What's everyone using for PL? I know I have a lot of old cards but I would like to add a sub in for some freshness kwim? I know there is SC DK,Cocoa Daisy, Citrus Twist, Elle's Studio, FYC ? Thoughts? I just signed up (after a 2 year break) to SC documenter kit. I finished my entire January spread over the weekend using just that kit and some white card stock for stamping. I feel rejuvenated about this project. I do have a large back log of older cards to pull from if needed.

I have done my cover page and week 1. Week 2 we were on vacation and I was in a wedding, so I'm waiting for the professional photos to come back because I know I want to include some of those. I should just skip it and do the weeks after, but I don't have a ton of photos because I was super sick (had the flu) the next week. I'm considering doing something like Amy Gretchen's recent sick spread (it's on her youtube). So far I'm not worried about being a couple weeks "behind" though, I like to work a little later and have my journaling up to date in my Day One app.
I'm still happy with my plan to do 12x12 weekly, but I've been doing that since 2016 so I wasn't expecting to change my mind about it.
I am still working through 2019 and my plan is to go back and forth between the two projects until 2019 is caught up. I seem to be doing well on this, but what I have trouble with (not just switching years but in general) is making sure I still work on traditional pages. I tend to want to catch up project life before doing traditional pages and I need to realize that if I do that I will never get my traditional pages created! So, so far this year I've made an effort to work on traditional pages even though project life is behind. It's been difficult to not want to just do the project life (it's not that I don't enjoy the traditional pages, they are just less "quantifiable" because I can do as many or as few as I want and an album still seems complete... the PL is easy to feel "behind") but I'm working on it!
I'd love tips if anyone has any for balancing crafty time between traditional pages/project life/other scrapbooking projects.

So Any ideas on embellishing my sunrise/sunset page? Lol I actually love that you enjoy your daily walks with the pooch so much that you take pictures during it. Maybe it would be a fun year-long project to document how your walks change through the seasons? Shoes during winter versus summer, plants and flowers your dog smells, maybe a picture taken at the same time once a month to see how the light increases and decreases during the year? Is there a spot with a reflective surface to take a me-with-my-dog selfie in several times (wearing a raincoat and umbrella, wearing a summer dress, wearing a thick sweater, and so on). You can also practice silhouette portraits of your dog's profile against the sunset. Sounds like you could have a lot of fun with this. Pictures of us? We are barely out of pajamas hence the sunrise pictures lol. Sunset maybe. But I take a sunrise pic at least 1x a week more often in the winter obviously since sunrise is later. So those often find their way into my planner but I did a PL page of them in January. Maybe a monthly insert with the best ones? ( and by best I don’t always mean best sunrise lol sometimes it’s best for another reason, like when the local swans have babies )

Anyone working on albums this weekend? After a long work week, I'm rewarding myself with some time to scrap on a snowy, cold day. I'm working on December 2018 (better late than never). One of my biggest struggles is not spending For.Ev.Er. on a single page. So today I'm setting a time limit per page, then moving on to the next one. Hoping this will force me to make decisions faster rather than agonizing over the right paper or embellishment. Recently I looked back through albums when my kids were smaller (they are now 13 and 16), and I'm so glad that I took the time to make the albums. That gives me some motivation to keep doing this. What's everyone using for PL? I know I have a lot of old cards but I would like to add a sub in for some freshness kwim? I know there is SC DK,Cocoa Daisy, Citrus Twist, Elle's Studio, FYC ? Thoughts? I have subbed to Elle's before, but find it generally not my style as she uses a lot of white space. However, I love the journaling tags and alphas. I currently have a Cocoa Daisy subscription ... mostly I'm collecting CD as I haven't actually *used* it yet. One of last year's themes was about books, and I plan to do some pages using that kit because reading is my favorite form of self-care. CD is very "extra" as my kids say - almost the opposite of Elle's.

I would be sad if this year was empty on my shelf, and I certainly will have many photos come April when I have our first kid. But the thought of keeping up with scrapbooking with an infant when I can’t even do it right now (with work and other life stuff) just seems incredibly daunting. I hope that you are pleasantly surprised. I actually got more sewing and scrapping done with a newborn than I did at any other time in my life. A lot of people will probably tell you to sleep when the baby sleeps, but I never did that - I was always too excited about having time to myself, I wasn't going to waste it by sleeping! And presumably you won't have work (as in paid work) to get in the way of scrapping. Fingers crossed for you! As for my 2020 PL.... ugh, I haven't even decided on a format yet. I am trying to decide whether to stick with the digital templates I was using for 2019, or whether to simplify it and use the digital PL templates. I bought a couple the other week to play with, and to see whether I like them. But before that, I should probably finish 2019. I've only done about 9 weeks. My babies too a two hour morning nap, a three to four hour afternoon nap and almost 12 hours at night. They were like puppies. I wasn't scrapping then though.

