State of Utah just closed school for two weeks. I understand why, but my kid has been very hard to deal with lately.

If DC schools can find a way to still serve breakfast and lunch at key sites, Boston can too. Schools in the Houston-area districts are offering curbside delivery of meals for students. Yes, some school districts are offering it in MI too.

We’re almost at 20 states now so my answer is yes.

They did further clarification that they are doing a soft closure in Utah. Kids who need to eat and have nowhere else to go, can still go to school. Ugh! There is no easy answer on how to do closures. I'll be able to keep my son home, but he goes to a title one school.

They just closed all K-12 schools in Alabama until April 6th tentatively.
Fyi: Alabama just got it's first confirmed case today.

My district on Long Island finally announced we will be closed next week. Spring sports and the Spring musical are all postponed for now. The Governor lifted the 180 days of school rule so we don't have to pay back the week with our Spring Break, which is't until mid-April.

Schools here are starting to close and combining it with spring break. Many schools here go on spring break in the next two weeks or so, and the closures are lasting about two-three weeks. Kids are getting an extra week off. Some schools are going to online teaching too. My friend is a teacher and they are spending today instructing their kids how to go online and do the assignments. Same here. My DD is a first year Kindergarten teacher and she stayed up late last night creating a "take home pack" of work for 3 weeks of activities. She had it ready to send home today but the school said "not yet" since there were no concrete plans to close. As soon as she left work this afternoon (without distributing this homework packet), they got notice that they will close next week and the following week is Spring Break so they are out until at least 3/30. She was not happy that she was discouraged from distributing that work today. It's ready to go but she now she won't see the kids.

It’ll be interesting to see the comparison between schools closing early and those who are not.
The early closers will probably help flatten the curve and people will think everyone over reacted and that it didn’t get bad.
We go back in Monday for one day, but I packed up as though we may not be returning. You never know. I’d rather be safe.

I am in NYS near Buffalo and listened to our Governor today (not a fan of him most days) but he has been very calm and forthcoming. Was happy to hear him lift the 180 days requirement. None are closed here in western NY although the city of Buffalo is closed Monday (staff to report) then kids in on Tuesday to "get work etc" and he will decide on the rest of the week. I think where I am, they will close not this coming week but the following to butt up to Spring break,

Most of the public school districts in my county are closed through March 27. We are just ending our spring break. DH is a teacher. I don't know if I can make it through him being home 24/7 for three weeks total. The blaring TV is making me nuts. I like my peace and quiet.

Just got the message that no students next week. Teachers will be coming in to plan for long term closures. My husband’s school said the same thing yesterday but today said teachers should stay home too. So I won’t be surprised if that happens to my district as well.

The governor of Oregon closed schools until April 1st, we have a week of spring break in the middle. My guess is the students will be out longer than that as Washington is closed to April 24th.
It is all about flattening the curve, Covid-19 will continue to make the rounds, the long incubation and infection time makes this more difficult to manage than the flu and other recent infectious diseases. The mostly healthy school age population could spread the disease very easily because their symptoms and cases will be less severe for the most part. It's the grandparents and other immunocompromised folks that are at risk.
It is about the greater good of the "herd" to protect our communities. As a substitute teacher it means I won't be working or making income during the closure. Thankfully my income is about the extra's in our budget. Others are not as fortunate.
It will be inconvenient for parents, and hard for those who depend on school for 1-2 meals a day. Our state is making plans for drive-by pick-ups and feeding centers similar to the summer meals programs.
The goal is to NOT overwhelm our health care system like it is in the Seattle area or in Italy. China has seen a reduced rate of infection by the extreme quarantine measures put into place. It is wise to self-quarantine those at high risk like my MIL.
Plan ahead, learn to play games, visit Khan Academy, read some books, watch a movie, and try and make the best of it.
Prayers to everyone as we work through this pandemic. Let us work together and be kind to one another. Let's not wish ill on anyone!
As I write this I am watching the snow fall . . . !

Our school board is meeting now (Orange County, CA). It looks like we will be closed through April 10 (the end of our spring break). It looks like we might provide work for the students. Free lunches are a big priority. Lots of unknowns still.

I saw PLurker mentioned Wisconsin. My districts last day of Spring Break was today— we got the word that we’re closed through April 3. We’ll know more Monday.

We had a meeting tonight and starting Monday they will be on spring break while they figure out what to do for two weeks they will have off after that. Spring break was supposed to be 6-10. So here we go!

Mesa Unified School Districts, the largest school district in the State of Arizona, just sent out an announcement that they are not canceling any classes next week. Keep in mind that the students and faculty are all returning from Spring Break, with a lot of people returning from out of state and out of country travel. About 16 or 18 districts within the State of Arizona are suspending classes for one week, I just think this is completely irresponsible on the district!
(eeeek, and with this post I'm officially "nice as pi"!!

Which is also my first reaction to the Governor of Vermont's press conference last night where it was stated that schools would not close for 2 weeks until the moment was right. Maybe it's some kind of face saving move and they'll be called off by Monday anyway. No penalty for absentees so either way I won't be sending my kids. My husband had to go to NYC for a meeting last week so we could be spreading it ourselves!

That's great! I didn't even think of the health care workers needing childcare. I love what your town is doing.
Someone in our neighborhood facebook page set up a place to post if you are able to help with childcare, etc. We have many nurses in our neighborhood.

My daughter doesn’t go back until the 14th of April. She’s a senior so she’s a bit disappointed with the possibility of no prom or graduation.

Ohio is closed for 3 weeks. My district has a late spring break that starts 3 weeks from now so we will be out for 4.
Teachers get the coming week off (we are using our calamity days) and then I have to report to school. I've already put together stuff for my students' online learning so its going to be a long two weeks being at the school without the kids.
My district seems to change their mind every hour on this, however, so we'll see if the teachers actually will have to report. There are over 70 adults in my building so it seems weird to have us there, but I think they are worried about public perception. I absolutely could do all of my lesson planning, posting, and grading from home.

Yesterday was crazy.
On Thursday, I was delivering professional development when we got an email outlining our pandemic/elearning plans should we need to close (but we didn't close). Waited for the Governor of Illinois to speak, and he did not close the schools at that time (but we really think this was about buying time for people to prepare).
Yesterday, we held meetings every period to go over the elearning plan and what would happen should we close. I am the instructional tech coach, so I will be supporting the teachers and students remotely. And then at 1PM we made the decision to close until after Spring Break (early April). And then the Governor closed all the schools in Illinois.
We are a 1:1 district with a good Learning Management System, a plan for students who don't have Internet access to get cheaper WiFi or free hotspots from the District, and a plan to have lunches and snacks available for pickup at the schools and even delivered to bus routes in neighborhoods. We're in good shape because our admin team and union have been working together for a couple of weeks on what we will do.
I was one of the last people out of the building at 4PM yesterday. Our swipe cards for entrance have been deactiviated. We had to take everything we might need for the forseeable future home, with no access back to the building.
It was so quiet. It was like the saddest last day of school ever.
I just stood in my library and cried for a minute, and then left.
It's a whole different world.

Yes I believe so. We are on spring break this week and most likely will be the next the district has told us. I think it’s a good idea. I only worry about the kids who rely on the breakfast and lunch and how they will be able to eat. I think it’s a good idea to shut them down. We need to bunker down and flatten the curve
