jenjie got me thinking how I’ve been extremely fortunate never to have been pulled over. Of course, I’ve probably just jinxed myself. 😬 Have you ever been pulled over? If so, for what?

Three times. Once for speeding when I was 18. Once for failing to stop at a stop sign, at an intersection that didn’t even have a stop sign, so that was thrown out in court, and once for expired tags. Not too bad for 30+ years of driving, especially since only 2 were true violations.

Numerous times, once for running a red light, a couple of times for speeding, and once because the police officer thought my plates had expired but they hadn’t. I’ve only been ticketed once for speeding, I confessed, yes, I was speeding and I had no idea how fast I was going. The officer cut me a break and only ticketed me for ten over. When I ran the red light, it was slippery out. I explained to the officer that there was a school bus at the red light starting to take off so I hit the gas to avoid hitting the bus. I knew I couldn’t stop in time and I felt like it would be better for the bus to hit me than for me to sideswipe a school bus full of children. He understood and complimented me for my quick thinking, then scolded me for going to fast for the conditions.

Yes
Once when I was 16 for supposedly passing a school bus. I didn’t do it. I pleaded not guilty and had a full jury trial (my dad’s a lawyer). I was found not guilty.
Once for changing lanes too close to intersection...flirted way out of ticket.
Once for not having a front license plate. It wasn’t my car and I didn’t know it was missing. I didn’t get a ticket.
So, I’ve never had a ticket.

Three times:
1) expired plate stickers. The DMV never got updated with my new married last name and I had a kid 9 months later so I never noticed that had expired. 2) speeding (10 over) in a speed trap - with all my kids in the car, on Mother's Day 3) not pulling over into the left lane on the freeway to pass a police vehicle with its lights on - I didn't even know this was a thing in Utah. Now it is law in CA as well so I always do it

Not in a car but years and years ago three plain clothes officers stopped me while enroute to the tube station at early o clock.
It was clear they had followed me in a car from my flat and were very interested in my neighbours in the flat below me. I hardly knew them but was aware they had just come back from Amsterdam so...
Told them they had definitely woken me up as I had been walking on auto up to that point.

jenjie got me thinking how I’ve been extremely fortunate never to have been pulled over. Of course, I’ve probably just jinxed myself. 😬 Have you ever been pulled over? If so, for what? Lets see... First time was in 1976 for a driver's license check. Very small farming town where the one police officer knew the driver testing guy hadn't been in town that month and he also knew I had been driving with a permit but my dad wasn't with me. I didn't have a license but he let me go after we talked about why one of my parents wasn't with me. 1978 got pulled over for a burned out headlight. But I had proof my car had been inspected the day before when both headlights worked. He let me go with a promise to get it fixed the next business day. 1993 pulled over in Italy for driving on the wrong day. This was before many cars in Italy had catalitic converters, They were trying to cut down on pollution so cars could only drive on dates correlating to their tag number. Tags ending in an odd number could drive on odd dates. Tags ending in even number could drive on even dates. No ticket since my car papers showed I did have a converter on it. 2007 got stopped for evading a sobriety check point. The police officer was clearly disappointed to find the driver was a bun wearing gray haired granny woman. I had just moved to town the day before and was lost. I knew if I went through the check point I'd just be turning around to go back through it. 2009 got pulled over for going too fast in a construction lane. So did about 10 other people. He wanted to know how fast I was going. 60. How did I know for sure? I had my cruise set. When it went from 75 to 60 I reset my cruise and had been watching for it to slow down more but never saw the sign. Traffic was heavy and I was afraid of being rear-ended if I went slower. He gave me a warning and let me go on. 2012 got stopped for driving with an expired paper tag. I pulled the actual tag out of the door pocket so show I had it. I just kept forgetting to buy a screw driver to mount it. He mounted if for me. Then about 3 weeks ago I got pulled over for driving without my lights on. The main throughfare is town is very bright. My car has automatic headlights but since it was new I had managed to turn them off at some point. Old habit from my previous car that didn't have auto lights. No ticket. Just a safety lecture.

Three times. Once for speeding when I was going five miles too fast in a residential area, got a ticket for $110. Ouch. Second time I was on my way back to work and was going a little too fast, just got a warning that time. The last time was 11 years ago and I was driving home after working all day painting a storefront. It was late, there were no streetlights on the highway because they were all being replaced, I had a massive sinus infection and was tired so I was kind of distracted by the lack of lights to realize I was going too fast. The highway patrol gave me a ticket because the cab card for my insurance had recently expired (like, the week prior) and the new one was still sitting on my kitchen counter. Went to court with the current insurance card and the ticket was taken off. These days I almost never go more than 5 miles over the limit which sometimes drives DH nuts.

