I don't really understand exactly what is being promoted here but I do know I cannot be associated with this. I've been here 20 years and have learned a lot. I don't visit the BH thread normally, but found this and after much prayer, I won't be here anymore. Thank you, ladies.

I can't recommend going to listen to him speak enough if you can. Anyone is welcome. This is absolutely *not* for members of the Satanic Temple. If you value humanism, you'll find a kindred soul in Greaves. If you can't but are still interested to hear what he has to say, don't hesitate to look him up on YouTube. If you've heard about the lawsuits initiated by the Satanic Temple but don't really understand the why or how of those, I recommend his The Satanic Temple and the Law talk at the University of Chicago Law School (Hobby Lobby mention!). In this talk, Lucien talks about mental health (dissociative identity disorder, repressed memories and how licensed mental health professionals contributed to the Satanic Panic that happened in Canada an the US in the 1980S as well as discredited mental health therapies still practiced today). If you have no clue about the Satanic Temple, here's a decent, short introduction. |

Live and let live. If BH lectured less and created more, this thread wouldn’t be 100+ pages. I’m a lapsed, agnostic Catholic, married to a believing Catholic, and mother to an atheist. If you read about this group you’ll see they are using “satanism” to make a point about separating religion from areas that should be secular. I personally think it’s too off putting to really make religious folk open to their message, but it’s their message, not mine.
But, I understand if you feel you can’t participate in this thread any longer.
ETA: by “this thread” I mean the BH thread.

I hope OP also writes to Utah Valley University to let them know they can't be associated with the event. Kind of have to wonder what the purpose of starting a new thread and quoting me is? Would've made more sense to leave their interrogation in the BH thread where the discussion was happening but I guess this generates more drama, especially for someone who claims they "normally don't visit the BH thread."  |

But I guess that's just not clear to some despite my explanations + links in the BH thread. 🤷 One more time for the people in the back before they run away from the board leaving Satanic panic threads in their wake: For those interested in the Satanic panic hysteria from the 1980s and early 1990s, the new season of Uncover, a great podcast from CBC Radio, deals with the polarising story of Martensville, Saskatchewan. Maybe it's the atheist in me speaking, and I mean no disrespect at all to those who believe (truly), but I feel like if you need to say some prayers in order to decide if you want to use a message board or not after reading a post about the Satanic Temple then maybe you need to look into yourself and find a healthier way to practice your religion. Like... a hobby or something. What happened to live and let live, or love thy neighbor? Turn the other cheek?
