I wore in my sister's wedding I had for awhile and wore it because it was a classic black dress. I lent it to someone who never returned it. At my sister's reception I had to take it off and give it to her to take on her honeymoon cruise.

I still have my dress and my bouquet (silk yellow roses) from 1977! Mom had the dress and veil cleaned and boxed and I have spent the last 42 years moving it (18 times). I’ve got too much effort in it at this point to get rid of it!😂.
After mom passed, I brought her wedding gown and veil home with me. It was made by my grandmother in a classic 50’s style. Grandma was an excellent seamstress. You should see all the tiny hand covered buttons down the back. It’s too fragile to wear but DD loves it.
If/when DD gets married, I’d love to do a photo shoot of the 3 generations of wedding gowns.

No, my DH accidentally threw the box out when we moved this last time! My Mom took my sisters original wedding gown and made the christening dress for her two daughters. It was beautiful. I was hoping to borrow it when I got pregnant but we had a boy and well, we thought a little suit was a better idea at the time.

I wanted to cut my wedding dress up to make baptismal gowns for my daughters when they were baptized as infants. Mom had a hissy fit "but we paid so much for that dress" and "someday your daughters will want to wear it"... so I threw the thing back in the closet.
Fast forward 20+ years and neither daughter was even remotely interested in wearing my wedding dress and rightfully so. We had some laughs and great pictures as they tried it on and modeled it in all of it's 1987 glory!
I stuck it back in the closet where it's waiting for grandbabies. I'm going to cut that sucker up for baptismal gowns someday!
My sister, who went through a horrible divorce and just wanted to get rid of her wedding dress donated it to someplace that makes gowns for infants to wear to heaven.

My SIL makes christening gowns. She uses a lot of lace. I was married in the 80's and that puffy skirt provided my SIL with a lot of lace.

I also have my wedding dress in a preservation box. I've recently been really debating donating it (like for the Angel group or something, it's way out of style as a dress). DD couldn't even fit into my prom dress when she was 7 because she's built on a larger frame than I am and her shoulders wouldn't fit! I'm actually taking several old formals to the middle school theatre group tomorrow (after asking them) and I'm so happy that they can be put to use.

I made Barbie doll wedding dresses out of it....lots of them. there's a few pieces of the fabric left. My mom made it. I don't think my mom knew I cut it up...my bff wore it, too.

I do not remember what I did with my wedding dress. I tried to sell it a while back. I am pretty sure it was donated but cannot remember where to.
I have been in three weddings. Two of the dresses are long gone in some of the early moves we made. The third one is in my basement from a few years ago. I am going to donate it to a charity this spring.
Of those dresses, there is only one I kind of wish I still had. It was a pretty deep burgundy color and simple enough I could have had it hemmed and turned into a tea length dress.

No, I borrowed my wedding dress. I was only a bridesmaid in two weddings. They weren't ugly (at the time). I wore them to church quite a few times before I couldn't fit in them anymore. I've never been attached to clothes sentimentally. I didn't keep any formal dresses.

My dress is preserved. Somehow I don't think my daughter will want to wear a wedding dress w/ puffy sleeves and a gigantic bow on the butt, so maybe someday it will be used to make Christening gowns.

Yep - still have mine. 25 years. In a tub under my bed. About 10 years ago I wanted to donate it to an organization that made dresses for NICU babies that passed. But they were overloaded with dresses and weren't accepting any more. I would love someone to cut it up and use it in whatever way makes sense. Until then, it sits under my bed.

Oh, about this being “preserved”... mine was, and when I finally decided to open the box I found that it was basically just wrapped in some tissue paper and double boxed. It did look as good as new, but for some reason I thought it would have been sealed or air tight or something.

I have mine, in a dress bag so not properly archived. I also have my MIL and SIL's wedding dresses in dress bags hanging in my closet, somehow I've become the keeper of the dresses. lol

I am very sentimental, and would have loved to have worn my mother's wedding dress, but she got married during WW11 in her military uniform!
I still have my wedding dress from 1976. It was very simple for that time period, no lace, no beads, just silk chiffon mostly cut on the bias. It was an off the rack dress that I completely remade. Leftover pieces (plus tatted lace made by my grandmother) made my DD's christening dress.
My DD wanted to wear it for her wedding but it was too small in the waist and way too short. There was no way to remake for her. But she found something with very similar lines from J Crew and wore my 128" veil that I had also made. She was actually able to sell her wedding gown on a website for more than we paid for it. Every time I threaten to get rid of mine, my DD objects. She will probably just have to pitch it when I die. But I still love the lines of the dress, and would choose it again. In fact, I knocked off a similar dress to wear at her wedding.
Most of my bridesmaid dresses were dumped into the dress up box for my daughter. One in particular, a red satin, puffed sleeved, tiered skirt with hoops went into the box the night of the wedding. Nothing like red satin in July, right?

