literature vs. a beach read or "women's fiction/ chick lit" , good page turner of a story. Preferably not too dark. No horror.
Would love your recommendations if you have time. I'll also look at the weekly reading threads for ideas. thanks!

I get great ideas on the reading threads. I look them up on amazon to read the description to see if it's something for me. Then they also list other books that buyers also bought. I can spend so much time there and find great book ideas!
I love books by Debbie Macomber, Barbara Delinsky, Sarah Pekannan, Diana Chamberlain (The Midwive's Confession, Dream Daughter, etc., Carla Buckley (The Deepest Secret).

These two are about the same topic and both are awesome reads! The Giver of the Stars by Jojo Moyes The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michelle Richardson
If you like historical fiction (specifically WWII) I’ve also loved these two All the Flowers in Paris by Sarah Jio The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer

roundtwo - I loved The Shadow of the Wind. read it many years ago and had forgotten all about it! I really do wish I had kept a journal listing all of the books I've read over the years, as well as impressions of them. Thank you maryland. I fall down that same rabbit hole. Trying to save a bit of time right now. gitana - I think I have this on my kindle but forgot about it. Have heard great things. Thanks for the reminder! SabrinaP - thanks! I might enjoy all of these, though I'm not in the mood for WWII stories yet. I just ordered The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.

I just finished Dear Wife today. It's somewhat of a thriller and I really enjoyed it. Here's what Amazon has for the summary: Beth Murphy is on the run… For nearly a year, Beth has been planning for this day. A day some people might call any other Wednesday, but Beth prefers to see it as her new beginning—one with a new look, new name and new city. Beth has given her plan significant thought, because one small slip and her violent husband will find her. Sabine Hardison is missing… A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home from a work trip to find his wife, Sabine, is missing. Wherever she is, she’s taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have, and all signs point to foul play. As the police search for leads, the case becomes more and more convoluted. Sabine’s carefully laid plans for her future indicate trouble at home, and a husband who would be better off with her gone. The detective on the case will stop at nothing to find out what happened and bring this missing woman home. Where is Sabine? And who is Beth? The only thing that’s certain is that someone is lying and the truth won’t stay buried for long.

I just finished reading The Tuscan Child by Rhys Bowen. It was pretty good and a quick read—historical fiction with a romantic ending. I’ve been rereading the entire In Death series, so a bit of light fluff was nice. I read it for book club, so didn’t choose it myself.

I second A Gentleman In Moscow, this is my favorite book of the year. The Baker's Secret, don't remember the author's name, but takes place during WW2. I also loved The Little Paris Bookshop and The Little French Bistro, both by Nina George. Enjoy your trip!

I also really enjoyed A Gentleman in Moscow. I’m reading The Grammarians right now which is very good. I highly recommend the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny. Each book is a great mystery with outstanding writing & great character development.

I was going to recommend The Great Alone, so glad to see you got that one.
Also, Ann Patchett with her in depth stories: Commonwealth or Bel Canto

Thanks to everyone! I'm going to keep this list for future reference as well, but I managed to order 8 or so books on Amazon last night. I LOVE my Kindle Paperwhite. I remember flying with multiple books in the olden days...

I started Gentleman in Moscow and really enjoyed the writing but couldn't get into it or finish it. I thought Rules of Civility (same author) on the other hand was excellent. I do still mean to go back and read Gentleman in Moscow...

Could not finish the Gentleman in Moscow very rare that happens to me. Half of Book Club had the same issue, other half loved it. I’m having this problem with Where the Crawdads Sing. Everyone raves over this one and I’m not sure I will finish it. So unrealistic to me...

I’m only half way through but I’m loving the writing style of Donna Tartt in The Goldfinch. Have you red The Secret History by Donna Tartt? I believe it was her first book, and it's one of my favorite books of all time. It's like a murder mystery, but told in a different way than usual. It's beautifully written and structured.
