Sent my first batch of 35 or 40 cheap, thin charity cards and it was $10.80 in postage!!
Looked up thread -- now off to research "regional rate" boxes on USPS.com....
So do you need anything special to be able to buy postage online?

So do you need anything special to be able to buy postage online? Yup, postage is a killer. Sending 200-250 cards in a large flat rate box is probably the most cost effective option but requires storing cards for longer (unless you're a card making machine!) I usually only send cards about twice a year once the box is as full as I can get it. You'll need a USPS account if you want to buy from them directly. I had one anyway for Informed Delivery and mail holds. You might have to set one up to order the boxes anyway. Other than that, just a printer, or I think you can get a QR code to scan at most post offices and they will print the label for you. I also have a ShipStation account through PayPal but I don't know if it's any/much cheaper than buying through the USPS directly.

I have informed delivery, so once my printer's back from the shop, I guess I'm good to go!

Received my shipment of Regional Rate Box A. Loaded one up with 150 cards. My printer's still in the shop and I'm too sick to go into the office and print there, but I figured I'd check out how much postage would be. But I can't find a way to purchase regional rate postage! What am I missing?

What am I missing? Woohoo - 150 cards! If you don't end up using Pirate Ship - if you're going through the usps postal calculator postcalc.usps.com/ you can choose shipping based on size and weight (not flat rate boxes) and Regional Rate boxes should come up as an option. It's in the list near the bottom after the flat rate boxes. They should also show up when you go through the USPS Click & Ship process.

Those are NOT 150 homemade cards. That's about 110 store-bought cards that won't ever get used here and about 40 free-in-the-mail from charities blank cards that I stamped happy hello/thinking of you/sending smiles type messages in.
Ah, so I guess my problem was starting with flat rate priority. I can try USPS again, but Pirate Ship was cheap. And soooooooooooo cute!

Hey, it's all donations and decluttering And I know from experience that stamping a bunch of sentiments feels like WORK. If you're set up with Pirate Ship that's great. No need to use USPS.

Is in it? They are always cheaper and they didn't put the 'holiday' extra price on their pricing. If you ever make an address mishap just ask for refund and throw away the label, they will credit the account back after a month or so. Ask me how I know...hahaha...I was sending a package out and the address auto corrected- pita- and didn't see it until I already purchased and printed the label.

Just got an email from Pirate Ship -- Regional Rate is going away on the 23rd when rates change. Possibly the reason I was having trouble finding it. They say regular priority is going down.

Thanks for letting us know. I hope we can still use the free r.r. boxes we have even if the cost is just regular priority. They're a useful size for some of the things I ship.

Hey, joblackford! Cards for Cubs just came to my attention elsewhere on the internet…. I found it odd that they prefer A6 or A7 cards. You mention fairly frequently that you generally make A4 for donation. Do you stick with that for this group as well?

Shakti I just checked the site and I wonder if they missed printed. The most common size here in the US is A2 4 1/4 X 5 1/2. The examples they are showing us how to send them in are A2 size cards too. So if you make A2 size cards you'll be okay. Thats what I sent them the last two years.

I just saw this video from Mary Polanco on Operation Gratitude if anyone is interested. One thing that caught my attention is you can print out a shipping label for a flat $20 and send a box weighing up to 50lbs.

Isn't that weird, azcrafty? This "Size recommendations are: 5in x 7in (A7) OR 4in x 6in (A6)" is right in their card guidelines document. Are you saying that their printables and other resources are actually sized for A4 cards? I didn't even look at those until you mentioned them.

Are you saying that their printables and other resources are actually sized for A4 cards? I didn't even look at those until you mentioned them. That is a new thing! This is the first year they have recommended using 5x7 or 4x6 cards. I would guess that 80%+ of the cards they have received are A2 (half letter, folded) and will be this year too. It's much more convenient and efficient for people making their own card bases in bulk to chop a letter sized sheet into 2 card bases. They don't actually require them to be a specific size, they just have to come with envelopes of the correct size to match your cards so if you have A2 cards and envelopes you'll be fine to send them. It could be because sponsor BearlyArt only sells A6 4x6 card/envelope sets. bearly.art/products/cards-envelopes-colorful-collectionfor anyone curious about the guidelines: cardsforcubs.org/pages/guidelines The free phrase graphics look to be a single page pdf, sized to print on one letter sized sheet, and be cut out as a sentiment. I think they should work on any sized card.

Great idea joblackford . I have a hard time believing that they don't want A2 sized ones. Confirmed by the organizers, they are quite happy to have standard A2 4.25x5.5" cards. They say they are trying to deter people from sending very big or very small cards. I don't know if that means mini slims or slimlines or if people are making really odd sizes, but we're good to make any normal sized cards that we can supply envelopes for. Tagging Shakti

BTW I just looked up whether you can still use old Regional Rate boxes even though the Regional Rate service has been discontinued and you can - you'll just pay based on weight and distance like a normal box shipped via priority. So I'll be keeping the free boxes for other mailing purposes but filling the large flat rate boxes as much as possible for donations. Better get making!

Has anybody participated in Cards for Cubs Cardmaker Success Summit?
I signed up for a free ticket and the VIP pass is only $39 right now. As the summit spans workdays as well as a weekend, that seems worthwhile (assuming the content is worthwhile). Crafty Al was the only presenter I recognized, but I don't recognize a lot of the names folks bandy about around here.
Edited to add: Weird. This morning on my iPad, it was offering me $39, but wouldn't let me proceed to payment because it said my (0 start) zip code was "invalid". Came over to the computer to try again and it's telling me $59.
Tried again on the pad. Decided to delete and reenter my zip. Accidentally typoed one number, but their system accepted it. And my CC, even though the zip on the order doesn’t match the billing address.

We were discussing about this in this thread I posted a few days ago. 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/137126/card-maker-success-summitsI only done the free version. I have 24hrs to watch the videos and lots of times they are not my style so I just skip them after watching 5 minutes or fast-forward them.

I either missed that or didn't connect the dots when I got the email message from Cards for Cubs this morning. I think for the rock-bottom price I paid, it might be worthwhile to be able to view the content I choose on my own schedule. At even the next price point, probably not, and definitely not at "list price."
Should I move my two posts over there?

No need I just wanted to let you know. joblackford got the full excess one year I don't remember what she thought of it. Maybe Jo you can chime in. I'm just cheap when it comes to paying for classes. I watch a lot of YouTube videos so I'm always skeptical about how much new ideas they can teach me.

At even the next price point, probably not, and definitely not at "list price." Should I move my two posts over there? I got the full access pass the first year they ran it and I'm sure they've improved things since then. It was worth it to me that year because I knew I was going to be busy/out of town when the classes were free. I got some ideas and techniques out of it, and found a few new crafters to follow. Some were pretty disappointing, either because they were beginner video makers or because they pitched their videos at beginners, but there were some neat ideas and some of them definitely stuck with me. I would recommend setting up something in your email system (like a rule or filter) to catch all of the emails from them and corral them because they will be emailing you a LOT, as I recall. That drove me crazy, but that might just be me. And hopefully the ads at the beginning of the videos are more varied than the first year - I watched the same 3 or 4 dumb ads so many times... That's a good chance to go pour a coffee and get a snack! Ardyth is someone to prioritize, very professional and concise, and she makes lots of cards. I'll definitely watch her lesson. Justine Hovey is usually pretty good. Daniel West is good but I don't use copics so his lessons have a little less value to me. Crafty Al for sure. Tiffany Solario is not really my style but I think I liked her class last time. I don't recognize too many other names but a few were in the first one, just not my kind of makes. Hope you have lots of fun!
