Maybe StephDRebel will have some advice for you, regarding your relationship / safe sex questions. ?? I think that sort of thing is one of the subjects her company focuses on-- just a thought. (has she posted in a while? I haven't noticed.) I'm glad the procedure went okay... I think waiting for results is the hard part, actually. Please don't start thinking 'worst case' and worry too much before you know anything for sure (it's tough, I know); worrying and being anxious is bad for your health, too. Yes, Steph has been on in the past week, so hopefully she will chime in. ashley, I’m sorry that you are feeling so hopeless right now. I wish I had magic words to make that go away, but I don’t. The best I’ve got is that you are special and deserve someone who will cherish you enough to take the precautions and then eventually get tested for HPV. I believe that will happen for you, I do. I’ll continue to hold you in my thoughts and prayers. (((Hugs)))

I've done a lot of reading about HPV lately. Chances are, since the men you are sleeping with are sexually active adults, even though they THINK they have been tested for everything and are clean, they may already be carrying HPV. There is no test in men, and condoms don't completely block it. We women learn we have it because there is a test in women that is either run with our pap smear or when our pap comes back abnormal. And there is not a darn tootin' thing to do about it besides hope your immune system takes care of it.
I did my reading after I was too old for the vaccine, so if you are young enough and sexually active outside of a monogamous relationship (or may be at some point later in your life), go thou and get vaccinated. I was questioning why we get our 12 year olds vaccinated for HPV, but my 17 year old's doctor brought it up for the first time this year - we chose "think about it," but it will be an absolutely YES at the next visit (mutually discussed and decided).

I’m back home... the procedure was ok. Somewhat uncomfortable. Now to wait 4 weeks for the results... to find out if it is cancer and what happens next. Which might mean a hysterectomy. Glad you survived the procedure, but wow, that wait time is unreal. I had similar situation and mine was done on a Thursday and they called me on Monday with the results. I so hope it it faster for your sanity. Prayers for good results.

So I think the results will be back sooner and if it isn’t cancer or any worse than it’s already been graded, they’ll just tell me at my follow up appointment (in Feb, and I’ll have a Pap smear and colposcopy done then).

From what I understand, the same as women - it takes our immune systems anywhere from 9 months to 2 years. I like the earlier recommendation to boost your immune system with folic acid - there are some studies out there on folic acid and vitamin B.
Do you have insurance that covers vaccines? I think mine would cover it at 100% as preventative.

Doesn’t sound like an option here, their website has the pricing listed the same as I’ve read elsewhere and still requires getting a prescription somewhere else and having it filled at a pharmacy.

No, I have no insurance currently and won’t for a while probably. Check the prices at your public health clinic as it's usually much cheaper there if you are uninsured.

If you are in the USA - I can’t remember whether you are here or in Canada - PP’s website says: If you are in Canada, they might have something similar, since it is offered by the drug company who makes the vaccine.

ashley Don't feel like shit. I'm sorry I was being to the point. I went through all this last year and the year before and the year before that. Paps every 4 months, Two colposcopys a LEEP and a cold knife cone surgery. They tested my type during my pap.So I found out I had the two strains that put me at high risk for cervical cancer. After my 2nd colposcopy in august 2018, my doc told me the only thing they have found to show some results in helping the body to fight and clear hpv was folic acid. Than at my 4 month check, post surgery, my pap came back completely clear, no more hpv. I took that EVERY SINGLE DAY. AndI still take it now. Whether that's what did it or not, I don't care it is gone. So don't feel like there's no hope, the body just takes time to get it's shit together sometimes. Do you know what CIN yours was graded at? Mine is already at 3.

I’m shocked (!) fantastic Canadian single payer didn’t recommend, require and pay for it? Whuuuttttt?
While I recognize I am being an ass, I can’t help but find it slightly interesting that Canadian healthcare isn’t quite up to American standards.
Funny enough- I can go get the vaccine series tomorrow. Using my insanely expensive Blue Cross Blue Shield healthcare. For like $40.
My son on the other hand... could go get it for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE using Tricare Prime, in 4 months.

They even bring it to schools so that all 7th graders can get the vaccine without a trip to the doctor. You do understand that Tricare Prime is single-payer healthcare? Just that the only ones given access to it are the military and their dependents. You kind of shoot your supposed argument/inappropriate gloat against single-payer healthcare with that one. In fact, you kind of look like someone bragging about how great single payer healthcare is. Either that or someone too ignorant to actually know what Tricare Prime is. Or both. Now, I started this thread to be a support thread for Ashley. Go be a jerk someplace else. And when you get a cancer scare, hope that you are nice enough somewhere that people there support you through the process. I am embarrassed for you and your lack of social awareness.

My son on the other hand... could go get it for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE using Tricare Prime, in 4 months. wow, no need to be an asshole And here’s the thing... your mocking of my situation is not targeting our health care system, you’re making fun of my place in life right now. You have private insurance to cover the cost of your vaccine. Here in Ontario, all boys and girls under the age of 12 receive the vaccines fully covered for cost, at school. And any woman with a cervix 26 years old or younger can receive the vaccine fully covered with no out of pocket cost. These are all fully covered by our tax-funded health care system. I currently do not have private insurance (like you currently do) because my life has been in utter upheaval for the past two years. I HAD private insurance (for about $50/month) through my old job, which covered prescriptions, eyewear, and therapies. But I had to leave that job 2.5 years ago when my alcoholic ex husband was out of control and I could no longer tolerate sharing a home with him, so I kicked him out. And I’ve spent the past year getting on my feet — going back to school for a much better career, buying myself my own first car, learning to take care of an entire house and four children completely on my own — so I didn’t have private insurance through work benefits like I’ve had in the past. Now I’m starting a new career and waiting for a permanent job offer. And I won’t have benefits and insurance for at least three months after that job offer is finalized. So my health care system has taken pretty good care of me. In the past year I’ve have three ultrasounds, one X-ray, three Pap smears, two colposcopies, two biopsies, a LEEP surgery, and no less than a vat of bloodwork performed. And even without private insurance, I have not had to pay one cent out of pocket for any of that care. No co-pays, nothing. So can take your privilege of being in a place in life in which YOU can afford private insurance and you can go shove it up your fucking cervix!!

Yes, I do understand that Tricare Prime is single payer. That's the point. So many people in the US are under the impression that single payer doesn't clog and bog down availability. That patients actually have some say in their care. That is why I pointed out I could start the series tomorrow (using my private insurance) whereas my son, in order to use his Humana insurance will have to wait over 4 months for an appointment. Perhaps you look like someone who cannot comprehend what was written. We've been through this elaine. Come on, you have the spreadsheet, you know I am prior military (although you did point out that my service and experience are invalid), and my son is a military dependent of an active duty service member. I didn't say a single negative word to, or about Ashley.