Once for speeding, the officer said I was going 80 in a vw bug. I wasn't, while they might go that fast, it'd be shaking and falling apart. Once for going 65 in a 55, and once for expired tags, I couldn't get the car to pass smog the first time and didn't have the money, or didn't want to spend the money, to get it to pass.

Three times, the last was over 20 years ago. 1) Rolled through a red light when turning right, just a warning. 2) Speeding on a highway, I think it was at least 15mph over...oops... 3) Can't remember why I got pulled over for the last time, maybe speeding on a highway again? But I wasn't ticketed for anything, but I did have expired plates or insurance at the time. Once I got the current papers from my mom I just had to find a police officer to sign off on it...and of course this was all in the last two weeks of college, right before getting married and moving halfway across the country!

Once and he was very nice to do so. He wanted to let me know that one of my brake lights wasn't working in case I wasn't aware of it I wasn't so I was grateful to him really. He just got back into his car and drove off.

3) not pulling over into the left lane on the freeway to pass a police vehicle with its lights on - I didn't even know this was a thing in Utah. Now it is law in CA as well so I always do it I know you have to pull right, but didn't know to pull left? I mean it makes sense to do whatever you can to let emergency vehicles pass, but I haven't heard anything about it being a law to pull left.

You are supposed to pull into the left lane to pass in case a police officer or emergency worker is out of his/her car and helping someone. I found this explanation: SB 193 requires drivers nearing a stopped emergency vehicle that has lights activated, unless otherwise directed by a law enforcement officer, to: Vacate the lane closest to the emergency vehicle, if the highway has two or more lanes traveling the direction of the emergency vehicle; or Slow to a speed not more than 20 miles per hour (mph) less than the posted speed limit when the posted speed limit is 25 mph or more; or Slow to a speed not more than five mph when the posted speed limit is less than 25 mph. A violation is a punishable by a maximum fine of $200. If the violation results in property damage, the maximum fine increases to $500. If the violation results in bodily injury, the offense is enhanced to a Class B misdemeanor.

In 28 years of driving, twice for speeding, once for having a headlight out. No tickets. The last time was when I was dating DH, and we have been married for 16 years, so I might be due...

Pulled over 3 times and no tickets. Once for speeding - worked with the officers wife. lol Once for a headlight - borrowed one of my parent's cars - had no clue. Once because my license plate was too dirty - drove a lot of gravel roads.

4 times. 2x for speeding but no ticket. Once because the officer thought I should have my headlights on. I was a pretty new driver and had driven to a new mall to work at a store for the day to help them out and I was early so I got back in my car to drive around a bit but didn’t turn my lights on again because it was getting light but I guess he thought I should have. No ticket- just a “reminder”.
One in a school zone. School was still in session- I knew because of my my dds went there! And I had to drive by it first to pick up my other daughter at a different school but I guess the school zone was in effect (this was like 20 years ago before the obvious flashing lights they have now- at this in this particular spot). The officer said tickets were required for this type of infraction - which is fine because I want the kids to be safe. At the time I just didn’t understand the rule for that spot and when kids weren’t even around!
ETA: I just remembered I was pulled over another time because the officer thought I was a drunk driver! That was crazy. I was coming back from volunteering that evening at church and my 7 year old was in the car. When I reached for my purse to get my license he thought I was getting a gun! It was the weirdest thing that ever happened to me. When I told him I was coming back from church he said, “sure, that’s what they al say!” I found out he pulled over someone else that has been working with me that evening and she said the same thing! Lol he said I was swerving - I don’t remember it but that road has a couple potholes and I drive it all the time so many it was just automatic to me. No ticket - because I WAS NOT drunk!

Once as a new driver through a speed trap area. Once as a college freshman in a different town going down a steep hill with bad brakes that I was actually on my way to have replaced. Those two were over 20 years ago. Then I got pulled over about 5 years ago. I had to be at work at 5am so I was driving through town at 4:45am and failed to use a turn signal. The police was hoping to catch a drink driver. Nope, just me on my way to work with no traffic and did not think I needed to signal to empty roads. No ticket that time.

I don't drive so the answer is no but it's happened twice to DH when I was in the car.
First time was on the way home from a wedding reception. There was 6 month pregnant me, DH, my best friend and her mother in the car. The police were looking for 4 male teenagers and said we appeared to answer their description.
The other time was in a forest in the Italian Alps. We were tourists, enjoying the scenery when we were stopped by police armed with HUGE guns. They didn't speak English, we didn't speak much Italian and they couldn't understand DH's documents. There was a lot of gesticulating and waving of guns by the police till eventually another officer came up, took one look at us, handed DH his documents back and waved us off.

Wow, I haven’t read all of the responses, but I feel like a criminal...hahaha. Yes, many times. Mostly speeding. But also a few because of equipment failure. I had a Mazda3 where one or the other of the headlights would go out all the time. They couldn’t figure out why. I drive home from work just after midnight, so prime time to be pulled over for a headlight out. I also typically work on New Years Eve and on many years have been pulled over for innocuous reasons, just because of the night.

