What one should I get?
Backstory:
I lost nearly 20 pound in 2 weeks when brother-in-law died. ( not a good diet plan and had some bad outcomes) Stepped on a nail, ended up in the hospital for 5 days on heavy antibiotics Got food poisoning from a trucking salad Got stabbed in the shin by a glass table shattering Hit a deer Exposed to a man cold ( that is probably the flu) Probably exposed to some fungus
I went to urgent care because I bumped the wound on my leg. The doctor said with this rash of “accidents” turning bad, I should get a good probiotic. ( I should get a good life insurance policy and a new will)

Live probiotics. Kefir, raw sauerkraut, kombucha, kimchi, and yogurt are good sources of live probiotics.

A pill is easier for me. I use florajen brand. They keep it in a refrigerator in the pharmacy.

Yikes! It sounds like it has been a very rough month. I don’t have a specific probiotic to recommend, but wanted to say that I hope that you are past the slew of bad things and catch a break for a while.

That sounds terrible! I’m sorry!
I use MegaFlora and really like it. I get it at sprouts. Make sure you get a refrigerated one.

I started brewing kombucha a few months ago. It costs about $3 for a 16 ounce bottle in the grocery store, but I can make a gallon for far less than that. It's easy to do.

At the advice of our gastroenterologist, we take Align probiotics. They seem to work great for us, and sorry for all you have been through. Hugs!

When I acquired a parasite in Mexico, my doctor recommended Align.

Align as well. You need to make sure the pill you take will pass the stomach acid to get where it needs to go. You can ask your pharmacist. I get mine from Amazon.

I'm kind of surprised that non refrigerated products are so high on that list. When my son had stomach issues his doctor put him on probiotics and told us to be sure to get the kind that's refrigerated in the store. I'm almost out of the kind I get and thought about trying something else but have never even considered brands like culturelle and schiff, simply because they're not kept refrigerated.

I'm almost out of the kind I get and thought about trying something else but have never even considered brands like culturelle and schiff, simply because they're not kept refrigerated.
This might explain why:
"Many probiotic bacteria are naturally sensitive to heat and moisture. Heat can kill organisms and moisture can activate them within pills, only to die due to lack of nutrients and a proper environment. These products should ideally be refrigerated and kept out of humidity. However, probiotics with freeze-dried organisms (which includes most sold as supplements in tablet or capsule form) and in packaging to prevent moisture, such as blister packs, generally do not need refrigeration or to be kept out of humidity but should still not be exposed to heat above room temperature. They also have longer shelf-lives than products containing live cultures, such as yogurts and drinks (which must be refrigerated). Probiotic yeast and some of the spore-forming bacteria, such as Bacillus coagulans, generally do not require refrigeration."
Another:
1. Don't probiotics need to be refrigerated?
It depends. Some probiotics do require refrigeration because the bacteria will die if left at room temperature. If they can't survive room temperature, however, how can they survive the harsh acidic environment of the stomach? They can't.
It used to be commonly understood that "living bacteria" was the "best." Research has come a long way, and we now know there are certain strains, like the bacillus, that can survive the stomach and make it all the way to the intestines where they are needed most.
Unfortunately, the idea was so prevalent that many people today are still leery of an unrefrigerated probiotic. Many companies still offer refrigerated probiotics, further perpetuating the myth. However, the most important thing to look for in a quality probiotic are strains that have been tested to survive the digestive system, which means they need to survive outside the refrigerator as well.

Thank you. Since I'm in need of a new supply I think I will try one of the brands at the top of the list.

adding:
This is all on me, but I brought home a blender, because mine always end up being used to grind worms.
I poured hot simple syrup in jar and then plug the blender in.... hum should have made sure the switch was on OFF.
Yes I got hit syrup in my hair and a bit on my face.

I am not sure why a dr. would recommend a pro-biotic for your ailments? Just wondering.... all of the advertising of this one and that one and this one does that. I would think that if you don't have a GI problem, not sure how a "pro-biotic" will help. Read the ingredients on all of these pro-biotics and there's a lot of excess things that may not be beneficial. Be cautious of the label pro-biotic. I never went for the hype, but that's my opinion, in my particular case. I have no problems with GI... but many people do, so just read the labels and think about what your troubles are and if you need to change your diet. I hope you get a resolution. READ the labels! HTH.

I think that the doctor thinks it will help booster my immune system. Or get rid of the hex that is over me.
