Choose your own card challenge adventure:Did you like those books where you were given options at the end of each chapter? I have some choices for you, to create the card challenge that you need today. Choose the option that challenges you the most or speaks to you more. Or do it all, like I did today! I needed to get back to card making after a break, so I did almost all of these things, just to play. If you're counting points take a point for each choice that you do. The basic plan is simple - stamp (heat emboss, if you want) on colored cardstock, color it in, then put it on/make it into a card with a sentiment. Choose which option you prefer at each stage along the way (sometimes you can do both): Use a brand new stamp/die that you bought over the holidays
AND/OR
Use a stamp/die that you’ve had for ages and haven’t used forever (or ever)
Stamp/emboss a bunch of examples to play with, especially if you usually just stamp one at a time
OR
If you usually stamp several options (to make it worth your while to get the supplies out) just stamp/emboss and few today. Give yourself permission to stop and get started on coloring one or two. I was going to do far more, twice as many stamps and colors, but I decided to stop.
Try a coloring method/technique that’s new to you and/or daring/risky - I used Tombow markers to watercolor. And then I played with bleach. I dare you to try painting bleach on colored cardstock!
AND/OR
Play it really safe and use tone on tone coloring - choose a color that’s almost the same as the cardstock. Embrace the subtlety.
Put a tiny little sentiment on the front
AND/OR
Just add a sentiment inside insteadI stamped butterflies from PinkFresh Studio’s Forever in our Hearts (benefiting NICU families, it’s a stamp set designed for infant loss sympathy cards with really beautiful sentiments) and The Ton’s Transformation stamp, both brand new to me. I used sentiments from The Ton set and from an old SSS Kind stamp. I stamped and embossed a few butterflies on colored cardstock, each in white and clear. I used a denim blue marker on the clear embossed butterfly and then freaked out because it was darker than I expected, so I moved the color with a water brush. I love the indigo it created. On the white embossed butterfly I went very subtle with a pale lavender marker that was barely darker than the cardstock. I got the idea from Kate Deignan on IG. Her post inspired most of today's play. I didn’t look up any instructions for the bleach - I just experimented. Beautiful card, joblackford, and it’s a great challenge. I will probably stick to one of your simpler choices, like using a new stamp set, but I love all the options available.

This is a really great challenge joblackford. This brings back memories when we used bleach to stamp on colored cardstock. Can't wait to have some time and play. You're cards are beautiful and that butterfly is absolutely stunning. |

Ideally either a brand new image or something from an old set you haven’t used in ages stamped on colored cardstock. Every step is optional though. You can take a point (or a virtual gold star) for every choice you make, or just use something here as a jumping off point and do your own thing. I’m a very easy-going challenger. And if you don’t want to use colored cardstock (maybe that’s not a challenge for you) but you wanted to do other elements of the challenge you’re still welcome to play along. |

I made all the different options (I think). I really liked the bleach coloring. I tried the bleach pen ,but i didnt see a huge difference, maybe because it's old. So then I just got my other bleach and that worked great. For the shade coloring used my alchohol marker a dark blue and light gray. If I do this again I would just use different shades of gray. azcrafty, those blue on blue flowers are GORGEOUS! As I was cleaning out my nest here, I discovered a very large TH stamp I have never used. I think I will try to use it with this challenge. Will attempt to use it with alcohol ink and yupo and alcohol lift ink. Haven't used this technique in awhile--not since I acquired the ink last year. Don't think I will get to it today, so my task is not to lose the stamp again before I use it. Organizing is hazardous!

I used the bleach pen gel because I had that handy - I have no idea about the best ways to do bleach coloring/discharge but it looks like you found a good method that worked for you. It's interesting to try the tone on tone colorings and see which ones look good with which embossing. Experimenting is always fun, IMO. I love all of the cards you made. |

I made a valentine, using a really old stamp, this heart with little swirls around it. I stamped in pink and black on polka dot cardstock. I used the latest sketch from Mojo Monday, which I thought was really fun. Great challenge!! Edited to add, I cannot for the life of me figure out why my card is sideways, and then when you click on it, it rights itself. Sigh.  |

Love all the subtle little elements and the pink/brown palette on your card @kendramage! Nice play between the large and small patterns of the papers, the lace, the stamping. Looks very elegant. Mine is done, joblackford, but I won't be sharing it for awhile. Didn't turn out quite the way I had planned, but I loved working with the positive and negative of my stamped image. |

@kendramage yay for using a really old stamp! I love the color scheme. I should take a look at sketches more often - they’re such a great place to start and I might remember to add some extra touches (like your pretty doily border and the twine) if I start from a sketch. joblackford . I left love in Flickr for your amazing cards. azcrafty , your beautiful roses make gorgeous cards. Each is so different and all are lovely. I love the use of the clorox. @kendramage , the combination of pinks and browns are so pretty. I love the vintage look on that font. Your patterned paper is perfect. I hope to do this challenge a little later. My stamps supply and inks/markers are very limited and I’ll have to do some thinking. I may go borrow some stamps from my Card Club friend who is a great stamper.