So if an emergency vehicle is parked, you have to move as far left as possible? I still can't find anything about that for California. Here you have to pull over left or slow down by 20mph. Yes, lots. Most of it was ages ago and things like expired registration, broken lights, things we couldn’t afford to fix. Then nothing for a very long time, and recently there has been a rash of them. I don’t remember the last time I got an actual ticket though. I remember the first time I was pulled over I was so nervous. I was maybe 18 or 19 and it was when the buckle up law first went into effect. He told me he was giving me a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt. He probably could have clocked me for speeding, but not that. For the past 10 years (long before it was law) our vehicle didn’t move unless everyone was buckled, I don’t even pull out of the driveway without it. I explained to him he was mistaken and he argued that he saw me put it on when I passed him. No, darlin ya didn’t. He kept trying to wear me down but I wouldn’t budge. John Malcovich’s doppelgänger pulled us over super late one night because we were moving things in the bed of our truck and things weren’t securely fastened. He was awesome. As he was walking away he told us to “have a better day.” And I will never forget the officer with balls of steel. We were driving in Louisiana on the highway, 2 lanes in each direction, barely no shoulder. Traffic was speeding in general, but we were young and stupid and going about 90 in a 70, I think. We passed a police vehicle and shortly after lights come blazing up behind us. Should have heard the collective sigh of relief in the car when he passed us. But a couple of minutes later there was the officer, standing in between 2 lanes of cars whizzing last him and he points to us and motions to pull over to the side of the road where he had another vehicle stopped. Yes sir.

I’ve been pulled over 3 times. First was in Chicago for driving on the median. It was a 4 lane road with a low median leading up to the left turn lane. If I hadn’t, I would have never gotten in the left turn lane because every car does this at this type of intersection. The PO pulled over several cars & we all got tickets. The second time I got pulled over was for my license plate light being out. The PO just told me to get if fixed, no ticket. The third time was for going 40 in a 30. The PO just gave me a warning, no ticket.

"Excessive use of car horn."
Pulled over and issued my first ticket for that heinous offense when I was in college. The dean of women went with me to court. The judge (who had a legitimate reputation for drinking heavily) launched into a boozy long-winded tirade aimed at the poor young policeman. The ticket was dismissed.
Backstory is that we were leaving a college soccer game and tradition called for students to blow their horns if the team won to alert the campus. The policemen was wet-behind-the-ears and brand new to the force. He was a little overzealous. The judge really let the poor guy have it. I felt bad for him.

This includes tow trucks and Caltrans vehicles if displaying flashing amber warning lights, as well as waste service vehicles.

Too many times to remember them all. Usually for speeding, I used to have a lead foot. Not so much anymore. When I was young I could talk my way out of most of them if it was male cop. Not so much that any more either.

This includes tow trucks and Caltrans vehicles if displaying flashing amber warning lights, as well as waste service vehicles. Thank you! I found it and knew about slowing down. The lanes in my area are usually so crowded that (a)(1) hardly ever applies, but definitely good to know: Section 21809 of the California Vehicle Code: (a) A person driving a vehicle on a freeway approaching a stationary authorized emergency vehicle that is displaying emergency lights, a stationary tow truck that is displaying flashing amber warning lights, or a stationary marked Department of Transportation vehicle that is displaying flashing amber warning lights, shall approach with due caution and, before passing in a lane immediately adjacent to the authorized emergency vehicle, tow truck, or Department of Transportation vehicle, absent other direction by a peace officer, proceed to do one of the following: (1) Make a lane change into an available lane not immediately adjacent to the authorized emergency vehicle, tow truck, or Department of Transportation vehicle, with due regard for safety and traffic conditions, if practicable and not prohibited by law. (2) If the maneuver described in paragraph (1) would be unsafe or impracticable, slow to a reasonable and prudent speed that is safe for existing weather, road, and vehicular or pedestrian traffic conditions. (b) A violation of subdivision (a) is an infraction, punishable by a fine of not more than fifty dollars ($50). (c) The requirements of subdivision (a) do not apply if the stationary authorized emergency vehicle that is displaying emergency lights, the stationary tow truck that is displaying flashing amber warning lights, or the stationary marked Department of Transportation vehicle that is displaying flashing amber warning lights is not adjacent to the freeway or is separated from the freeway by a protective physical barri

I’ve been driving for almost 45 years and have had my share of speeding tickets. The last was when we were coming home from vacation and I was driving through Virginia somewhere. I’m a Southerner and I could NOT understand what the cop was saying. I kept saying to DH and DS , “What is he saying? Am I getting a ticket?”
I also got a ticket for an incomplete stop at a 4-way stop at an intersection a minute from my house.
