Aldi has just opened in our neighborhood and other than people sharing the love for it on Nextdoor, others are ranting about the S being added.

The S thing doesn't bother me one bit.. In fact, I am going to add S all the time now.. heehee.. Drives my DD nuts. I don't say THE Home Depot.. But my dad will say Home DePOT (as in a coffee POT).. OYE... We always say “Ho Dee Dough”. For Home Depot because that’s what our toddler yelled out from the back seat as we drove past one.

Saying "Aldi's" just sounds better to me because it's someone's name. So you'd say you were going over to 'his' place. Aldi's. <ed> okay it's not their actual name but still. Albrecht's family's store. and now I give up because I'm not sure about my grammar at all

I say "I'm going to Home depot". We don't have an Aldi anywhere nearby and I don't often hear anyone adding random s sounds to the end of store names. Maybe this is a regional thing?

Walgreens KNOWS!! It just usually sounds better with an S.. Off to Chipoltes... Bah! I was on board with dealing with all the adding of the S, but you just took it to a new level of nope! hahahahaha! Because of the ‘s’ or because of the way that many people say Chipolte instead of Chipotle? 🤣

I don't have an Aldi store, at least not until very recently (and I still haven't been yet)...so I always thought it WAS "Aldi's", like it's "Trader Joe's" (owned by the same company so similar names).
And I always say "Home Depot" even though the correct name of the company is "The Home Depot". lol

I hate when people say Aldi’s. I’m not seeing the connection between that and saying The Home Depot vs Home Depot.

This is probably related to people adding 's to surnames. There's a meme going around on social media correcting the 's use on Christmas cards.
You are not the Doe's. You are the Does.
People (in general) are sloppy about spelling, pronunciation, and grammar.

In other news, did you guys know that Walgreens used to be Walgreen, but they changed it? Walgreens KNOWS!! It just usually sounds better with an S.. Off to Chipoltes... We always call it Chi-pote-lays. Our second favorite lay!

I say Home Depot. My 11 year old insists on saying THE Home Depot because "that's what their commercial says!"
We do not have an Aldi here in NY.

We don’t have an Aldi, so I can’t say “Aldi’s”. But I totally would. Because I say “Meijers” every single time I mention Meijer. Which is surprisingly often. 😂
I do not say THE Home Depot though. It’s just Home Depot. No need to make it fancy with a “The” added in. 😄

my mom calls it "the depot" - she's so weird. She does that to the names of a few businesses in town

Do you also say "I'm going to go to THE home depot" Just curious YASSSS!!!!! My entire family and I don't "HATE" it at all, but we are mildly entertained by it, and often imitate people who say it just to be silly. We used to live in San Antonio, where there's a BBQ chain called "Bill Miller." After working with the same people 25 years, my dear sister-in-law STILL hates it when her MANY co-workers insist on calling it "Bill Miller S". It drives her bonkers, so she overdoes it and says "Bill MillerZZZZZZZZ"

I haven't heard anyone call it Aldi*s* here, and we don't have Home Depot here. We also don't have Goodwill. We have St Vincent de Paul's (aka "Vinnies") and The Salvation Army (aka "Salvos"). Ack! People actually DO that? Well apparently, as I've learned today, that's what it's called and what they say in their commercials. It sounds wrong though, doesn't it?!

Well, around here folks go to The Walmart or The Sonic. Nearest Aldi is 2.5 hours away from me. I normally say Aldi but when I get tired I will admit to Aldi*s*. And we only have Lowes here. If I head north, an hour, I can go to Home Depot. Never thought to put The in front.

I don’t care about adding an s to store names. Just don’t do it with LEGO!

I must admit that myself and everyone I know says they are going to Tesco’s when shopping at Tesco, Marks and Spencer’s when shopping at Marks and Spencer! Not sure if it’s a British thing or if it’s just my family and friends! I didn’t know it was something that people found annoying! Yep - same here. It’s legos that drives me just a little bit nuts. Makes my toes curl every time.

I intentionally add an S to drive people nuts...I like to fuck with people. Walmarts, Targets, Subways. For the same reason I'll ask what flavor candle you're burning. You either love me or you don't. LOL - I was just at Target w/ DD looking at "flavored" lotions.

They have everything, and they’re open 24/7. You can play a fun game called The Meijer game. You go to the store at like 3am, and buy a bunch of odd things and see if you can make the check out person comment on your purchases. It is particularly fun when you are in college. 😂
