In Canada, all people - up to age 26 because of vaccination recommendations for the general public (Ashley would now be at special risk) - get the vaccine for FREEEEEEEEEEEE! They even bring it to schools so that all 7th graders can get the vaccine without a trip to the doctor. You do understand that Tricare Prime is single-payer healthcare? Just that the only ones given access to it are the military and their dependents. You kind of shoot your supposed argument/inappropriate gloat against single-payer healthcare with that one. In fact, you kind of look like someone bragging about how great single payer healthcare is. Either that or someone too ignorant to actually know what Tricare Prime is. Or both. Now, I started this thread to be a support thread for Ashley. Go be a jerk someplace else. And when you get a cancer scare, hope that you are nice enough somewhere that people there support you through the process. I am embarrassed for you and your lack of social awareness. Yes, I do understand that Tricare Prime is single payer. That's the point. So many people in the US are under the impression that single payer doesn't clog and bog down availability. That patients actually have some say in their care. That is why I pointed out I could start the series tomorrow (using my private insurance) whereas my son, in order to use his Humana insurance will have to wait over 4 months for an appointment. Perhaps you look like someone who cannot comprehend what was written. We've been through this elaine . Come on, you have the spreadsheet, you know I am prior military (although you did point out that my service and experience are invalid), and my son is a military dependent of an active duty service member. I didn't say a single negative word to, or about Ashley. Nah, you really do just sound like an ass. And mean. Maybe you should rethink your words. We all comprehend just fine -- this time it's you.

I feel quite differently about your post, and that’s all that really matters. Reading it this morning felt like a punch in the gut. I'm sorry you had to read her vileness this morning, the intent of her words is perfectly clear and it's hurtful. I'm sending you a huge squishy hug and all the good thoughts I can muster.

I’m shocked (!) fantastic Canadian single payer didn’t recommend, require and pay for it? Whuuuttttt? While I recognize I am being an ass, I can’t help but find it slightly interesting that Canadian healthcare isn’t quite up to American standards. Funny enough- I can go get the vaccine series tomorrow. Using my insanely expensive Blue Cross Blue Shield healthcare. For like $40. My son on the other hand... could go get it for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE using Tricare Prime, in 4 months. You don't understand Canadian healthcare at all. Healthcare is provided to the taxpayer at no additional cost, however, if there are drug costs outside of the hospital umbrella, those do cost the taxpayer as there isn't a national pharmacy care plan. In Ontario, OHIP covers you in hospital, doctor's office, medical testing such as MRI, CT, US, bloodwork and other similar. Drugs are covered while in a hospital setting, but not "outside" the hospital setting. Many people have additional private or group health benefits, either with their job or they purchase on their own, to cover pharmacy costs of drugs, eye health, physio health and such. This is an additional expense, either paid by the employer through a tax benefit or private payment by the individual. To make it even more "interesting", OHIP will pay for pharmacy needs for those 25 and under, provided that they don't have private health benefits. Once they reach 26, they are on their own. There are other benefits if a person is on "Ontario Works" and in other situations. NOT SO SIMPLE And yes, you are being an ASS to ashley She needs support and not ignorance from people. Google is your friend if you really want to know what is covered and what isn't in the Canadian Health care system.

I feel hugged — thank you!! And I feel much more optimistic today. I totally forgot that anaesthetic always makes me weepy and emotional for few hours afterwards, have no idea why but it does. Today doesn’t feel hopeless. I can do this, and I will! And I must say, it has been quite humbling to recognize how many people care about the state of my vagina. lol!!

My son on the other hand... could go get it for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE using Tricare Prime, in 4 months. wow, no need to be an asshole And here’s the thing... your mocking of my situation is not targeting our health care system, you’re making fun of my place in life right now. You have private insurance to cover the cost of your vaccine. Here in Ontario, all boys and girls under the age of 12 receive the vaccines fully covered for cost, at school. And any woman with a cervix 26 years old or younger can receive the vaccine fully covered with no out of pocket cost. These are all fully covered by our tax-funded health care system. I currently do not have private insurance (like you currently do) because my life has been in utter upheaval for the past two years. I HAD private insurance (for about $50/month) through my old job, which covered prescriptions, eyewear, and therapies. But I had to leave that job 2.5 years ago when my alcoholic ex husband was out of control and I could no longer tolerate sharing a home with him, so I kicked him out. And I’ve spent the past year getting on my feet — going back to school for a much better career, buying myself my own first car, learning to take care of an entire house and four children completely on my own — so I didn’t have private insurance through work benefits like I’ve had in the past. Now I’m starting a new career and waiting for a permanent job offer. And I won’t have benefits and insurance for at least three months after that job offer is finalized. So my health care system has taken pretty good care of me. In the past year I’ve have three ultrasounds, one X-ray, three Pap smears, two colposcopies, two biopsies, a LEEP surgery, and no less than a vat of bloodwork performed. And even without private insurance, I have not had to pay one cent out of pocket for any of that care. No co-pays, nothing. So can take your privilege of being in a place in life in which YOU can afford private insurance and you can go shove it up your fucking cervix!! Ahhh no. I'm not mocking your place in life. Sorry if you felt that way, but no. I do pay for my insurance. My Obamacare bronze plan that doesn't pay a single, solitary, red cent for anything that isn't considered preventative. So no- the vaccine wouldn't be free for me today, as I am over 26. I'd actually have to pay to go see the doctor, then pay for the vaccine (out of pocket.) I pay about $175 a month for that. Not one aspirin is covered. Or a hangnail or anything, at all. I pay extra for my eye coverage, dental etc. For just me. My son is on his dad's insurance, for now. 10 years ago I paid less than $20 a check for great healthcare. Same employer. My how things have changed while the American public admires single payer. So God forbid my "fucking cervix" is a problem because, believe me, it will cost me a minimum of $5000 out of pocket before insurance pays for anything- at all. I've also had a shitty day, so going to take my lack of compassion bitchy self and go away before I actually say something mean.