I try to keep up with printing photos and putting them in photo pages that hold 4x6 photos. I use the WRMK 3 ring albums. One album per year. I journal on post it notes and index cards and throw them in with the photos. That way at least I can enjoy the photos in the albums until I have time to scrap. I just insert my 12x12 pages between the photo pages when I scrap one. I started doing it this way when DS was about 9 months old and I hadn't printed any photos. I didn't really have any time to scrap until he was 2. I finally have most of 2018 scrapped, some of 2019, and most of our 2016 trip to Disney. DS is now 4. So basically record what you can in photos and journaling, then worry about putting it all together later.

I’m doing PL very casually. 12x12, a variety of page protectors, but mostly the standard BH Design A. I am not doing ig week by week, more of a flowing monthly thing. January took 5 pages, so 2.5 “spreads” (I’m always unsure of how to describe layouts). February will probably be only 2, maybe 3 pages. I don’t care one month shares the backside of a pp with the prior month, but I will try to avoid having a month switch in the middle of a page.
I used to be a stickler for the week by week thing, and labeling each spread with the week #, etc. But I fell way behind a couple years ago and when I tried to catch up I found I was often short on photos to fill in a full spread with one week of pics. So I was forced to evolve, which was sooooo challenging for me - I felt like I was doing it wrong (lol). But now I really enjoy the more casual approach and it’s so nice to not feel stressed about keeping up a specific timeline. Doing it this way means I’m filling one album per year, rather than two (which I quite appreciate).

Thoughts? I do one 12x12 pocket page per week and add in some additional pages if we do a trip or there is a special reason. I have finished full albums since 2015. I just finished the rest of 2019 this past weekend. I found that, in addition to "real" pocket cards, I like to use it as a way to use my 6x6 paper stash. I like to use the 6x6 papers for layouts as I know that a collection will match well. I often add in the embellishments of the collection.

Stuff of PL: I haven't had an earworm like this in months. I keep hearing this song play in my head randomly through the day. My fave musical pop release of the year so far. And yes, I'm totally going to add a screenshot to my PL.

Ha I have been ‘stuck’ on PL because I couldn’t find a page arrangement I liked for a specific set of pics but I found several packs of 9x12 PP and I can use or alter one of those. I’m thinking I’ll just use it whole and use a black base and then make a block layout because I think the page behind will be full 9x12, but we’ll see. Thankfully my creativity is coming back
It’s not the easiest format if you printed your pictures without a page already planned. I think I said that already but I’m having small problems adjusting into this style. But at other times I find it so much easier I don’t know what causes the difference I’m either plowing on at a pretty speedy pace or I’m completely stalled and ‘paralyzed’

But at other times I find it so much easier I don’t know what causes the difference I’m either plowing on at a pretty speedy pace or I’m completely stalled and ‘paralyzed’ I think once you've been doing it for awhile you get used to printing photos without planning spreads and it works. I used to plan them all out in a sketch, use various page protector styles, and then print my photos as needed. That just became too much of a headache. For the past few years I have just used Design A page protectors (with a few exceptions for inserts, but that is not typical) and just print horizontal photos 4x6 and vertical photos 3x4. I do weekly so I just try to print 6-7 4x6 photos and 2-5 3x4 photos and then figure out the layout after they're printed. It's so much more relaxed and works for me. Occasionally I feel like getting extremely creative (usually with hybrid scrapbooking) and will plan a page in advance, but not having to do it every week really takes the pressure off.
I'm sure as you get used to this style you will figure out what works for you... but if you're having trouble with it one way, I would suggest trying something else. That's one of the great things about project life... there’s always another spread so if you don't like how one went, just flip the page and continue! In the end, they sum of everything will still look amazing.

Thank you for the encouragement I think my problem is that 97% of my pictures are on my phone, and I rarely remember to turn my phone sideways so pictures are normally vertical. Great, use vertical PP and your set right? Except when I do remember to turn my phone it usually for an important picture that deserves to be larger than a 3x4. Lol But it’s not often enough to carry 4 4x6 horizontal pockets. Yes, I’ll get used to the format I hope. I just didn’t expect this much of an adjustment. Just need to train myself to think when I print photos

I likely won't do anything with them for awhile, but you never know...

Also looking forward to Spring Break where I will have a week off from teaching to craft like a maniac.

