I am just starting this thread to say that I have had more than X (fill in the blank) of zero responses on my thread... kind of makes me sad ... but maybe this thread will give me a boost... and how many of your threads have been a thread killer? All in Fluff.....

After taking a peek at your posting history, it appears you attempted a positive post about a Republican. Around these parts, Reps/Cons are considered more evil than Charles Manson or even Lucifer himself. Be happy you got no responses because if you had, they wouldn't have been pleasant.

I often kill threads. I tell myself it’s because of the time difference of when I’m online...most people have already commented, even though I know that’s not true. Good luck with this post!

I have experienced this as well.
I have started a thread and get very few responses. A little time passes and someone else asks the very same question/topic and they get tons of replies.
Personally, I think some replies are based on who the original poster is. Those who are more active in posting and participating, seem to get more input and participation on their threads. Just my personal observation, no big deal, I don't care about the amount of replies (or lack thereof), I just notice stuff like that.
I personally read, more than I reply. There are topics I seek out (travel, make up, skin care, what's your new favorite thing/product, etc..) and topics I avoid (Politics, games, etc..).

I personally don't pay attention to who started a thread. I will respond if I have something to contribute that hasn't been said already and if I have time to type it all out. I'm slow! I really don't consider it a popularity contest because I figure we all benefit from learning from each other no matter who started a thread. I hope you will keep starting new threads, OP!

A lot of it just comes down to timing I think. Sometimes it's time the differences, other times I will read a thread and think 'I'll go back to that and read it again when I have more time" but then I forget or 'I'm not sure how I feel about that..' so I don't respond immediately. I think it also depends on what else is currently at the top of the first page etc. So don't feel bad - I think it's probably happened to most of us

I personally read, more than I reply. And of course, if you only read but don't reply then you're doing the same thing to someone else...

I don't reply to a lot of threads purely because I don't have any knowledge of what some of them are posting about......US Television programmes: Where would I but xyz : school etc kind of threads.
I had a look at your thread history and it doesn't look too bad to me some of them have loads of replies others not so many. Something that happens to all of us over time so it's not just you.

We've all experienced various responses to us on the board. Keep posting and start whatever threads you want to. Different things resonate with different people. It's not personal. Every voice here matters.

I think it's happened to all of us. Please don't take it personally!
Sometimes I am surprised by the threads that end up being multi page.

You are going to have to start some more controversial posts. Here are some ideas:
"I never return my shopping cart to the corral, thoughts?" "Uncrustables are the best thing since sliced bread" "Who in their right mind uses washcloths" "Can you look at my torn paper sunsets and tell me what you think" "Where can I find a sexy pair of kitten heels for school drop-off" "Bringing bagged salad to a potluck?"

You mean you start threads and no one responds? Maybe its not something anyone has knowledge of or opinion about. I don't usually notice who starts a thread and I doubt it’s personal, so try not to take it that way. Asking for help or advice will almost always get you responses!

Wow that is a harsh comparison/generalization

I think since 2003 or 2004, I may have started three or four threads, which had low response rate. I am not a prolific poster, but I used to read a lot. I am quiet like that!

I generally don't pay much attention to who posts a thread, if it is a subject I'm interested in and I feel like I have something to contribute, I do. Someone has to be the last person to post on a thread, or we'd still have threads from 2003 on the first page. I've been that last poster plenty of times!

I am right there with you. I kill the threads that I post to also. I always feel bad for the Pea whose thread I am posting to while I am typing my response and always tell them sorry (in my head).

I’m pretty sure we’ve all been there in the past. I think a lot depends on how the thread is titled. For example, if a thread is titled, “Have you seen / done / tried [fill in the blank]?” If I *haven’t seen, done, tried that thing, then I have nothing to add to that conversation so I may not even open the thread. If I see that it stays on page one for a few days and has a lot of replies, then I might open it at that point just to see what all the chatter is about.
But if the thread is titled, “I just saw / did / tried [fill in the blank] and I LOVED (or hated LOL) it!” Then I might open it up to read more about that thing even if I have no personal experience with it. Maybe I have questions about that thing or never even knew it existed before that. The way a thread is titled makes a big difference in how other people will engage with the OP, regardless of who started the thread.
On another note, I think it also makes a difference what else is going on on the board when the thread is originally posted. If a fluffier thread is posted at the same time as some major news is breaking (like yesterday) and people are fired up, the fluffier thread is going to drop off page one pretty quickly as the other threads on the hot topic keep getting bumped BTT.
