Wrist update: possible hairline fracture at the growth plate. There is a bump there. We have to go to a fancy peds x-ray person in 7-10 days (read $$$) to see if it has gotten better or worse. Brace until then. No band. She has two parades, two band spectaculars, and a game in the next 7-10 days. She is going to have to march with no clarinet! Poor kid.
And thank you!!
Argh!

So shipping theory #1 apparently isn’t correct. Shipping theory #2: They put everyone’s name in a giant hat and pull them out randomly to fulfill orders. 🤷🏻♀️ Someone needs to get a job there to find out! Where is our SC insider? I suspect it’s something closer to random, probably not by zip code or we’d be able to notice the pattern. I assume they have many people getting pick lists and some must take a lot longer than others to box… I’m trying to imagine how I’d do it if I was running things… but I don’t think I can imagine the scale of the task correctly. And Inked sucks, so they probably do it differently than I would, lol. I had to look up zip codes because I was curious to see how they are distributed: simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ZIP_Code_prefixesSorry to hear you have to wait for your surgery

Here’s my favorite pumpkin soup recipe www.budgetbytes.com/spicy-coconut-pumpkin-soup/(90% of the food I cook is from her site. I never knew I could use up spices regularly until I started following her recipes. She uses the same spices over and over so if you like those flavors it’s easy to stock a limited selection of spices and actually use them all the time.) This project is a bit challenging for me. I know what it is: It is still just Fall. The Halloween stuff hasn't really started happening yet. I have tons of Halloween bits/stickers/paper but not so many Fall bits. That's fine, I'm making it work. Just not in the groove yet. I'm going out of order and that's fine too. But I'm super bummed. Our town does a zombie walk each year and last year we went to watch and it was so much fun. I didn't realize it was happening yesterday until I saw some photos of it after it was over. Oh well. I'm following their facebook page now so I shouldn't miss it again but I was excited for that story. We went camping so I've got lots of photos from that. I'm going to scrap the swap now. Then I was home alone one evening and made myself "mom is home alone" charcuterie (basically a pile of random foods so I didn't have to cook). I took a photo of that with my pumpkin little debbie and will scrap that with the packaging from the treats. Has anyone had the skull caprese salad pop up on instagram? basically they are smashing the mozz. into a skill mold. It looks so amazing. I'm going to try to find a skull mold right now. Also, I have some goat cheese and I don't know what to do with it. How do you all eat it? We were going to make a dish but it's not going to happen so now I have it. Skull caprese - YES! I have seen it, but not done it. I love that the balsamic vinegar collects in the eye holes and makes them look extra creepy. Goat cheese - added onto a pizza for extra yum, tossed with various salads (here are some ideas - www.budgetbytes.com/?s=goat+cheese) or just on crackers. I could eat it right out of the package tbh. Or this www.seriouseats.com/caramelized-onion-and-goat-cheese-tartlets-recipe yum. Also recommend making an orange soup (carrot pumpkin, or whatever orange squash/butternut? soup you like) drizzling with thinned sour cream then running a fork through the drizzles to make spiderweb shapes. Maybe do a search on IG or Pinterest for spooky foods and create a wishlist of things to try making, even if you don't actually make many. People have some pretty creative ideas. Even my local Kroger sends out a flyer full of silly foods to make for Halloween. For the zombie walk - that's a total bummer to miss it, but I would still put it in your album. Just steal some Fbk photos and journal about missing out on it. Maybe you can come up with some brainless pun about how you missed it because you were in zombie mode. Or not. You could totally just add a page/card about making sure you don't miss it next year. Hopefully more spooky fall activities come your way I found that I just don't do enough stuff in October to lead up to Halloween to feel like I could make a whole album. Fall doesn't really seem like a big thing here, maybe because our summer is perfect, and fall is a moldy mess, dark and wet. Not a lot of people here are excited to go outside in October compared to in July and August because we don't have disgusting hot summer weather (or central air conditioning). Even the pluviophiles are just excited to stay inside and hide in a blanket fort with their books and a cat while listening to the rain in October. Or at least that's how it seems to me. I still need to get started on the cover for my OD from a few years back.