I rented my wedding dress. Neat tradition at the bridal shop...they named new dresses after the first bride to wear them. There is a tulle skirted off the shoulder dress named after me - of course that was 1995 so I’m sure it’s been gone for ages. I’m not sentimental about stuff. Pictures are all I need.

Mine is hanging in the closet, it was never "heirloomed." I used to think my kids could play with it, but I must have forgotten about it when they were little. It's out of style and too small for my girls.

About 10 years ago I wanted to donate it to an organization that made dresses for NICU babies that passed. But they were overloaded with dresses and weren't accepting any more. We had a thread on dress donation long ago - probably on the original message board and I had the same frustration that the organization was not accepting them at that time. So my dress from my first wedding in 1985 still hangs in my basement. I did wear it once years ago to a Bunco game night where we were all to wear old bridesmaid dresses. I've never been a bridesmaid so I whipped out the old wedding gown. I did had to pin the upper back. Now with having gotten a divorce, I'd never wear it again even 'just for fun.' I did think maybe I'd make ring bearer's pillows for each of my boys' weddings. But the oldest got married last fall and they elected to not have a ring bearer. The second son is getting married this fall and they are tying the rings to their dog's collar and he will bring them down the aisle. So I guess the pillow idea will probably never materialize. I think I'll just add that dress to the pile the next time I take donations to the Hospice thrift store. My dress from my second wedding hangs in my closet. It is a knee length Ann Taylor sheath dress. I have worn it since the wedding for anniversary dinners and to a fancy cocktail party once. It's basically just a classic creamy white all-over cotton lace fitted sheath.

Just a couple of months ago, I tore mine apart. I saved the lace in case I came up with some good crafty idea to use it with.. but I doubt that will even happen. DD is even getting married next year and I didn't even think about maybe using the lace somehow. That's how good I am.. HAHA.. I don't regret it one bit. No one wants an early 90s dress with HUGE sleeves and bows... I bet there could be a way to incorporate the lace into the dress( like maybe a picket in the lining) or the florist could incorporate the lace into her bouquet. That would be special.

I wore my mom's wedding dress. It was a simple, elegant style. It had darkened over the years into a beautiful, soft ivory color - my mom was disappointed at first (it was snow white when she wore it), but then we both realized the softer color was very flattering on me. It "read" white in the pictures. The dress is in her bedroom closet somewhere. I don't know if DD/DDIL will want to wear it or not. The lady who did the alterations for me said she didn't think it would survive another round of alterations, but we're saving it anyway.

I have my wedding dress and intended on making a tablecloth for DD's sweetheart table at her wedding last month, but didn't get to it. So I am going to send it off to a group that makes gowns for babies that have passed.

Oh hell no. I dumped my wedding dress right after the wedding. It was a basic, knee length, long sleeved white sheath dress. The only reason I wore it was to shut my mother up. I wanted to wear my Levis as we got married in Vegas but my mother threw a fit and said she'd be embarrassed if I didn't wear a dress. I could have cared less about a wedding, I just wanted to be married to my husband.

We eloped. I wore an organza watercolor floral empire waist tank dress. It was 2004. The dress is still in my closet and I think it probably still fits me. My Dd is only 8 and is supposed to be much smaller than me. I’m 5’7” and 150 lb. she’s predicted to be 5’2” and currently weighs 43 lbs. My dress will never fit her.
My mom still has her GORGEOUS dress and I think it will fit my DD when she’s old enough to get married. I hope she chooses to wear it. It’s from 1969. This Friday will by my parents 50th anniversary!
I have 2 bridesmaids dresses. One is an awesome late 80’s PEACH lace number. I’m sure my parents still have it. Ugh! The other is a dark green simple sheath that my mom made. I think I wore it one more time. It’s totally wearable, just no place to wear it.
My mom made all my formals. I still have them all at their house. At 45, I should probably have them at my own house.

My dress is in a box in my ex-husband’s garage 😂 we were married in 1996 and my original intention was to make christening gowns for our kids from it. My mom had a fit because she paid to have it preserved (without asking me). Now she has passed so I’m sure my future grandkids will get gowns out of it instead. I don’t imagine either of my girls wanting to wear it, I don’t think it’s their style.

I would like to donate mine to Angel Gowns. There was a chapter or whatever in my area and they weren’t taking new ones last time I checked, but that was a few years ago.
Mil made both my SILs’ dresses. She saved their big Velvet and Chrissy dolls and quite a few years ago, made doll sized replicas for Christmas and put them on their dolls. So special.

I have my wedding dress from my first marriage 32 years ago! It is raw silk and is perfectly intact but has gone very yellow! Of course I still have my wedding dress from my second marriage this year! It’s still in the bag that I bought it back from the venue in. I really want to try it on again but as it’s corsetted I need help getting it on!

I borrowed my dress. I was a bridesmaid twice. One dress I donated because I would never wear again. One was a lovely silk tea length that I wore for special occasions until a friend borrowed it and returned it in bad shape.
This thread made me smile and laugh out loud several times