I spent some time yesterday working on my 2020 PL album, and have one more page to finish for February. I’m happy to be almost caught up. Last year I finished through mid-February, then stopped and never did go back to it. I realized that regardless of the fact that I am usually the only one who sees my pages (Dh and Ds might have the occasional brief look), doing the album makes ME happy, so I am going to try and keep up this year. I do monthly event-driven pocket pages, and use everything from BH rounded corner cards (I have a ton) to older SC and Gossamer Blue (sob...) partial kit leftovers.

I've been doing quite ok on the pocket part of my album, but I'm definitely slipping behind on the 12x12 facing pages. I've printed photos and added them to the empty page protectors so when I'm feeling it I'll come back and work on those. So far though I'm enjoying pulling out some of the lesser used pocket page configurations I own and actually getting them into an album.

One of my go-tos when I have a vertical pic that needs to fit in a 4x6 horizontal space is try to crop it to a square 4x4. Then back it up with a spare journal card, cardstock, or pattern paper. The extra white s space this leaves usually looks just fine, and sometimes even helps tone down the spread, if there’s a lot of busyness going on in the photos. Adversely, it can be a little extra space for some stamping or to squeeze in a cute embellishment.
If the photo can’t be cropped to a square without losing something in the photo, printing it vertically 3x4. Sometimes this smaller pic will go in a 3x4 pocket, intended for a journal card, but I’ll often just back it up with a filler to put it a 4x6 pocket.
Don’t tell BH I’m doing it wrong.

Hi!
I’m doing this! I’m actually doing this! And I’m really enjoying it!
My last attempt at a PL album was way back in 2014 and I made it to June that year. I’ve left scrapbooking behind the past few years but I’ve been trying to get back into it for a while. I knew I wanted to do a PL album this year so I was planning on using the 12x12 albums and Design A page protectors that I have in my stash although I was really admiring Ali’s 9x12 album. When she made her blog post of her 2019 PL album overview, I fell in love with it and decided to go all in on this size. Got the 9x12 album and a couple extra then got various styles of page protectors. I just got my new supplies a couple weeks ago!
I made a title page last week and today I’ve finished a two page layout for January. I can’t believe how easily it came together for me. I focused on photos and left a few open spots for stories. I haven’t really used any product at all. Maybe that’s why it’s easy going so far. I used a couple of cards from the Home Story Kit (AE). The only thing that I wish I had that I don’t, is a card that has the name of the month on it. I need a January card! I have boxes full of stamps and I only have two sets that have months on them and they are super tiny. I’d like to figure something out so that I don’t end up subscribing to her other monthly kit, Stories By the Month. I’m afraid that kit has everything I want if I’m going to do my album by monthly layouts. I really don’t want to commit to a subscription though.
I also ordered from Persnickety for the first time to get a 9x12 print. It looks fabulous in the album! Other than that, I’m printing from home with my little Epson printer and a Canon printer. I’m using the app Print To Size for getting all my photos the size I need for printing. I can’t believe how easy the app is to use. I heard about it from someone here on the GS board. 😊

Found this thread and thought I'd check in again - I started the year strong and then took a longgggggggg pause while trying to just get my head in a better headspace with COVID/quarantine/etc. etc. Started back up again in August but have a ton in-between to catch up on. I can't possibly be the only one... right?? How's everyone's PL albums going this year?

I didn't realise this was an older thread when I opened it but I think it's a good time for a check in. I've been keeping up with my album much better than I expected. Normally when doing a weekly version I run out of steam about now and then have to do a massive catch up session of several weeks at once, but with the constantly changing covid news and no ability to really go anywhere, I'm not only reasonably caught up but still really enjoying the process.

I do ‘Project Life’ slightly differently that I don’t scrap weekly or monthly, I only scrap on an event basis - whether that’s a birthday, a trip away, a visit to my parents etc. 2019 was a big year for me with a wedding, a honeymoon, three additional weekend vacations and a bachelorette party abroad. I did very little scrapbooking last year because of how busy we were but I did start and finish one of my honeymoon albums. This year will be about scrapbooking last year and I’m really chuffed that this month I’ve managed to complete my second honeymoon album. One more to go! What I’ve decided to do for 2020 is I will eventually scrap 2020s happenings - I’m hoping to do it alongside my 2019 documenting - but I’m keeping a list on Evernote on my phone of the events after they have happened that I want to make sure I include in my album for 2020. Taking the photos, backing them up and writing down that I want to include them in an album is all I’m expecting of myself right now whilst I finish other projects. Hope everyone else is making baby steps of progress if nothing else Little did I know that in a few months after post, I would catch up on all my 2019 albums, and be pretty much caught up for 2020. I really thought I would be drowning in things to document, but COVID-19 quarantine/lockdown gave me chance to catch up on everything. I will consider it a blessing in that way. I'm ready to document travels again!
