Old Two Peas: My we have changed and not changed...

No, not at all. I've seen a few times that peas ask for the conservative point of view, but it's always related to political threads. I guess, what I'm trying to say is that while I may be conservative, it's not a word I would use when describing myself or why I think what I do about a random thread. That said, I'm not sure how someone would determine a conservative point of view if the topic isn't political. And depending on the topic I may be in full agreement with the liberal side of the nation and wondering what the hell the other side is thinking. Not sure if I'm making sense at all.

That was my favorite too. Especially because a friend and I were just discussing colored toilet paper a few days ago.

Reading those threads and seeing so many names I haven’t seen in forever gave me a lump in my throat. I was in a terrible, abusive marriage back then, and while I was mostly a lurker, the NSBR board was my escape. It moved at lightning speed and there’s was always some kind of drama going on (Yubon, Lauren, or Skybar were usually involved). I remember checking NSBR during my lunch period (I’m a teacher) because if I didn’t, I’d be totally lost by the time I got home.

I’m still here (obviously, lol) but I’m still pretty quiet. My life is so different now-I’m married to a great guy, my “babies” are 12 & 16, and we’ve moved away from the town I called home for 40 years. The NSBR was a soft spot where I could land when I was struggling to get from one day to the next.

Okay, I’ve gotta stop before I start crying, lol.

I can't figure out how to look at posts. Can someone please explain it to me?

Hard to believe my now-16 year old was just a year old back then. My ex-DH used to call the old board "Mommy Myspace."

Fern was a lovely Pea. We used to have a group of Orange County Peas who would get together for dinner once a month. We had so much fun. I think I'm the only one from the group who is here though.

Laura (baybunny) appears in my Facebook friends recommendations every now and then. I don't know how Facebook does that.

Yes, somewhere along the way (maybe when this board started?) she changed her name from Skybar to Skypea. And she sure did hate President Obama. She couldn't even bring herself to type out his name. It was always bo or dbo - and always lowercase. I remember someone asking her why dbo - I can't remember the answer, perhaps the "d" stood for dictator? I'm sure if someone could be bothered they'd be able to find the post. 

ETA: I found the possible answer in a post by anxiousmom on this thread (these were not anxiousmom's thoughts, but her explanation as to why Skypea referred to him as dbo): "It is a reference to President Obama being a dictator in the form of North Korea...'Dear Leader' ... as in Dear Barack Obama. It was an all encompassing concept that he had a secret Muslim agenda, taking the country down the path of authoritarian dictatorship, was building a secret police force under the auspices of FEMA (along with FEMA detention camps) and stripping away our ability to resist by taking away our guns. There is more of course, but basically, it is supposed to be an absolute insult."

Remember Brown Eyed Pea and that private board until someone decided to post some of the threads from there? OMG what a ruckus that caused!  

Yep, the "wild pea" other board was Unscrappables. It was way tamer than the rumors implied. Mostly on the "have a few glasses of wine and post naughty things" level of content. There were only a few of us who were actually living alternative lifestyles. The rest of it wasn't much to raise any eyebrows over. I remember when the big drama blowout was gearing up and I left before it really got ugly. One good thing came of it, we did an artist trading card swap, with a more adult theme, so nudity, pinup art, etc... and wow there were some talented paper artists there, I still have my set of cards in my ATC albums.

But, no. Neither Unscrappables nor T.O.B. were dens of iniquity. No sanctuaries for shit talking. No X rated content. Just other Pea spaces to be less reserved in. I get why a lot of peas were upset about them. The invite only nature being exclusionary, and wondering what was going on behind "closed doors" so to speak. But between spreadsheets, smack blogs, and unstable women taking online vendettas into real life harassment, it was a natural progression to create spaces away from the main site where people could be more open and not feel as vulnerable about it.

I remember that most of the ones who were so vocally butthurt and outraged over T.O.B. and Unscrappables were the ones were were hiding from. So, there was that...
