This is great! Teachers now need supportive people more than ever! I didn't participate last year because after 21 years of teaching, I don't have as many needs as others. This year I'm teaching math 100% virtually. I'm super excited, but I definitely have some needs/wants that my school cannot/will not provide, so if my list looks a little strange, please don't judge! Hopefully the list is shared correctly www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/dl/invite/2E7oZMY?ref_=wl_share

Mine says Dallas, but I live in a suburb. A general location is nice because it definitely affects your answers to some threads.

Students in my Texas high school can take PE virtually. I don’t know specifically about guard, but I know they can get a PE credit virtually because my son’s football coach sent out an announcement that said if you take athletics virtually you can get credit for the class but you can’t actually be on the team.

I love these two guys. I first saw their Jolene video when it was released and then fell down the YouTube rabbit hole on their channel. Their love and respect for music is inspiring. I wish everyone was that open.

I am always shocked at how much time you guys at the beginning of the year. We usually go back on a Monday, have freshmen on Thursday and all students on Friday In Texas teachers are on days and kids are on minutes. Teachers contracts are for 187 days. In my district kids go 170 days so that leaves an extra 17 contract days. All district don’t have as many, but we get 30 hours of inservice a year during the summer that gives us a fall break. We have a week in October, a week for Thanksgiving, 2 weeks for Christmas and a week for spring break. Basically a nice break at the end of each quarter. The two weeks of inservice is one week of meetings a one week of workdays. It’s nice.

We started back to teacher inservice in person last Monday. We have one more week of inservice and then the kids start 8/17. 40% of our students chose to do virtual. We only expected about 25%, so that threw everyone for a loop.
We finally got our job and room assignments on Friday. I will be teaching 100% virtually. I still have a classroom and will be teaching from the building. Now I have to move all my stuff to my new room. I’ve got so much to do!
Schools around me have been postponing because they haven’t gotten the cleaning supplies and PPE in that they’ve ordered. I’m wondering if we will end up delaying too. We definitely could use some extra time to get it all worked out.

I’m sorry but nothing you just said is ok. Are you saying you are expected to be on with kids in the evenings? Are they paying you for these extra hours? Is you classroom the only kinder in your school? If not, why don’t they pull teachers and make them only do virtual while everyone else does in person. I sure hope they get enough complaints that they figure out a better plan!

Hit my goal today of 5 bike rides for the week. I’ve also done 3 times on the elliptical and twice on the treadmill.

I used to be an ebooks only type girl, but I’ve fallen in love with audiobooks. I now usually have one book I’m reading on my paper white and another I’m listening to. I love to listen to books while cleaning or in the bathroom while getting ready in the mornings.

Morning bike ride done. I’m going to try and do a little on the elliptical tonight. So far I’ve done 4/5 of my rides for the week. Just one to go!

Exercise done for the morning. I didn’t get to ride the bike because DH wanted to work out with me! I did the elliptical to the Peloton ride he did. It was still really good. I’m going to try to go back out and ride the bike tonight.
ETA: The whole family went out the garage tonight. My DS did the treadmill since he was trying to walk out some of his soreness from 2 horus of football this AM. DH did the elliptical and I got a bike ride in. So far we are all doing well trying to fit in more excercise!

Today was my first day back to school for staff inservice. My DS had to be at school at 5:45, so after I dropped him off I came back home and got on my bike. I did a 20 minute Peloton Beginner ride when I got home. My intention is to go back out and spend some time on the elliptical tonight.
My goal for the week is ride the bike 5 times this week.

I used to like her show, but in the last several years she just seems to talk over her guests and doesn't seem particularly interested in what they have to say. I was not surprised to read about the allegations against her. I hope she uses this to make herself better because she played such a big role in paving the way for gay actors.

I’m a 6th grade math teacher just outside of Dallas. This will be my 22nd year of teaching. That is so hard to believe!
My district is offering 100% virtual, 100% in person, or a hybrid where kids in upper grades can come up for electives that are pretty much impossible to do at home and then take everything else virtually.
Dh and I teach in the same district and our kids both go to school in the district. The kids are going to school in person. I really just felt like we didn’t really have a choice. Although they are old enough to stay home by themselves, I just don’t think they will do good work if left to their own devices.
Dh and I both applied to teach virtually. Dh has already been told he will probably have some virtual classes and some in person classes because that’s what they are doing with high school. With elementary and intermediate the teachers will either be all virtual or all in person. I probably won’t find out until middle to end of next week what my assignment is. The worst thing is if Get to teach virtually, I will have to move classrooms.
It’s such a mess! Parents have until tomorrow by midnight to make their choice so we can make no plans until after then. Our first day of inservice starts tomorrow!

During all this mess we got our garage completely cleaned out and organized. We have set it up as a home gym. We already had a treadmill and added an elliptical I bought on Facebook marketplace. I ordered a spin bike back in June and it finally came in Thursday. I put it together and did my first ride this morning. I loved it. I got the Peloton app and the music was just perfect! I hope to get my DH out there with me tonight.
I would love a weekly thread. I’ve lost a lot of weight, but I’ve got some creeping back on. I’m planning to fix my eating habits and Exercise more!
Next week my DS has to be dropped off at football at 5:45 and I don’t have to be at school until 8:00 for our first week of inservice, so I’m going to throw on workout clothes and after dropping DS off come right in and do a ride.

But why would people do this - send their kid to school when they’re waiting on a test result from exposure? And don’t say because they think it’s a hoax, because then why would they have the child tested in the first place? I am 100% mystified. Surely there can’t be that many dumb people in the world. Because the parents thought it was unlikely the child had it or because it was the first day of school and they didn’t want their kid to miss out or because the parents had to work and didn’t have anyone to stay home with the kid Yep this exactly. This is why opening schools scares me so much. We’ve already seen that many adults cannot act responsibly in this mess and now we expect all parents to do what’s right and keep their kid out of school when they’ve had a possible exposure. Unfortunately after 21 years of teaching I’ve seen too many kids high on fever reducers, or telling me all about how they were up all night the night before throwing up to believe that all parents will do what’s right.

LOL! I'd be having a grand time giving my dh a hard time about that! Maybe you should wrap it up and give it to him for Christmas again this year. Yes! If he hasn't opened it by next Christmas, you have to wrap it and give it to him again!

School districts that are expecting kids to be in front of a computer for an entire full school day are setting themselves up for failure. I’m so glad my district is have a completely separate virtual academy. Students in grades 1-4 should she around 3 hours of instruction/work and grades 6-13 should have around 4. I don’t even like sitting on Zoom all day and I’m an adult!

We cannot in any way limit virtual. In fact, a kid has to be allowed to switch from in person to virtual at any time. You can only go from virtual to in person at the end of each grading period.

Check into Sling. At one time we had it to be able to watch the Rangers on Fox Sports SW. ETA I’m wrong, we had Sling for ESPN. You can do Hulu + live or YouTube TV if the channel is local to you. You can also check MLB TV and see if your team is blacked out for your area. We pay around $100 for the season so DH can watch all Cubs games but unfortunately the Rangers are blacked out because they are local. Here is the link to check if you’re blacked out on MLB TV. www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/subscribe#blackout-restrictions
