My mother is making homemade buns for me today so I'm going to pick up fried chicken and a salad when I go to pick them up. I can't wait to have homemade buns in my freezer, they're so handy to have. Not to mention yummy! what's for dinner at your house tonight?

We had roast chicken too and tomorrow we'll have what's left in a risotto then, if I have time the carcass will make stock or soup.

except for the broccoli that sounds awesome. Of course it is 50 degrees and windy with a little rain, so different weather

lucyg - I've never seen that recipe, or anything like it I don't think but I might have a go at it. I'll have to find an alternative to the soup....I don't think I've ever seen that here but I'm sure a UK pea will set me straight if it's readily available Do you think it'd work if I just added some grated cheese instead?

Was just going to ask lucyg the same thing Gar. I've searched and found a reply from Campbells on their Facebook page confirming they don't sell the Cheddar cheese soup in the UK. People were asking about it because of wanting to try US recipes! Amazon UK seem to sell it but only by the pack of 24 but it's not currently available!! Someone suggested the following as a substitute for the soup: 3 tablespoons butter 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 cup milk 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese salt, to taste Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat; add flour and whisk until smooth and bubbly. Remove from heat; gradually add milk, whisking to keep smooth. Return to heat and bring to a gentle boil, whisking constantly until thickened. Add cheese and stir until melted. Add salt.

gar, yeah, I was going to say what BarbaraUK posted ... just make a white sauce and melt cheese into it for basically the same thing (only, I'm sure, better). Also someone in the recipe comments said for a gluten-free version of cheddar cheese soup, to use nacho cheese sauce instead (which you probably don't have, either, but just in case). freecharlie, I'm sure you could substitute a different vegetable of your choice. I was thinking about using zucchini instead, since we had broccoli last night ... but I'm the only one who loves zucchini. I'm sure the rest of them would rather have broccoli two nights in a row.

When DH is away, I rarely feel like cooking so it will be a fend for yourself fight over the leftover Thai food. Losers get homemade chicken noodle soup or whatever else they find in the fridge.

I didn't exactly follow the recipe ... left out the green pepper because I didn't have any, added a few other things including chicken stock because it was way too thick and creamy for my taste otherwise. I think next time I might throw some chopped spinach in, too. It needed more green, at least if you don't serve a salad with it. Everyone liked it (after the 5yo got over deciding he didn't like it based on looks). hah

late checking in here. We went to our favorite comfort food restaurant. I had chicken piccada with steamed veggies and spaetzle. DH had his usual Caesar salad and spaghetti Bolognese with garlic bread. Came home to watch the heartbreaker of the Giants game. we almost had it.

I've made a note of it, with cheese sauce substitute, and will get around to trying it when it gets a bit colder here I think! Glad you all enjoyed yours
