I went out today to pick up a few things that I needed anyways, but I am shocked at how empty the store shelves are! Costco, Walmart.. It's like something out a movie and frankly a little bit frightening. I'm concerned about the eventual breakdown in the supply chain. When the illness hits North America in full force, workers will stay home, stores will close, store employees will have to stay home, trucking companies, warehouse employees, retail employees, healthcare workers. Will we be able to buy goods? I think that uncertainty is what is driving folks to panic. I really believe it will be ok, but everyone is just scared. That’s exactly what I’m thinking. We are good for a while but if this extends on for a month or two very few have that much stocked up. That and who has that much savings to not work for that long. I’m hoping since we don’t live in such congested areas and the weather is warming up that people will be getting more fresh air and not just inside spreading germs.

I admit: I don’t like hearing all the “we can just have it delivered” responses. What if the delivery people are short-handed because employees are self-quarantining? Or, why should a healthy one (who is probably a low-wage worker anyway) have to sustain risks just because people couldn’t prepare accordingly? Or, what if they *aren’t* healthy, but can’t take time off, and handle all of your groceries before delivering them to your house and 25 other houses? This virus is believed to stay on surfaces much longer than traditional flu viruses, so why would you want to take that risk? This!! I've been having my groceries delivered for well over a year from 3 different stores/delivery companies. The slightest shock to the force (impending snow, not even a storm; holidays; Superbowl) I was unable to get delivery on my typical day. I think the potential of coronavirus could really impact our delivery systems.

Only TP because everyone else is and I don't want to be the one without. Or having to ask neighbors if they can spare a square.
Otherwise we were already prepped for flu season like normal and I picked up a few extra shelf stable items in case we want or need to stay home. Luckily we both work from home, so we can minimize risks quite a bit if we have to.

Went to the Target by my work at lunch time, mainly because I was bored. Lol! Though the paper aisle was picked through, they still had lots of paper on the shelves. The cheaper paper were low in stock, but still, lots to buy. Lots of Clorox wipes, water and bleach available. They had absolutely NO rubbing alcohol though, I was a little surprised at that. I didn’t look for hand sanitizer (don’t know where they are in the store). And, the store was not busy.

nothing. i have 3 shelving units in my basement with laundry detergent, fabric softener, dish soap, tampons, paper towel, toilet paper, shampoo, liquid hand soap, razor blade refills, saran wrap, ziploc bags and foil, apple juice, household cleaner, toothbrushes and toothpaste, canned food (including tuna, alphagetti, etc) and dried pasta and jars of sauce. i buy stuff on sale in multiples and then tuck it away down there so i don't have to pay full price for toilet paper - lol! i do the same thing with my deep freeze. so.... no one here on medication or anything like that... i should be good if quarantined for at least a while. in the interim, i am just on everyone to wash their hands.

It would be so nice to stock up during sales!

My rheumatologist recommended carrying hand sanitizer and using it often while out of the house. Well, that's going to have to wait until stores restock again. I'm normally just a soap and water hand washer and hadn't bought hand sanitizer for my hurricane kit yet this year. Maybe there will be some in stock when DH stops off to pick up prescriptions at Kroger tomorrow evening. I have a couple ounces of Everclear and can probably find aloe vera gel somewhere, so in a pinch...

I had a lot of errands to run yesterday, and I checked in the stores for hand sanitizer (I keep it in the cars year round and use it all the time). I realized when cleaning out the cars this weekend that I was running low. No one in our area had hand sanitizer! Everything else was well stocked. So the only thing people in our area seem to be stocking up on is hand sanitizer. I did see some at the cash register at Dollar Tree when I was checking out.

Went to my Costco today to just look see. Lunchtime. The parking lot was packed. NO toilet paper, limit of 5 on cases of water, no hand sanitizer, no disinfectant wipes. And people wearing masks. Seems normal.

I live in a town next to Kirkland. Folks are posting on our town FB that they can’t schedule their Amazon grocery delivery currently. So, I would not count on “just get it delivered”.

I went shopping on Sunday and needed toilet paper as I just put the last roll on the holder, there was still plenty and I bought my usual 9 roll pack of my favourite brand which lasts me a few months. I didn't give it a second thought. Then I was in Aldi yesterday and the toilet paper shelf was completely bare. 2 days difference! Personally I don't think toilet paper is that much of a big deal, if it comes down to a crisis...you can make do without. Gloves, some old face washers and some water. Not fun, but not impossible to manage. I'm more worried about no kitty litter! Prior to this I already owned hand sanitiser - I have several smaller bottles I keep in various bags for when I'm out and about. So I don't need to buy any of that. I don't think most masks are worthwhile at all, especially not those paper ones, they may give you a short period of protection but once they get damp from your breath they let the germs through anyway. I'm not planning on getting any masks.

