I’ve never met DS’s second cousins on my side of the family as I haven’t seen my cousins since I was 25. My dad is an only child and we weren’t close to my mother’s family. DS has met some of his second cousins on his dad’s side, but that’s it. Although they live in neighboring states, we rarely see them. Let’s just say, there’s a whole lot of crazy circulating in some parts of that gene pool.

Laparoscopic in 2015 that took out everything except cervix. Mine was essentially preemptive as I have a family history of ovarian cancer. Once doc got in, she did find quite a bit of endometriosis which took some more work, but I was O U T. I’m so glad I had it done as the discomfort I was having that I thought was just aging is gone, and I no longer have to worry about developing ovarian cancer. It was four small incisions and very little pain afterwards. My biggest problem was finding clothes that didn’t rub the incisions—two lower ones were right at panty line.

How is it legal for the police to confiscate her guns, even if she was making threats? If she’d been arrested for it, I could see her being taken away and the guns confiscated then, but otherwise. . . What am I not understanding? And why the hell didn’t the FAMILY take her guns away if they suspected she might use them?

Since we can’t figure out where we out ours when we got back from Spain two years ago, it’s a non-issue right now. Even if we did know, it would never have occurred to us. DS is in central Florida and is cheap as they come. No way will he be taking any overseas trips any time soon unless we are paying for it, so . . . still a non-issue.

It sounds as if many of y’all are projecting your own experiences and feelings onto what sounds like an awkward but innocently made comment about a skinny girl with a proportionally large appearing butt. It doesn’t sound at all sexual to me, nor does it seem inappropriate that a grandparent would comment on his grandchild’s appearance, any more than it would be inappropriate for him to comment on her grades or athletics or hobbies. If suddenly it is, then my grands must have been the biggest pervs on the planet since they frequently told me I was pretty, commented on my Shirley Temple curls or bragged on my (non-existent) artistic abilities. It’s what grandparents do.
I shudder to think what y’all would have made of my father who called me Whale Tail because like the granddaughter, I was a small kid with a lot of junk in my trunk. Yet, somehow, I survived without being sexually assaulted or traumatized.

During the teaching year, every day because my curls get squashed into odd patterns when I sleep. During the summer, about every other day, after I get back from the gym. I sweat from my head and face, so the roots of my hair and back are dripping by the time I’m done.

I second Fabletics. They hold up amazingly well and keep everything where it belongs while still allowing me to breathe.

Guesstimating between $30 and $50 per week for 3 of us. It’s more during the summer because we buy more fresh fruit and veggies while during the winter, we buy mainly frozen. For whatever wacky way my mind works, frozen produce ceases to count!
Those of you who subscribe to CSAs, how do you find them? I have no idea if we have any in the area, but I’d love to join if we did.

Since I outgrew all my shorts, I haven’t bought any new ones. I would have, but in the last few years, I’ve developed vitiligo, especially behind my knees. So I would rather wear capris or leggings that cover that area than shorts which expose it. I fully acknowledge that it’s my vanity driving the decision!

We are using SlingTV Blue + Orange and subscribed to HBO through it. We had Netflix and Amazon Prime before, so Sling is the bulk of our live TV. We were using ATT U-Verse before and found that we could take it down to just basic service for $15 a month to get local live news, none of which is covered with Sling or any other service we could find. We also subscribe to CBS All Access for $6 month since none of the streaming companies offer it as part of the package.
By cutting the cable, even adding Sling and CBS, we cut our TV bill by $120 per month.

My mom almost fell for this about my rules-follower, straight as an arrow son last year. Luckily my dad was in the room while she was fielding the call and hung the phone up before calling me so that I could get a good laugh out of it. Even after Dad got her off the phone, she tried calling my son just to make sure he was okay.
Thank goodness my dad still has all his sense!

How come guys don’t have to put crystals on their junk to make it pretty? No amount of crystals or glitter can make men’s junk “pretty.” Just not gonna happen.

I don’t think you can BE an integrated society if the society is homogeneous, which is what you seem to be saying. Someone or something considered “other” or outside the norm would have to be worked into the existing culture, but you have no other to integrate into the dominant culture. In other words, diversity is a prerequisite for the need to integrate.
I’m not trying to imply that your situation is wrong or bad because it isn’t diverse, just that it has no way or need to be given the existing population.

Although I shop year round, I rarely buy something specifically for a vacation. If I end up taking new clothes with me, it’s just because I happened to have just bought them, not because I purchased them for the holiday. The only exception would be when we went to Alaska. Floridians just don’t have a lot of clothes suited for tramping across glaciers.

Like many other Refupeas, recycling is bundled in with water, sewer, and trash. We get weekly pickup of garbage, unsorted recycling, yard waste—as long as each pile of yard waste is no larger than 3’ x 3’ x 3’. I can line my whole yard with the piles though. Fun fact: we have to schedule for bulky pickup, like a frig, but we’ve found that if we put anything by the curb, it’s gone by the next morning. There are a lot of junk collectors who come through neighborhoods early on trash day, picking up “goodies.” We pay about $65/month depending on our water use.

