I'm very lucky with both MIL and FIL. FIL has health issues, so we're sort of "on call" for hospital runs at the moment. He's had 2 admissions this year. But they're on holiday abroad at the moment and apparently enjoying themselves. MIL likes things her way but I'm fairly easy-going and go with whatever they want. The only part I find very hard is sharing my birthday with her. Even if what I want is a quiet night in with DH for my birthday, we have to have a meal out with the whole family (BIL is hard work) for hers, instead. Annual endurance test. {sigh} lainey I'm really glad your extended family treat you better than some of your real family!

FIL was a sweetheart (he died in 2016). MIL not so much. I wasn’t good enough. However having my beautiful DD who is the apple of her I raised my value some🙄. Foolishly she never reflected upon the fact she has 2 boys, no daughters (and my SIL is kind of a flake) so now that she’s old and lonely she wants to play nice....sorry, I still have PTSD from dodging the criticism all these years😡. Ye reap what ye sow.

Mine are wonderful. I always hear stories about horrible ILs, or MILs, but mine truly are amazing. My MIL and I spend time shopping and crafting together, just hanging out. My FIL- as much as he drives me batty with his OCD issues, loves his family and will do anything for them, me included. They are amazing parents to DH, ILs to me, and grandparents to our son.
