DD's girl scout troop made these cards for a friend of mine whose 13 year old special needs daughter was having back surgery.

Every year I make a batch of blank cards and bundle them for teacher gifts... its not a donation to a charity, but it still counts for something, right?

These are not cards, they are coloring pages that DD's girl scout troop donates to Color A Smile charity. It's a charity that I found when I was searching for a way to send my dying grandmother something she could enjoy and know that someone was thinking of her without exerting herself. I donated to the charity to pay for shipping and their web costs and etc and they sent the pictures to my grandmother once a month until she passed (I sent her cards and other things but i wanted to do more and this charity helped me). Several years later DD joined girl scouts and I knew the perfect charity that these girls could give to without much help. Every troop meeting we start with coloring a page or two. I mail them off once we get a stack. The girls like to color and feel good knowing that they are doing something that is important to someone, even though they are young and maybe sometimes feel like they can't do 'adult' type things, they can do this and it means something.

ABCreations those are all wonderful and totally "count" - we can all get inspired by different ways to help. And I just love your teacher cards with the silhouette stamping. Makes me think I need some dandelions for my stamp collection! azcrafty thanks for letting us know about the Cards for Kindness. They support a lot of different charities that haven't been mentioned here before, and accept themes that some of the other groups don't (in particular, thank you cards, which I still have an excess of). I'll try to prepare a small box for them soon. I'm sure I can finish off some birthday and cheerful cards for them. Has anyone else made any fun designs they want to share? I should take a quick picture of the ones I've made lately - I've been sharing them on the challenges board but forgot to share here

I shared Crafty Al’s sheetload of cards with a friend, now she’s hooked too! Which is great for Cards for Soldiers

Other than the joy we get knowing we are bringing joy and happiness with our card donations, what is your favorite thing about making cards to donate? I think mine is that I get to use papers, designs and embellishments that I wouldn’t normally use, or aren’t my style. It’s been fun using stuff, mostly papers that don’t really work for me but are perfect for others I think I’m also going to try a bit more layering this weekend.

I like to be able to use up things that aren’t really my style too. Or to make cards that I wouldn’t normally need for myself. I love making random hello cards but there’s only so many you can use. I also enjoy being able to make cards without having to worry too much about whether I will like them in the future or whether other people will like them. For the cards I make to use myself I want them to represent/speak to me and also the person I’m going to send them to, for cards I sell I’m trying to imagine whether other people will like them enough to pay money and also whether they showcase my skill/brand well enough. In other words, I’m focused a lot on other people’s imaginary opinions. When I make cards for donation I don’t worry so much - as long as they’re not totally ugly/badly made I figure someone out there will love and appreciate them, and I’ll never know anyway! So I get to experiment and play with donation cards It’s very freeing and relaxing. I tend to be a perfectionist with the cards I sell. I have a box for Bring Smiles to Seniors that’s almost full. I had about 135 cards in there but then I had to wait for envelopes to arrive. I always forget to check my envelope supplies! I’m at that point where I think: should I wait for my cream cardstock to get here and finish off that one pad or should I just get the box in the mail full-enough??

I think I found the limit of the medium sized flat rate box. I was just barely able to squeeze the last few cards in... 201 cards, if I counted correctly! The box is 7 1/2 pounds. Yay! http://instagram.com/p/CAggDgApAp5 I'm so, so sick of the supplies I've been using up but with this I think I can call them done and toss the rest of the scraps. We'll see if I actually can... I usually squeeze another 10 cards out when I think I'm done but it's like getting blood from a stone, so I might give myself a break. I'm going to tidy up now so I can rest all weekend. I'm exhausted.

Thanks for passing along the organization - it fits me the best as I didn't want to write on the insides.

I really appreciate not having to write the messages inside too. It’s the hardest part.

