I go for cheap and quick. They don't look messy or anything, but I figure it all gets ripped up.

Tammy, I started to type "Of course, I wouldn't" and then decided to check. My new response is "thanks for reminding me".

Thanks for your replies, everyone. I'm glad to hear that there are good things coming out of the Greek Organizations. The ones here at WVU have been suspended for the remainder of the semester and possibly longer.
The report now is that the boy has been taken off of life support. He was only 18, a freshman. One of his last tweets was "it's about to be a very eventful night to say the least". Such a waste of a life....

I kind of equate menopause with the start of old ladydom so yeah to me it's wrong to hope for it. I've never had any trouble with my periods always regular and light with no pain and at 45 they're still that way, maybe if I had a monthly crime scene I'd feel differently. Old ladydom... Love it. lol
I don't mind being older. I think I've always been "older" in my mind and now my age has caught up to where I was mentally. Does that make sense? lol
Up until the frequent visits started, I was giving birth every month. Okay, it just felt like it. Horrid cramps and ***uber graphic warning**
No, seriously, stop reading if you have a weak stomach.
Okay.....
There would be a bit of bleeding the first day, everything would come out in a huge (to me) clump some time on the second day, and the third day was "clean-up". I was going through most of a box of 50 tampons during those days. Now, it's half that but more often.

I didn't join one in college, and I have no idea if any of my friends/family ever joined one.
WVU just suspended all of the fraternities/sororities after an "incident" yesterday. An "incident" that has resulted in the student being placed on life support and his family is now saying that he won't make it. I've heard they are keeping him on life support in order to donate his organs.
Last weekend, there was another "incident" where 19 people involved with another fraternity decided to run around a residential neighborhood at 1:30 in the morning screaming their heads off. Three people were arrested and the other 16 were cited. That fraternity was temporarily suspended.
Granted, I'm a resident of Morgantown, not a college student but I never hear of anything good that the fraternities/sororities do. And yes, I know that you usually only hear the bad stuff (hazing, underage drinking), so I'm curious. Did anyone join a sorority in college? Did it have any lasting impact on your life after college? And if so, was it something you could only get through a sorority?

I know there'll be hormonal changes and all that, but I've been having my period every three weeks (one week on, two weeks off) when I used to be a "starts every thirty days and lasts three days" kind of gal.
This is freakin' annoying! The only good part is that I'm a total and complete bitch the day it starts but then I'm fine - no cramps or moodiness versus the three-fours days of intense cramping and three-four days of post-period bitchiness I used to have.
I do have an appointment with my gynecologist, but you know I've gotta ask the all-knowing here! I'm almost 41, not on any medication that would alter my cycle - could this be the start of the end of almost three decades of periods??
Totally normal to want menopause, IMO.... but this "Starts every thirty days and lasts three days" makes me kinda hate you just a little. You never knew how good you had it! I know, I hate me a bit now too.

Oh dear baking god, I'm going to have serious issues making spice cake this year (the recipe calls for a large box of raisins soaked in water). I never thought of that image before! lol I am so so sorry! the recipe i used them for was a carrot salad. So they stayed that way! It was really weird to eat. But in baking I would think some of the moisture will be removed, right? Right? No, they stay nice and plump. lol

I was afraid it would die off for facebook groups or something. The problem I had with the fb group idea is that there were no degrees of separation. Anyone I'm friends in RL could have joined a fb group and then where would I have gone to vent/ask opinions/be slightly invisible?

In 2nd grade. We started homeschooling and a couple of the curriculums we used were computer-based (Rosetta Stone was one).
The puppy was locked down better than Fort Knox until this year, though.

My grandma used to make a Black Forest cake in a bundt pan and I remember it had a cream filling inside the cake with cherries on top. We all think it was a box mix but I don't think it's being sold anymore.
So, can anyone link me to a recipe that is like I described? Thanks!!!!

A friend went to our Target and bought a cart full of clearanced candy. She makes up goody bags of candy, socks, and mittens for the kids at a couple of local shelters.

Essentially everyone that wanted to be involved sent their info to the organizer (name, address), who would put it all together and send a master list back.

Here's the thing, though...I didn't perceive any of those jokes as being "about" 9/11. But we only have the Freedom Tower as a direct result of 9/11. If it had been a building demolished because of age and a new one built, he wouldn't have made a joke about it.

Chris Rock is only funny when he has a good script. I couldn't stand him on SNL. I think he was tasteless by trying to get a laugh based on horrific events.

The turkey exploded here today - I got rid of the Halloween stuff and put up the Fall/Thanksgiving stuff.
This is the first time in 8 years that I've had the space to host dinner and I can't wait!

These kids get out of school at 2:30 and some of their parents don't even know where they are until they get home at 9-9:30 How do you know that for sure? There are five "regulars" that come to our house after school (they do homework here). Two of the three girls are sisters and their mom often calls me after she gets home at 9ish to ask if I've seen her girls or know where they are.

Holy $hit! He is 11 and the parents leave the kids unsupervised, outside at night, in or near a wooded area...that would not be happening here. Stick to your guns, Mom. You know best. Seriously. At age 11 he needs freedom but NOT THAT MUCH FREEDOM! I took four of the kids (including ds) Trunk or Treating last night. We got home late and the two girls wanted to go home. It was late so I drove them and no one was home. They couldn't get anyone on the phone so I made them go back with me. Mom didn't answer the phone until 11:30 ish and she still wasn't home. The girls stayed with me.

Sorry, ds is 11. 12 in April. His friends are all 11/12, boys and girls.
It's not that I say "no" all of the time - I'm actually pretty easy going. We do spur-of-the-moment things, I do buy him junk food, I allow him to stay up as late as he wants on Friday and Saturday nights, I let him watch Walking Dead and play Call of Duty. He has multiple gaming systems, and his own Netflix account, and he's allowed to go anywhere in our neighborhood, even in the icky ravine and wooded area. I bend over backwards sometimes to do things for him and his friends. I just don't let him do whatever he wants the majority of the time, which is what the other parents do. And the Xbox/smartphone issue is mostly because we don't know if dh will have a job come January, we don't want to spend extra money right now if we don't have to.
The thing is that I do know how the other parents are, I've talked to them about stuff before - they think that their kids are capable of taking care of themselves with no monitoring. One father told me once that his 90 lb. daughter could get away from anyone, and that they'd get tired of her quick anyway. Another mom has let her son spend weekends alone since he was 6 or 7. Two of the girls will call their parents at 8 or 9 and leave a message saying "I'm staying at Angie's house" and the parents don't call and check.
I can't be like that. I just can't be that permissive. Ds sees that happening and thinks their parents are awesome and that they trust their kids. I feel like they are letting their children raise themselves.