We go to the IL’s home in the NC mountains once a year... May I ask where & when? Our paths may cross! Sure! It’s in Franklin, usually right around Memorial Day. And, since both DH’s parents and his sister’s family live in NC (Greensboro), we are planning on retiring somewhere near Asheville, though not any time soon.

I ordered from Penzey’s for the first time with the big Heart and Soul giveaway (that I FINALLY got my back order for this week). We have really appreciated all the special seasoning mixtures we’ve tried as well as the freshness of the individual spices we’ve used so far. DH has already stated that he will buy all his spices from Penzeys from here on.

We go to the IL’s home in the NC mountains once a year, free of charge, and usually to Orlando Area for another week. About every 3 to 4 years, we take a big trip (Hawaii, Ireland, etc.) So, twice a year guaranteed with Sometimes a third.

Or get a dryer that had the Steam Fresh option. It sprays in a mist of water and then tumbled at low heat for a few minutes to dewrinkle. I don’t even know where my iron is . . . Just saying. My dryer is new, about 6 weeks old, so a new one isn't an option but I will have a look and see if there's a programme/function I haven't discovered yet Do you tube everything? So many items seem to have the 'don't tumble' icon on the advice label - do you only buy stuff that can be tumbled or do you ignore them and do items that they say shouldn't go in? Anything that shouldn’t be tumble dried, I air dry for 30 minutes and then hang dry. To be fair, I wear mainly knits, and DH buys mainly permanent press shirts and pants. Since we both teach, we put a premium on easy care fabrics. I quit buying anything that required dry cleaning years ago.

First marriage we spent a week in a condo on the beach in Perdido Key, FL (between Pensacola and Orange Beach, AL). My parents helped me pay for it as ex was a useless POS. I should have paid attention.
Second time, FIL sent DH and I on an Alaskan cruise, my parents paid for all the excursions, and DH and I only had to worry about souvenirs! Wonderful and relaxing.

Since no one in my family has any desire to do #2, take my answer with a grain of salt. I would do #1 but probably take DS with us. For our 10 year anniversary, we did a tour of Ireland and left DS with my in laws who took him to the Florida Keys. He has NEVER let us live it down. So, for 15, we did a family cruise with a group of friends to Spain and Italy, which we all adored. We are currently making plans for another one for his college graduation—destination to be determined. Luckily, he’s an only and DH and I teach and can take trips almost any time during the summer, so our trip planning is easier than some might have to deal with.

We almost always rent a condo specifically because we like having a kitchen and laundry facilities. DH and I both enjoy cooking, even more when we are on vacation and have time to spend on it without worrying about all the minutiae of day-to-day life. As no one in the family is an early riser, DH enjoys starting each day with a leisurely big breakfast before we go out hiking, enjoying a theme park, or visiting sites. We usually grab something quick for lunch and head back for a late, home-cooked dinner. On a vacation of a week, we probably have dinner out twice at local places.

We pay DS’s rent, phone, and gas and give him $75/week for groceries (he’s in an off campus shared apartment). His tuition and books are paid for by scholarships, so he’s essentially at the same starting point as your son.
He’s never asked us for more money even though he eats out once or twice a week, goes to movies and concerts, etc. in fact, he ended the year with more money in his account than when he began because his scholarship gave him more money than he used. I would think that $40/ per week would be fine UNLESS he plans on joining a frat.

My lady parts were evicted 3 years ago, the whole package, and I feel great. Because there is a high incidence of ovarian cancer in my family, I couldn’t take oral hormone replacement, so sex had become uncomfortable after menopause. After the Roto-Rooter, that issue was eliminated!

Do I get more elite points for being a public school teacher (well known hotbed of liberals) or a private school teacher (rich kids whose parents probably voted for Trump)? I don't think liberal elite points kick in heavily for educators until you're a tenured professor. Then it's straight to the head of the line, do not pass go, you're Liberal Elite for sure. Woohoo! I’ve been afraid to even submit my application as I live in the reddest part of Florida, am the daughter of a career Navy pilot, and voted Republican in almost every presidential election. (This one broke the pattern.) But now that I know that my status as a tenured English professor is enough to bolster my MA from an elite liberal arts college, I can breathe easily.

I prefer books, but have run out of room in my house for them—even after converting a bedroom into a library. So, now I usually only buy craft and cooking books or books that I’m considering teaching in one of my classes.
I use a Nook for almost all of my reading for all the reasons everyone has given for the Paperwhite. I also have both the Nook and the Kindle app on my iPad and use those when I’m traveling to avoid having multiple electronic gadgets with me.

myshelly sorry my hands aren't steady today, But I agree that is part of the problem. I agree with what you said.Whenevever hatefull things are said about a group of people or a person regaurding a race or religion or whatever someone doesn't like about them. One not worse than the other. And YES I do get it..don't tell me if i do or not. I don’t think you understood. What myshelly is saying is that people equate criticism of a religion with being “hateful.” It’s not hateful to question or criticize a religion for things it does, says or promotes or to question its historical actions and beliefs. You might not like when people criticize Mormonism for, say, it’s historical racism against non-whites, but their doing so is just stating a truth.