http://instagram.com/p/CyHPd97gXpz I am going to work on my Halloween album this month. It is an orange Citrus Twist album. The Instagram post shows my basic plan. My daughter is 6 and I have the 4x6 photos of her costumes already printed and in the pocket protector. The journaling spot is giving me trouble. What details about the costume would you put? This is my start. Costume Year: 2017 Type: Dinosaur From: Costco Maybe a review of how she liked it? or how you liked it? Or what she thinks about it now? If you have any memories of whether the costume was a nuisance or inappropriate for the weather or if it was a popular costume that year or why you/she chose it would add some more details and feelings to the journaling. If you don't you could just add a star (or ghost) rating.

I know there is no perfect way of doing things, but I have a pretty big problem with Ali’s boxing period. I can put up with the long drawn out wait, but I think it’s kind of garbage that they create this frenzy where you set your alarm, and hurry to add your favorite things to your box to ensure you get the things that you want the most, and feel this huge sense of relief when you get the things you want before they’ve sold out. Then, someone else can order one of those same items 4 weeks later after all sorts of low inventory warnings, and they then receive the item, and you can be told, sorry it’s out of stock, because we chose to ship your box last, even though you ordered first. I’m sorry, but what a joke. I am actually so turned off by it, that I don’t know if I’ll participate in Ali’s boxing period next year. Sorry for the long rant, but as someone whose box is usually one of the last one’s sent out every year, I’m pretty annoyed by the whole thing. I don’t need my box right now, I’m fine with the wait, but I think I might prefer in the future to give my money to a company that is first come, first serve on their products. Good luck to everyone else still waiting, may the odds be ever in our favor 😏 I hope they don’t make a habit of doing this, and that they hear loud feedback if they do. There is no excuse, they should have a better system of inventory management to make sure this doesn’t happen. I would be furious. (especially if they charged your credit card when you placed the order).

I’ve seen some posts on IG, brand blog hops and the like, and I expect there will be a lot of videos on YT but besides getting a lot of discount codes this week it’s not really on my radar. I might check out craft roulette for the first time but I usually make cards during the week and try to do something different on the weekends. I don’t think we planned anything for the boards/challenges.

In my post Mormon/hedonism lifestyle I went to the local coffee place and ordered a drink called Caramel Apple from their cute little chalkboard of fall drinks. I did not realize it was a coffee drink until I asked her as she was making it and it had two shots of espresso, something I've never consumed. I'm not sure I'll ever acquire a love for coffee, but I was hoping the added sugary things would make it great. I don't absolutely hate it, but won't order it again. I DO love the orange cranberry scone with zest in the orange icing. I was very good and didn't get the smore's cookie. I swear those marshmallows were roasted. Oh wow, I don't know that caramel apple would be my choice to introduce someone to their first espresso drink! It's a pretty polarizing combination. If you decide to try some more I would recommend a mocha, nice and chocolatey to balance the bitter coffee (assuming you like chocolate) or a pumpkin spice latte type of thing. Both sweet and creamy and rich, not too coffee flavored, but both compliment the coffee better than apple IMO. A hot apple cider with caramel is probably what you were expecting - yum Coffee is definitely an acquired taste... How did you cope with the caffeine? Did you get the jitters? Or are you accustomed to caffeinated drinks?

I'd be inclined just to write an email describing what we've discussed here without linking it and suggesting that if they don't have any DT members who are Jewish that they might want to reach out to some crafters who are and/or make sure to create their own samples so there's *something* on the page. They might claim that no Jewish people have applied to be on their DT but as we were reminded in mid2020 companies need to reach out and invite diversity instead of assuming it will just come to them. I think there are many of us who make cards for charities who would be happy to make Hanukkah cards if we had some good products and inspiration. I would think there would be quite a demand for them in senior communities and I feel bad for not making cards for Hanukkah.

My DD order is in Sydney woohoo!!! I'm south of Melbourne and it's Friday late afternoon, so maybe I'll have it Tues/Wed next week. This is the fastest it's ever arrived in Australia. Usually it takes about three weeks, but I made a special effort to buy lots of things hoping for expedited shipping lol. Thats great news. Mine is currently in Hawaii. Fingers crossed it arrives as predicted. Halfway(ish) there!

