Joshua Brown - the neighbor who testified against Amber Guyger, in favor for Botham Jean, has been shot in a drive by shooting last night. How incredibly sad. LINKWhile I hope this is not in retaliation from the trial, what are the chances?

That's is shocking and sad. I hope it's not retaliation because it may deter people from testifying.

May he rest in peace, and may his loved ones find justice.
But, what are the odds that that is coincidence?

OMGosh. I can't even imagine.
I am no conspiracy girl, I proudly wear my rose-colored glasses and take things at face value until proven otherwise. However my mind immediately wondered if his being a witness had anything to do with it :/

Before everyone jumps to conclusions and conspiracy theories....he was shot at an apartment community in a very bad part of town. Lots of crime in this neighborhood. He was not shot in Turtle Creek as is stated in the TMZ article. He was shot at an apartment community several miles from what is considered Turtle Creek. Turtle Creek was likely used as a location in the TMZ story because this is a a very affluent area of Dallas and would better lead to incorrect assumptions.
Let us get all of the information before we jump to conclusions and start believing TMZ as a reliable news source.

I heard about it before TMZ posted about it. But because WFAA hadn't released his name, I linked the TMZ article. The details about this were originally released from Botham's attorney. I dont know if its related or not as I wasn't there. ALL I originally said was 'what are the chances'. Maybe its totally random. Maybe its not. Either way, its a horrible thing to have happened.

Either way, its a horrible thing to have happened. I agree with you...it is a horrible thing. However, the details of the address do not match up with what TMZ posted. This happened in a part of Dallas that is extremely dangerous. Before people jump to conclusions let's make sure that we have all of the correct facts.

Considering the recent trial I think it is reasonable that one's mind automatically jumps to retribution for his testimony. However, that doesn't make it so and we do need to wait for the facts.

I certainly hope this wasn't a case of retribution because an officer killed a man and is paying (too light, imo) a price.

What would be the point of taking him out now? The trial is over, the verdict and sentence given.
May his family find peace and justice.

Let the conspiracy theories begin....... so you don't think his murder has anything to do with his testifying? I will be very surprised if it is related to the trial.
The case did not pivot on this man's testimony. That is why I don't think the two are related....but I could be 100% wrong.

CNN is reporting he was shot in his mouth and chest. To me - shooting someone in their mouth is not just something that people do. Thats to send a message. I thought it was a drive by. They don't typically aim This is what CNN is reporting: Witnesses told police they heard several gunshots and saw a silver four-dour sedan speed out of the parking lot, police said. The victim had no ID cards, so police couldn't identify them until the medical examiner made a positive ID and notified the next of kin, police said. There is no suspect information at this time, police said. Merritt wrote in a Facebook post Saturday night that the medical examiner told him Brown was shot in the mouth and chest. "He was ambushed at his apartment complex as he got out of his car and shot at close range," Merritt wrote, adding that Brown's mother asked him to "do whatever it takes to get to the bottom" of her son's murder. "She suspects foul play and it is difficult to rule it out," Merritt wrote. "He had no known enemies. He worked for a living. He was not in the streets. We need answers. Immediately."

When I saw his picture in court, I thought who goes to testify in court in a bright graphic tee? I read the comments under the TMZ article, sifting through the nonsense, and several people said the same thing. Someone also pointed out his neck tattoos. So based on his appearance, and that he is self-employed, I would wager to guess he runs with people that illegally have guns. So his shooting may be related to his lifestyle.
I also also found it very weird he was crying on the stand over a man he met once a year ago. I could understand being incredible sad immediately after the shooting. But to need to stop his testimony, when he’s had time to come to terms with the dead of a stranger, was a little unbelievable to me. Seemed more like he was reflecting on his own life choices. I watch a lot of dateline and people are very matter of fact when they testify because 1. They’re not talking about a close family member and 2. The trial takes place a long time after the death so they’ve had time to process. And it’s mainly women who testify who would be more likely to be emotional than a man.

From that article: He was not shot in the face.
He was shot in the foot in November by someone who was waiting for him outside a stripper bar here in Dallas. It sounds like he was a person involved in some shady dealings that caught up to him.
From the article: The Police Department confirmed Sunday afternoon that the 28-year-old Brown was the victim whom officers found about 10:30 p.m. Friday with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body.
In November, Brown was wounded in the foot in a shooting that left another man dead outside a nightclub in northwest Dallas.
According to an affidavit, a man had waited for Brown outside Dallas Cabaret and fought him when he came out. When Brown tried to leave, the man started shooting, killing Nicholas Shaq'uan Diggs, 26, and injuring Brown.

I still cry when I think of the abuse, torture and disfigurements I observed while on a "peace keeping" mission in Somalia. You can't judge what someones reaction to trauma "should be."