My intention was for this to be a use what you've got challenge so if you have anything that will work for tone on tone coloring, whether it's a floral stamp or a word or something small that's repeated, it's all good. Of course if borrowing something would make it easier to make a card you can actually USE, then of course! Whatever works for you. I only have a couple of inks that I use for stamping (basically black and versamark with 3 embossing powders) and not a great set of markers/colored pencils/paints either, which is partly why I wanted to experiment this way |

I was able to complete a card for this challenge! My original intent was to stamp this and then color it with all my shimmer pens... but that wasn't gonna work based largely in part on me greatly misremembering the colors I had. So, I used one of my newest stamp sets-- "Folk Hummingbird" from Pinkfresh. It's hard to tell (because my photo skills need work), but I stamped on PTI spring moss paper. Then I colored in the hummingbird with various shades of green. I used my clear shimmer brush on its chest, wingtips, and tail, and then used a different shimmer brush to color the flowers before adding the sentiment. Matted on some dark gray cardstock and a darker green card.  And then I added sequins. One thing I learned about coloring on colored CS with copics-- after you're done coloring, get up and take like a 20 minute break. The ink changes color as it dries (which I should have known, because I constantly have to remind myself to come back later even when I color on white paper). Anyway, I liked my green card so much I made a blue and pink one, too (and should have made one in purple but wasn't thinking). I like them more in person-- I don't think my photos do them much justice.   |

Eddie-n-Harley they’re lovely cards! I love that you kept going and experimented with different colors. I’m sure they’re even more beautiful in person. It can be so hard to get colors to represent properly in photos.

finally got done. I used kraft cardstock and stamped directly on it. Colored with pencils, which I'm not comfortable with at all. I'm not sure I like how waxy it looks when it's done but i think the card is still pretty cute. I stamped 2 panels but almost immediately effed one up with the colored pencils.  Also used a tiny sentiment on the front. I used a Hello Bluebird set that I just got a couple weeks ago. for the non-challenge elements, I used a brick die from mft to create a stencil out of some plastic I had on hand. I masked the images, then I used makeup brushes with distress oxide to blend ink for the bricks, then did a plain mantel looking thing at the top using distress oxide and some masking. I messed up the sentiment  so I fixed it by restamping it and cutting out the messed up part and putting it on top. This was a real head-scratcher of a challenge to meet most of the points so thank you for making me think a little bit.   |

It looks like you did every part of the challenge and then some and I would never have known the sentiment was a goof. I thought you were just way fancier with sentiments that I tend to be. But as they say there are no mistakes, only design opportunities. The card is adorable. I need to make myself a brick stencil for a hanging stockings card too. It’s a great look. I have obviously missed a lot! az crafty, those are beautiful cards, and you have a nice variety using the same stamp. kendramage, that is a lovely Valentine. Whoever receives it ought to love it. Eddie-n-Harley, I really like the adaptations in the coloring of your hummingbird. The sequins are a nice touch, too. gale w, that is a very cute Christmas card. I really like how you used the die to make a stencil. That brick background is subtle, but it really caught my eye. I finished this a few days ago, but I am just now posting it here. I combined two brand new stamp sets from My Favorite Things. I used a tone on tone coloring for the kissing booth. I colored the hat and chaps of the little cowboy using sponge daubers, which is definitely not my usual way of coloring stamps like these. I also used the sponge daubers for applying the tone on tone coloring for the kissing booth. I decided that the small sign (Kisses 5 cents) was enough for the sentiment. After I glued it down, I did wish that I had done something else for the background rather than a solid color, but it was too late at that point. Patterned papers had just looked too busy.  |

Not sure if I met ANY of the challenge requirements, but I was inspired by those bleach stamped butterflies for justjac’s bd card. I dropped and blended alcohol ink on yupo then stamped it with Lift Ink to transfer the positive image to CD for the front panel. I used the yupo with the negative image for the piece behind it. Made this the week of the challenge but just gave the card to her yesterday.  |

grammadee that’s so cool! And I see why you had to wait to share. I’m glad you were inspired. That’s the idea, right? Jumping off points to take us all to totally different places. How do you like working with the alcohol inks and lift off. I skipped that release, as tempting as it was. I’m not such a fan of wet stuff, and I already gave away alcohol inks once. But the lift off thing is really cool. also, those colors!!

Probably not exactly what you had in mind, but I embossed both white and black ink on kraft paper. The stamp is one of the first my girls bought while in High School. I used the only pens I had to add red to the heart. I didn't like the white embossing at all so didn't turn it into a card. I do like the black embossing however and like the card. Thanks joblackford for the challenge. I am such a klutz that I'd never use bleach in this room. LOL  |