Does anyone have any advice on JYC vs DD. Differences between the two? Does anyone like one approach better than the other? Are there other options for a December daily project? The responses above definitely capture many of the differences between the two projects. It partly depends on who you prefer to watch. DD tends to feel very product driven to me, and the way Ali does it (when I followed) was quite loose, no worries about whether she captured the same themes each year to compare, very focused in the right now, daily life, project life style. Shimelle’s album isn’t significantly different in the sense that it’s also pocket pages with photos from the month, but much more holiday focused, with specific effort to catch things that happen every year to compare and contrast. And the prompts she sends out are far more philosophical- thinking about childhood and past holidays as well as the current one. Shimelle’s prompts are short essays sent automatically every day Dec 1-Jan 6 every year after you sign up. There may or may not be a daily video to go along with them. Life gets in the way and she tends to overpromise and underdeliver on that, and no matter what she says you will never see the finished album in January. You will generally see a flip through of last year’s album at the beginning of the December though. But once you sign up you can go back and watch any year’s videos and see all the prompts. Her forum is even more basic/old fashioned than this one. It doesn’t have the immediacy of Fbk or Ig. If you would like a sample of what the prompts look like I have a few old ones saved (no video, just the pdf). PM me if you’d like a link. There are plenty of people doing their own versions of December projects in different formats - planners and art journals and the like. But none seemed to have the following of DD or JYC and nine really spoke to me. I have seen some cool themed versions of DD though - where people came up with their own categories or prompts and made pages that were less daily and more celebrating the things they love about Xmas. sleepingbooty also posts daily prompts on the boards in December. You should be able to see her threads from past years.

I know Stamptember is over but now comes the deja vu when companies release stamps that look a lot like ones we saw during the event. This one is by a different company, not Pretty Pink Posh’s Christmas/America centric globe in Stamptember. trinitystamps.com/products/planet-earth-die-set They’re also showing it used as a moon but I had to post this photo for the Peas…

I left a comment on one of their IG posts (the one announcing the new collection). I had been looking at Hanukkah stamps recently, thinking about making some for charity and for a couple of Jewish friends. I definitely need inspiration to get started though - I’m not very familiar with Hanukkah traditions. Catherine Pooler has a set that Daniel West from Del and Artie was demonstrating (maybe on YT?) shop.catherinepooler.com/products/love-light-bundleI also looked at a Sunny Studios set that has half a dozen examples www.scrapbook.com/store/sss-sscl-363.htmlBut both of them are a bit more froufrou, not so graphic and modern. I don’t know how SSS’s DT works, if they get all the new things or an allowance to choose what they want. You’d think that if they had the motivation to design the stamp they’d at least make one example card with it. Very disappointing.

These are the cards I have made so far using the latest Sheetload sketch and a Doodlebug fall/pumpkin spice collection. I'm not sure if I'll add sentiments to all of the cards without them - if I do it will just be a small strip saying hello, most likely. I don't have many good fall sentiments so I might print my own. I'm probably just going to keep going with this sketch until I run out of cut apart squares for the focal image. Oct share - sets/SLOC by jo.blackford, on Flickr

It’s a beautiful card and color combination, joblackford . I had a shiny red, silver, and white patterned card stock from my stash that I used for the base of my card. I used Wink of Stella on the matte side of the silver card stock that I used for the die cut 3D bow. Ooh, perfect! I love the red and silver together with just a few hints of white. I always forget about Wink of Stella. Love that extra bit of shine. Thanks for playing along

Every Wednesday a new color scheme to get you started. Thanks grammadeeThis week my inspiration came from a card I saw on YouTube. (spoilers for the Spellbinders Stitchmas Advent Calendar) Sorry I couldn’t find a still image of the card on her IG, but the color scheme is red, white, grey and/or silver. I made a quick sample card: CARDtober Wed 4th by jo.blackford, on Flickr Twist: add some white highlights with gel pen or something sparkly like Stickles.