I just wanted to say thanks for having this thread. I have so many cards & I've been looking for somewhere to donate. I currently have about 185 cards ready to go to Cards for Soldiers. I'm trying to finish up one more batch of Thanksgiving cards before I send them at the end of the month.

It's nice that they acknowledge receiving them. I'm already working on the next batch and hope to have them done and mail by end of August. And...it really helps me use up my stash and be productive!

I love getting an acknowledgment, and it's even nicer when it's hand written or signed. They've already passed the 100,000 card mark this year! I'm glad you're enjoying donating. I haven't had the mojo for a while, but I hope to get back to it soon. It's a really good way to work through a lot of stash, for sure. I'm going to do some Bloom St and Never Grow Up cards next, even though I should probably get started on some fall and holiday cards.

Sorry, I missed your comment! Yeah, maybe when summer is over? I can’t tell if I’m burned out seasonally, or too busy with other things (probably), or if it’s just pandemic related. Are you busy with other crafts or life things?

I just found this thread. I don't come over to this board very often and I guess I didn't realize there was even a card board. I don't scrapbook anymore but Imake tons of cards. I've donated hundreds of cards mostly to Cards for Soldiers and to local nursing homes. I'm looking forward to having some new resources for my cards.

I'm so glad you found us Feel free to share any cards you want to show off or brag about your stats! The card/stamp board is fairly quiet but we're trying to get a bit more conversation going. And we have a big card challenge month - Cardtober - coming up fairly soon (how?! how is it almost September?!) with a new card challenge every day. You might also want to check out the challenge board. We have a monthly team challenge, just for fun, and there are many people who only make cards, or who make cards more than we scrap. You're welcome to check out the challenge lists and the sharing thread to get a sense of the chat there, and if you'd like to join in just let us know. We usually sign up during the last week of the month. You can earn 10-12 points per card, easy peasy!

I'm not sure if anyone has donated to this group before but I heard they need more cards than ever this year. cardzforkidz.org/It seems to be a similar format to Cards for Hospitalized Kids - they ask for non-religious, uplifting cards that don't mention the kid's health status - no get well soon, feel better, hang in there - they are discarding 4% of cards right now because they have these messages. They want cards with signed messages inside.

I just finished up another batch of cards to Bring Smiles to Seniors. It's all packaged and ready to head to the post office on Monday. I tried to do more non-feminine ones this time, as the last batch were very flowery.
My goal is to send Fall/Thanksgiving cards next, so they have time to get them out before November happens. Not sure how fast they turn cards around, but want to give them plenty of time.
In addition, I want to send some Veterans Day card (using the new Queen & Co patriotic paperline and dies).
Here's a picture, just 4 styles show, but this lot I did 21 different styles, with one 6x6 paperpack using Basic Grey Porcelain pad. I guess I can't upload a picture for some reason - sorry!

The board is full - no space for attachments. Which is a bummer - I’d love to see. If you use Tapatalk you should be able to add a photo, or if you can host the picture on Instagram, Flickr, or some other website (a blog) you can link to the image using the insert image button. Anyway, well done! I’m sure they’ll appreciate them

I got behind in mailing my box of cards to Cards for Soldiers. I had wanted to mail them every quarter but have only mailed a box once this year. I picked up 200 cards from my friend and I have over 200 myself. I’m a little overwhelmed looking at all of them knowing the work that goes into packing Hopefully I can work on them throughout the week! We might have 2 boxes!

Thanks for sharing that. I hadn’t seen it yet. I don’t blame her. It’s a huge amount of work. Bring Smiles to Seniors is still accepting cards so I will be sending them all of my Christmas cards this year.

I haven’t been creating or mailing as consistently as I would like this year either, but given the circumstances I’d say we’re all doing the best we can. I’m sure they’ll appreciate your big box(es) full of cards! Now that I know what’s up with Caring Hearts I can pack a box for BSTS. I think I probably have enough for a medium flat rate box now if I’m sending all of the upcycled Christmas cards I have made.
