It occurred to me when I commented on the thread that I’ve been seeing my periodontist for over 20 years. He’s not the longest though, I’ve had my podiatrist for 3O years. I know exactly because I had to take my youngest son to see him when he was a toddler. My family doc is a newcomer, only about 10 years for him.
So, do you switch frequently or are you a loyal patient?

Pretty much loyal until they move or I move. So it's been like 10 years with each of my current providers because that's when I last moved (and by "moved" I mean "moved to a whole new region of the state and had to switch insurance to go along with the provider options in the area," not just moving across town or something).

I’ve been with my GP's practice for 34 years. The senior partner is the only one left from when I registered, and he is the one I usually see. There’s something very comforting about that continuity and not having to explain my complicated family history.

We've moved a few times, forcing changes. It seems to take 2 tries with each move to find a dentist and doctor I like.

We are military (now retired) and have military medicine. If we don’t move every 2-3 years, our docs do.

I’m loyal to good doctors and typically don’t switch unless insurance is an issue, or we move a great distance. I liked my first endocrinologist so much I continued going to her in Austin when I moved to San Antonio. But I’m out of there in a heartbeat if I do not feel they are providing the level of service I need. And I’ve left another doctor I like who had a horrible staff and didn’t fix anything over a year’s time.

We’ve been going to the same dentist for almost 25 years I think. I’m going to be sad when he retires but we like the new guy that has joined the practice and will keep going there after he takes over.
DD and I both had to change doctors this year because we had to change plans. Before that I was with the same PA for probably 15 years, until not long after my DD was born. Then we moved and she retired so I had to find someone else anyway. Now that I’m getting older and starting to fall apart, I keep having to get new specialists for all these different things. I’ve been with the same chiropractor’s office for 5-6 years I think, I started going there after we moved here and that was seven years ago.

And I’ve left another doctor I like who had a horrible staff and didn’t fix anything over a year’s time. My dentist is fairly new maybe 3-4 years. Previously I went to an all female team, 3 dentists all together. I had gone there about 12 years. I left because I was in for a cleaning and I told the hygienist my right bottom wisdom tooth hurt and I wondered if the dentist might look at it. The dentist actually came into the room to spend several minutes telling me she wouldn’t look at it because my insurance wasn’t paying her to do so. All I wanted was an opinion on whether I should see an oral surgeon or not. It took her much longer to tell me all of that than it would have to just look and give me her opinion. When the front desk checked me out they asked if I wanted to schedule my next appointment. When I said no the gal was absolutely shocked. My periodontist recommended the dentist next door to him. He said they would do any work I needed. He’s actually a nice guy and a good dentist. Since I left the all female practice I haven’t needed hardly any work but while I was going to them I maxed out my dental insurance every year. Kind of odd.

We have Tricare so my primary changes every 3-4 years. I’ve been seeing the same dentist since we moved here, 14 years. I’ve been seeing my GYN Oncologist for almost 11 years.

My dentist, almost 60 years, sort of. Started going to this dentist when I was 5. His son became a dentist and they worked together for years. I moved on to the son when my son was little, but the dad is about 85ish years old and comes in 1 day a week and does fillings, but I haven't had him work on me for years. For a few years, I had to move to a different dentist because he wasn't on my work insurance, but as soon as I found out he was, I immediately switched back. Went though 3 dentists in that time and they were butchers compared to these two dentists that are so very gentle. My primary doctor is close to 15 years now. Before that, I hadn't seen a doctor in 20 years prior to that.
Eye doctor is about 15 years as well.

We've lived in this city for 15 years and our oldest is about to turn 14 but it took us a few tries to find providers that were a good fit. Currently we have....
Pediatrician - 6 years (not perfect but better than we had and good location) Pediatric dentist - 5 years (other wasn't bad but this one is MUCH closer and previous one is near retirement) Orthodontist - 1st year - really hoping we can stay with her through all the kids Adult dentist - 4 years (was limited by insurance for a few years and glad to be where we are now) Eye doctor - 3 years? Dh's doc - 12 years My doc - 3 years - I am really good at making doctors/CNP's/midwives move. Every time I find one I love, they move. smh

My GP-10 years. I love him but it’s about a 3 week wait to get into see him. My Gyno-About 10 years until he left his practice last year to become a laborist at a hospital. My dentist-I’m looking for a new one now as mine just left and I was not a fan of him anyway. My orthopedist-About 2 years and he’s my fave. I had knee replacement in 2017 and I think I’m doing my other knee next year. My dermatologist-About 2 years. He’s pretty awesome too.
And get this one... All of them are named Michael 🤯

We've had some bad luck with providers so most of mine are fairly recent
GP - 3 years (had to shop around to find one who actually listened to me)
paediatrician - we switched this summer after the previous was arrested for molestion
dentist - 8 years (with the practise - the dentists have changed)
eye doctor - 2 years
podiatrist - 4 years (he's the only one in town or I would switch to be honest)
all my others are out of town specialists

My GP just retired last year. I'd been seeing her for 31 years. We both cried at my last visit. I like my new doctor. I think she's about 14, LOL.
My dentist I have seen for 36 years. She had just joined the practice. We have become friends and know all about each other's families. Fortunately, I have a backup in the practice for when she retires.

only a couple of years. Most of my adult life was with the military clinics so either I moved or the doctors moved every couple of years. Plus I rarely saw the same doc twice since you got whoever had an open time slot.
I thought I had a life long doc after I moved to Oklahoma. Found a new doc just out of med school who had started a practice! But he has decided to specialize instead of stay in primary care and moved to a different part of the state so I had to find a new doc. Urg.

I've seen the same dermatologist in three different cities over a period of about 25 years. She does my 'skin mapping' every year. That woman may have seen more of my body than either husband - lol.
I also kept my gynecologist when I moved eight years ago. I've been seeing him for 24 years. I drive two-and-a-half hours each way for appointments with him because I value the relationship we have.

We’ve moved quite a bit. Our longest stint in one place is where I had the worst time finding a good dr. and our dds was a family friend, but not a great dds.
Currently I have a new dr appt set for dd at the new house. I wouldn’t have switched so soon with this move if her GP didn’t fall off the insurance.

I'm with the same GP group that I was as a child, so around 40 years. I did move away 5 years, but came back to the practice when I moved back. I'm seeing a different doctor now who's my age. He laughed the first time I came in after moving back, because when they got my chart out of storage he was thumbing through and found a copy of my college acceptance letter. The only thing that hasn't been consistent is my eye doctor. Every few years insurance changes and I have to change to a new one.

I’ve been with my GP since I was pregnant the first time in fall of 98, so 21 years. I switched to him because my previous doctor didn’t deliver babies, but he was my doctor since my birth in 1975.
I’ve been with the same eye doctor office since the late 80s. I’ve seen doctors come and go, but the main office gal was the same until she retired this year.

Other than my regular doctor and dentist, the only other medical pro I see is my optometrist. I've been going to one since Grade 4 when my vision went to crap. I've been with the current office since I was at least 14 or 15, and this specific optometrist since at least 18.
I've taken my kids to them since they were about 1 at his suggestion. Both girls have astigmatism, so they went every year. DS has no vision issues at all, so he never goes. But the girls go once a year.
We moved out of town, so he is 40 minutes away, but I still go to him. I head to that city at least once a week for work supplies, so I work my supply run around my appointments when I have them. I go every six months as I wear contacts.
But that's it!

I change providers about every 5 years, which is how often we move. There have been quite a few I hated to leave.