I did my normal shopping for the month today (I buy perishables weekly) and didn't buy anything out of the ordinary. Went to Target, Vons, and Smart & Final. No shortage of anything, including hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes, or paper products. I guess Vegas really is a gambling town. I'm just making sure everyone is washing their hands and faces the minute they walk in the door and I don't usually use the cart wipes when I shop, but I did today.

I wasn't too worried. I went to the grocery store yesterday to stock up on our usual after returning from vacation and the only thing empty was sanitizer. Went back today to get a few things I forgot and lots of things were empty. Chicken breasts totally gone---why? sanitizer still gone, cases of water gone. So I wasn't planning on stocking up but ended up doing a full shopping trip as the empty shelves freaked me out. So we are good to go for a few weeks. Hoping the panic slows down.

This virus is believed to stay on surfaces much longer than traditional flu viruses, so why would you want to take that risk? Back to deliveries I just don’t see deliveries for take out and food if this gets bad. I mean in many ways it could be set up safely for them as they don’t have to actually talk to snd collect money from customers. But what if they are ill snd then they are touching stuff and passing on the virus. I thought I read somewhere that it can last up to 9 days heck if it’s even in 24 hours it would be spread pretty easily. So many unknowns at this point. I would love to know more about what was really happening in China, Japan etc. Hearing that factories closed is one thing but what else was closed. How many really self quarantined in their homes and how long. I do not expect anyone to deliver anything to me. The exception would be my medicines which cannot be renewed until April 2nd, although if I am reasonably well I could walk out to my car and drive to pick them up at the drive up window at the pharmacy, I would offer to pay with a credit card over the phone.

By the looks of my house, you’d think I was stocking up on scrapbook kits, clear stamps, and quilting fabric. However, this is my normal supply level.
We did run low on toilet paper and my mil and I both bought some for the house, so we’re good there. Dh went to the grocery store and added a few canned soups, beans, chili, and an extra case of bottled water. Enough to have something for a few weeks if we needed, but not enough to go overboard and run out of pantry room. Actually, his bigger concern was having to deal with crowds of people freaking out, so he went one evening, it wasn’t crowded, so he got a few more things to buy him time before we’d have to go back.
Nothing super exciting. More in the cautiously optimistic realm.

I'm going into town today and will look and see, just out of interest, how well the shelves are stocked. I may get a few bottles of hand sanitiser if I can - Dh is a driving instructor and 'shares' the wheel all day with students. It'll just be a case of persuading him to use it He's very much a 'stop fussing' person but if he couldn't work for 2 weeks due to self isolation/illness we'd be down a ton of money as it's our own driving school

I use everything in my cupboards before doing a big restock, so often I literally have nothing in! I’ve now made sure that I have a full stock of everything but I haven’t stock piled anything.

9 rolls for a few months? WOW! I think I would go through that in 2 weeks (one person - me) I think your technique needs some review! To be fair I did forget that the one I buy all the time is called "double length" but even then, one roll easily lasts me a week or more.

If we were required to self-isolate and therefore be confined to home, we'd get through it quite a bit quicker.

Use the bathroom maybe 6 times a day with an average of 8 sheets each time. That is 48 sheets so about 3 days with a few extra sheets 'cause sometimes you need more . So that would be about 2 1/2 rolls a week but I know it is more like 3 1/2 so maybe I use more sheets per or pee more times than I think

I am a toilet paper hoarder, so I always have a stash. I need at least 3 spare rolls per toilet, and I buy the mega rolls, so we usually go through one roll a month. I'm not really doing anything different that I normally would.

I haven't stocked up quite as much as others on the thread have, or my MIL has. But I did buy more meat to freeze than I normally would, just so we would have it on hand. Also stocked up on various pastas/sauces, canned veggies, canned fruit. I bought 2 big containers of laundry soap instead of the 1 I would have normally. Just bought doubles of a lot of household goods. Also have an extra 35# bag of dog food coming. I did spend $84 at Walgreens 2 days ago to stock up on meds. We were running low on DSs colds meds as well as Tylenol so I just bought everything that we would need.

What I have heard/read is that if the situation in China doesn't improve that there can be a disruption in shipping. Since a huge amount of items we purchase here come from China, there can possibly be shortages of things in the future. I think that is a big reason why people are stocking up. Exactly...more worried about businesses shutting down, supplies dwindling because of it. I read somewhere that it can raise prices 25% and I would much rather not have to pay the higher price or have to hunt supplies down. Also, I work at a School and if we do shut down for awhile I just want to be prepared. I did stock up my freezer etc. I haven't seen it for myself, but I heard that aerial photos of China are dramatically different now. Used to be impossible to see any detail due to severe pollution, and now with factories shut down, they have clean, or much cleaner air. A lot of those factories make things we buy in North America. So I believe a supply chain breakdown is very possible. No idea how long it would take. But yes, I'm stocking up on essentials.
