There's a name I can't find in the search, someone who didn't post a lot, and I'm guessing it's her. She's a very nice person, religious minded, and I'm guessing she was just upset enough to let us know why she had to leave the board. I don't think it was finger-wagging so much as her just trying to express her reasons. I hope you'll go easy on her. If it really is the person I'm thinking of, she must have been very upset at what she saw initially (the word satan) and didn't bother to read enough of it to learn what the post (or the recommended speaker) was about.

I really think it's the person I'm thinking of, not Tracie, and not someone's minion or alter. If she reads this, I'm sorry she found the post disturbing and I wish the best for her.

Totally irrelevant to the rest of the thread, but thanks for the link. I've just downloaded 2 seasons of Uncover to listen to on my long flight later this week.

Looks like it was @elaynef link I do recall going back to this thread a few times, it was fun to see the valentines cards that were shared.

I don't recall her specifically (which is most likely what everyone would say about me 😂) and it's too bad she she felt she had to leave over something that I think was intended to be more of a joke? But I respect her values if she felt so strongly about it.

Lawd have mercy, I am going to have to go find whatever tea I missed out on.

So, since the existence of this thread and the very public departure of a Pea is due to a message I posted, I thought I'd clarify a few things. We've mostly had a laugh at the situation and I certainly tried to keep things lighthearted when I realised what was happening because it felt like the best response. It was fun to go crazy with the sockpuppet speculations and bug talk (if you follow the Becky Higgins thread, you'll know why we simply *had* to drag Tracie into this  ). However, I feel it important to point a few things:

1. Contrary to what's been recently expressed here, I did NOT post about the An Evening With Satan event featuring Lucien Greaves, head and spokesperson of the Satanic Temple, at Utah Valley University as a joke. I was sharing an event that could be of interest to some regular participants in the Becky Higgins thread who live in Utah and have voiced opinions that made me think this event could be right up their alley. I was passing along information in the appropriate discussion in case someone there might want to pick up a free ticket and spend an afternoon listening to an intelligent, well-spoken humanist. I promoted his talk as an act of sharing.



2. The raison d'être of this thread is an act of Satanic panic. Clearly, the former member of this board panicked when they read someone was  promoting something by the Satanic Temple. If you remember the mass hysteria around this in the 1980s and early 1990s, let me promote the current season of Uncover, an investigative podcast by CBC Radio, once again. Uncover is a consistenly great podcast. I can't recommend it enough. I've listened to every season and there wasn't a single dud. Quality journalism, great storytelling and giving a voice to the victims. It's respectful and not voyeuristic. (By the way, safe flight and happy listening, sueg !)

3. If your interest has been piqued by the whole Satanic Temple mention that caused this very public exit thread, I highly recommend Hail Satan?, the documentary movie about the movement that was released last year and presented at Sundance. Great news for Americans about it being available on Hulu, thanks for letting us know, artisticscrapper . This nontheistic religious group is still very young (established 2013) but has done a lot in those 7 years of existence. In an ever-polarising world (particularly in the US), their actions and mission are not only important but essential. They aren't rebels without a cause or mere provocateurs with too many pots of paint and too much time on their hands. The choice to adopt Satan as their symbol isn't gratuitous or for pure shock factor value either: it is a Judeo-Christian symbol that carries weight for them (most members grew up in a Christian family, almost all in a Christian value-dominated landscape). 



4. I'm not exactly known for biting my tongue. I am rather outspoken and very well aware of that. However, I didn't mean to stir trouble or to mock anyone('s religion) with my promotion of An Evening With Satan. I simply thought one of the Utah-based regulars in the BH thread might actually want to snap up a free ticket and go listen to a fellow humanist (granted, dressed in black head to toe). I was listening to one of my favourite podcasts hosted by ex-Mormons who promoted the event which they are sponsoring, remembered I knew some ladies online who live in Utah and could be interested, shared it the very same day. That's all. There was no big deal about it (or so I thought). Now that it has turned in a thread of its own, I wish to emphasise my initial goal and clarify that I was being serious, that the work the Satanic Temple is doing is very serious and important and that Satanic panic still exists, clearly, as evidenced by the voluntary departure of a Pea at the mere mention of the Satanic Temple. All the more reason for me  to speak up in here and make sure I don't muddy things or cast a flippant shadow over the work the Satanic Temple are doing.

5. If the OP reads this, my clarifications might help them understand. They might also not. Whatever the case, I think I speak for all (or most, I'd hope) when saying that this board is also their home and they can always rejoin if they feel like it. Other Peas have left and returned. If anyone reading this is frightened of anything that mentions Satan (kudos to you for reading and keeping up, by the way), I hope this message helps ease their mind and perhaps see that there's more to it than the idea of a terrifying villain whose name mustn't be spoken. Any foot in the door is an opportunity for the start of broadening one's views and understanding of the world. And I'll take it as a chance to reach out rather than exclude. Know that you're always welcome.

That account didn’t actually leave leave though. That thread was posted 3/2/2020 and now that account just posted early this morning on the enamel dots thread.

The account seems to be renamed ‘ @deleted ‘ ? Which I don’t get because it’s not blue or clickable but nevertheless that account posted today.

It just seems like pot stirring drama in that case