Come on, you have the spreadsheet, you know I am prior military (although you did point out that my service and experience are invalid), and my son is a military dependent of an active duty service member. I didn't say a single negative word to, or about Ashley. Huh. My boys had both their shots of Gardisil at our convenience when we were at Walter Reed for other appointments. No waiting, no appointments, no bogging down. We just went over to the immunizations clinic after other appointment was done. If you have military experience, you know that MTFs have a separate immunization lab (although sometime connected to the regular body fluid lab), and for most vaccines, you don’t need a referral - you just go at your convenience and tell them what you need and they give it to you. I have no idea who you are. I don’t know that you have any connection to the military. I figured your son must have just joined and had some weird waiting period, because there isn’t any waiting for appointments here for any vaccines - except maybe something exotic. I can walk into Walter Reed, Ft. Belvoir, Fairfax Health Clinic, or any other MTF in the area and get the vaccines I and my kids need for free - at my convenience - no appointments and the only waiting is for the people ahead of me in line to be served first. Although, I just got both my Shingrix vaccines at Walgreens (because it is much closer) - 2 months apart - no waiting, no appointments, no referrals. And the whole family got our flu shots there this year - again, no waiting, no appointments. And you know how much it cost us? It was FREEEEEEEEE! as you like to say. You know who paid for it? Single-payer healthcare Tricare Prime. We didn’t pay a dime, didn’t file any paperwork - Walgreens took care of it on their end. I don’t know where you get your info about Tricare Prime from and how it works, because it certainly doesn’t match the actual experience. Especially around vaccinations. So, again, your misinformed gloat supports single payer healthcare. And one could make the case that it should be available to everyone, since you have to pay a co-pay for your shots and pay, as you say, high premiums - we get them all as quickly as we want, but didn’t pay a dime out of pocket. You are clearly the one with the spreadsheet. I don’t remember you, and I don’t care to if this is how you behave on a support thread. I continue to be embarrassed for you.

Is that so? Yet on another thread you referred to me as "I'd think she was a bot, if she didn't participate in other threads." You're quite funny. I don't live on or near a military installation. My son doesn't drive. And I am a productive member of society and have to work. We don't live near family. We live in a heavily congested area of the northeast and the nearest installation has a 9-5 TMC. Immunizations by appointment, and one day a month. They cater to Reservists. It is 22 miles away (which equates to an hour an a half each way, in good traffic.) Humana requires exceptions when inside 25 miles to use alternative care. Therefore we have to get referrals to go closer to home. Inconvenience aside, most physicians in this area are backed up for months for preventive appointments, his primary care doc is no exception. I also think in your sneer and haste to designate me as uninformed you seem to have forgotten your experience isn't the standard experience. Not everyone has all the hours in the day and MTF's at their disposal. Must be nice to be a dependent. Thank you for your examples of covered, timely, preventative vaccines (as you used in your examples) being administered. I don't have a co-pay for my covered, timely, preventative vaccines either. Let's keep it apples to apples. And noise is noise. Ya'll want to stop discussing this on this tread, then quit provoking. No need to be embarrassed on my behalf, I'm quite fine with myself, and you are the last person I would want representing me.

So why are you criticizing the very good health care I’ve received, when the care I’ve been given here I would not be able to afford in the US, even if I could afford the insurance that you pay for??? I was clearly unaware of the laundry list of other procedures and testing you've had performed. Perhaps that may help you to see that I am not in any way criticizing the health care *you* received, because I don't know what you have had. That said. With my crappy insurance, once it tops $5000 in a year (I gambled with the bronze, which never existed until Obamacare because I can't afford a higher plan) all would be covered. Believe me, I don't see this as a good thing. I live in the United States and constantly hear about how great Canada's single payer is. That everything is covered and it is far superior to our health care. Yet, I work in healthcare and find it interesting how many folks come from Canada (and other single payer countries), to here to have procedures and treatments done, for various reasons because they either can't get it done at home in a timely manner, at all, or the outcomes aren't as favorable. I find it laughable (not you, not your situation, not your worries) that so many Americans seem to think that single payer is the way to go, when the only single payer health care providers that interface with are riddled with fat, neglect, inefficiency and overhead. Tricare Prime (via Humana) and the VA.

You don't remember me? You can go to your local drugstore for standard vaccines - if you read my post - and Tricare Prime will pay for it. Or do you not have drugstores or Targets or grocery stores with pharmacies that also dispense vaccines where you live? No trip to a MTF needed. Again, single payer healthcare is pretty wonderful that way.

I never once, EVER said that I had difficulty getting my kid a vaccine. I make the wellness appointments super far in advance and they get done when the are supposed to get done. There is no reason to have to wait 4 months for an appointment, however. Regardless, I'm over arguing with you today. Please leave me the fuck alone.
