I think schools all over the world will end up closing. Apart from possibly Finnish Lapland and the Falklands. Actually there are already cases in Finnish Lapland and there are discussions of closing schools in the whole country. 🙂 This is one of the things I love about the Peas. We’re like Reuters, we have people everywhere!

Ours are still open (SW Washington) but I don't expect that to last long... teachers, paras, office staff, custodians, lunch ladies, bus drivers... Yeah, the kids are not getting it, but what about the adults in all the buildings. ETA: my neighborhood elementary has 450 kids and 70 teachers and staff. I have no idea about the middle and high school numbers. It is crazy, isn’t it? Apparently Van is having a meeting today, if they close Evergreen will too, don’t you think?

Yes, I think all schools will be closed. Today is the last day for our district until April 6.

They also won't do online school because our disadvantaged students don't all have computers. My daughter is home with the Flu, confirmed, she is out until Monday and she got an email from the principal asking if she had access to a computer at home and if she had internet. They should know in 15 mins if they go back in on Monday. We are also a very poor area and our schools do not have laptops/chrome books for all the students, and the few we have stay in the library and if someone wants to take one out of the library into a classroom it's a huge deal. We are fortunate. Between PCs, laptops, chromebooks and ipads we should be fine. I "think" what will happen is that we will also get the extra weeks of spring break. Intellectually I understand all of this but my heart is grieved for all the disappointed kids. We made "state" in basketball and the TSSAA cancelled it. My daughter was hand chosen to attend a conference which will end up canceled if schools are closed. The one thing I am hoping for is that our dance recital goes on as planned, It's not till the end of May. It's her decade of dance year. It's so special and she's worked hard. Will she get honored next year, yes, but is it the same? no. intellectually I get it, but emotionally I am hoping for a different outcome.

Our governor was just on tv saying as of right now MN is not closing the schools, but they’re taking things day by day so that could change. He was also saying that people should limit their exposure to groups of more than 250 people, but how do you even do that when there are over 800 kids in my kid’s elementary alone and it’s a school without closed classrooms?
ETA: We had spring break this week already, so any days in our district that the kids miss will have to either be made up at home or extend the school year or MN legislation passed so the kids won’t have to make up the days.
ETA2 (3/15): All MN K-12 schools are now closed until March 27th (for now, that could change again).

So our school is having kids come on Monday to pick up resources. The teachers will have staff development next week about remote teaching. Then they will bump up our spring break for the following week and when that week is over, remote learning will begin. It will not be a full fledged academic program. I feel it is as good as we can expect at this point.

I think it’s crazy how some are closed for three weeks and the next county over isn’t closing at all. We have had one death in our county and 6 confirmed cases. We live in a heavily populated elderly community (snow birds). Our district just sent out an email saying they have zero plans to close. We are out this week for spring break and school will be open on Monday. Where are you that you're getting a message like that? Just curious. Kids in the Puget Sound region don't go back to school until APRIL 27. I just want to say, Seattle Public Schools said “no plans to close” on Tuesday, and now we’re down for six weeks!

I'll tell you what, all of the closures in advance of any confirmed cases makes me believe this is much, much worse than we realize - and that authorities know it. How many thousands of undiagnosed cases are out walking around because we don't have tests for them? *adjusts tinfoil hat* Pass me some foil...I have been thinking that for the last few days. Just like in other countries we haven’t done as much testing as we should. China has been accused of under reporting but I fear we are as well. That snd I would bet that some flu deaths were actually COVID if they weren’t actually tested. It sounds like this virus has been here a lot longer than we thought.

The district JUST CLOSED, until the 24th. I’m on the phone RIGHT NOW. Funny timing. And good, I’m glad they made the right decision. Glad to hear it. South Kitsap (i.e. Bremerton, Port Orchard) announced closing yesterday, as did Bainbridge Island. Central Kitsap (Silverdale) and North Kitsap (Poulsbo, Kingston) JUST announced it, within the last hour. This is a huge relief for my DD as her SO's kids are in Central and her own daughter is in South. Now they just have to figure out the custody logistics. Sounds like the closings in WA are spreading fast. As they should.

Our public schools are closed by order of the governor. Private schools as of today were closed through Monday, so it remains to be seen if they will also close

I'm surprised we have not shut down yet, but our schools want to keep going if possible. They have cancelled all sports and activities and most things in our town have been cancelled. (Byron, Illinois)

We don't have any confirmed cases in our county yet but we're closed until "at least" 3/27. They will re-evaluate at that time. I'm guessing we'll lose April vacation and use that week to make up time lost. I'm glad we only used 1 snow day this year (5 are built into our calendar every year).
The mayor of Boston is adamant Boston public schools aren't closing. I know there's a lot of concern for kids that only get a decent meal at school.

They just announced all K-12 in our county are closed effective Monday. That is 193,000 students, very large district. They will readdress on March 27.
I work at a private university, about 1000 students on our campus. The way we operate, I am sure we will remain open until a student, staff or faculty tests positive.

I’m in Canada. Kids are out for spring break at the end of today. We have 2 weeks off. As of now school will go back in 2 weeks but if there is still a reason to the teachers have prepared the kids. Older dd (Gr 9) is coming home with extra material and assignments and instructions for on line learning. Little dd is coming home with instruction for on line learning and a computer. Hopefully it doesn’t have to come to that but we’ll see. The timing of spring break right now is helpful. I have read multiple articles on the closing of schools during SARS and apparently there is no benefit. I know this virus is diff. Also, parents don’t always keep sick kids at home as they should so the closure helps combat that.

I’m in central Ohio and schools in my area are closed for the next 3 weeks (one of those was supposed to be spring break). My husband an I work for the same company and we are both required to work from home until further notice.

Our schools are not closed as of yet. Daughters school has been sending out emails trying to get a handle on which kids don't have internet access. All students have laptops, but not all students have internet access at home. The kids have off Monday so the teachers can train on remotely teaching. I think it will be coming real soon.

The school I teach at goes on spring break next week. Today, we had a teacher work day. We will go back on the March 23 as a professional development day. I am betting we will be out that entire week. Omaha Public Schools, the largest district in the state is on Spring Break this week. They will be out next week. The school in the town where I live, where my son goes to school is still in session. No plans to close yet. Our governor held a press conference today. That may change what our district does.

I think our school district will be having a meeting tonight to decide and have advised all students to bring home their books today. My son is a Jr. in HS. He also got word his SAT test that is supposed to be tomorrow has been canceled.

My district just decided at noon today to close until the end of March. Long Beach unified is closing until mid-April. But I’m wondering if maybe a spring break week is in there, so it just seems extended.

The mayor of Boston is adamant Boston public schools aren't closing. I know there's a lot of concern for kids that only get a decent meal at school. If DC schools can find a way to still serve breakfast and lunch at key sites, Boston can too. Schools in the Houston-area districts are offering curbside delivery of meals for students.
