We have no one hearing impaired in our house but my kids all use the CC option on the TV. I can’t use it, I find myself reading and not actually watching what is happening on the screen. I have had times I have needed it for various reasons (volume issues, heavy accents or someone speaking fast) but overall I can’t use CC.

All the time if there are accents involved or if it is an action movie. I have to turn the volume up too much to catch the dialogue on those, and then the action scenes are deafening!

Yep. Love it! Kids got us into it, and now I can't live without it.

Yep. I feel very fancy with magenta and white. I’m always changing the font. Although, I watch a lot of sports and it does not work well with it. The writing is right over the score and the clock ! I have to turn it off for sports.

It is usually too distracting for me. If it's a movie with lots of dialogue and I think I'll miss something, I use the option.

Yes. Our DS used it when he had an infant. We came home and put it on our TV. DH is very deaf, even with expensive aids. I have found that it really helps when we watch British shows because of the difference in pronunciation.
I miss it very much when we do not have access to it.

only if the accents are hard to understand. Otherwise I also find myself reading not watching and miss visual cues.

I really, really, really wish all the waiting rooms would mute the TV and use CC. The waiting experience would be much more pleasant if we were not forced to listen to noise while waiting.

Yes. I like the sound off. Not for football, though

Not always, but in some situations (music too loud, soft talking, accents, noise inside/outside the house).

Ive recently started using it. The apartments are not very sound proof and you can hear TV's from across the way. Ive been using it when I have my front door and windows open (which is a lot during the hot season as we have no AC) I find it distracting but necessary

Yes! It has to match when they are speaking though. Some shows, esp reality shows, it doesn't keep up, or live shows. We started to use it during GOTs. I use it now for Poldark, British baking show, etc.

Yes. There is nothing wrong with my hearing but I almost aways use CC. So often background music is way to loud. When watching talk shows, applause often drowns out the emcee. I also like to see how unfamiliar things to me are spelled. Not for sports, though.

Yes. Sometimes the accents are difficult for me to understand or the movie is in a foreign language.

Yes. We are not hearing impaired. Most of the time we are watching tv, we are on our iPad's. For some reason it just makes it easier to glance up at the tv to read what's going on and then back down to our devices.
ETA: we only do it for recorded shows (which is most of our watched content) and not the news. The news is live so there is a delay in the CC. Most of the time it's not even accurate so we don't like CC for that kind of show.

No, I find it annoying AF.
There are often so many grammatical errors that I can’t concentrate on anything other than getting upset about how stupid people are. Plus, the CC often covers up important info on the screen.

I use it all the time except for live events where it is delayed. I got into the habit because my dad is hard of hearing and I find I can't watch without it. I catch so much more with it on. I LOVE it!

I lost the original remote for my tv in my scrapbook room and someone turned on CC and now I can't get it off. Sound is still on, but there are also words at the bottom. There's probably a way to get it off but I can't figure it out using my Direct TV remote.

Yes, we have for years. I couldn't believe how much I had been missing when we started using it. I don't watch sports, but I do know the CC is annoyingly behind on that. But for what we watch, I would be very sad if it weren't available.

Yes!
My daughter cues me into it when we were watching Handmaid’s Tale the first season. You can find out names that are never said, read things said among background noise, etc. You definitely pick up other details that are easily missed or not otherwise available. I often just leave it on now no matter what I am watching. I rarely watch any live TV anymore and I think it helps with the accuracy (not being live)

Yep, CC is on permanently. My husband and I are both Deaf so if we don't have captions we have no idea what is being said. Our kids (all hearing) have grown up with CCs and now when they go to friends' houses, they feel like something is missing when they watch TV or movies. LOL.
I do agree about captions for sports events though. I don't care much about commentary or background info or whatever they're talking about to fill time but when there's a foul or play is stopped, I want to know why. But I do find it annoying that (on my TV at least) the captions are just below the middle of the screen so as to not cover the scoreboard or the ribbon along the bottom of the screen with other sports information. ESPN, I'm looking at you.

For those who want to turn it off--go into your settings and find the sound and cc option, set it to off.
On some TVs there is an option for where you want the CC to be--mid screen, or top or bottom....

I find it so distracting. I recently stayed with a friend who used it on every channel (including sports) and it annoyed me. I assume you get used to it after awhile?!

We have it automatically on when we watch Netflix or Prime because we watch a lot of British shows. We use it for about 50% of our network shows when there are accents or people who tend to mumble.

Never use it on our tv. I find it too distracting trying to read and watch the show at the same time. It's also the reason why I won't watch foreign movies with sub-titles. The times I've seen it in waiting rooms or my nail salon, I find that the words aren't always correct, not to mention grammar mistakes.

Every day. I’m pretty deaf even with hearing aids. It’s the only way I can watch TV, Movies, you tube, etc. sometimes it’s way off, especially on YouTube. It can be funny. It can be really annoying too when it’s not available or way off because then I don’t know what’s going on.
