I take the staying home seriously. My child is 23yo and has come home from her first job to work from my home (and I am working from home) because she is health-compromised and NYC, where she lives, is not the best place to be right now.
My teenager (online college courses right now) has an orthodontist appointment this week and my dog has his regular vet appointment. I can postpone the vet one month and the dog would miss his shots by a month and I don't think it'd be a big deal. My son with his teeth would be a much bigger deal. This is a serious ongoing issue for him and braces #2. Neither vet nor ortho is canceling appointments. I feel fine about both the appointments, all the while taking everything else quite seriously.
Are you all canceling appts? My teen is super healthy, but of course he could bring something in for his sister, as could I at the vet's. My daughter is healthy, but has compromised lungs, so anything that would affect her lungs would be particularly hard on her.
Ugh.
Update: Ortho has pushed out the visit 2 months. They aren't taking any chances. I can't get a hold of the vet (can't wait on hold very long as I am working). I will call again later and suggest that they pick the dog up from the car and bring him back to car. I am fine with that. I love that idea.

My dog has a vet appt tomorrow I have a Dr appt Tue. My dog has a groomer appt Wed. While I'm staying home as much as possible these aren't things I would cancel. I live in a small, rural area and my decisions would be different if I lived in a heavier populated area.

So far the Orthodontist and Dentist haven't cancelled our upcoming appointments. They both tend to be fairly sterile environments so I'm not too concerned. And my oldest has a Dr appt on Tuesday, but it's at a small, rural clinic that wouldn't have Covid-19 patients directed to it. So I think he is ok as well. I work for an audiologist and I would not be surprised to learn this week that we will be closed for the foreseeable future. The majority of our patients are elderly and have additional health issues. I don't expect them to make or keep very many appointments.

I have a doctors appointment on Friday for my annual. It was made a year ago. If I cancel I probably have to wait almost another year. My doctor’s office is not seeing any flu/Covid-19 patients. If you have a fever, they want you to go to urgent care. So, I am not taking away his time for those cases.

Our vet came Friday for our dog's shots. Nothing changed but I didn't touch her ipad to "sign" to pay. But we were pretty close to each other since I have to hold our drama queen 100 lb lab while she was having her nails trimmed...
She said that she has not had any cancellations so far.

My kids have a well check appt with their pediatrician on April 1st. We will still be under our no school quarantine on April 1. I am calling the office in the morning to find out if I should reschedule or keep it. I don’t love the idea of taking them into a germ factory during all of this.

DH has a doctor’s appointment tomorrow. He’s keeping it because his blood pressure has been high even though they increased his meds. At least his doctor is at the small clinic and not at the big hospital here. I don’t have anything scheduled but I would probably cancel if I did.

I have a thyroid check up on Wednesday that I am canceling. Its a large Dr's office and I'd rather not deal with that. On Friday I have a hair appointment, that I plan on keeping. She works by herself in her salon so there wont be a bunch oof unknown germs. So unless the government shuts everyone down, I plan on keeping that appointment.

I have a doctor appointment Tuesday, it's a necessary one, as it concerns a serious risk factor. I'm the first patient of the day at 7 a.m. so at least I won't be waiting in a room full of people.
But the appointment scheduled for early April with my neurologist is postponed. His office is in a massive hospital complex and it's just a 6 month check-in, no symptoms, no meds to discuss, no labs or scans to review, so nothing important.

Dentist or vet?? Hmm...what if it's both?
I kid you not, my cat has a dental appointment next week. I usually get an Uber there and back, it's a small clinic and I'll only see the vet & the vet nurse, so if we are both well and they are open, at this stage I'll probably still take her. However I can easily cancel if things change.

We have mental health appointments next week. Not sure if we’re keeping or canceling. They’re not in the main medical building but in one that houses mental health and sleep clinics.

I'd be postponing anything that is not critical (read: life-threatening). Your risk of infection increases with every person you interact with and every place you go. And as a result, you also become a threat to others. I wouldn't be willing to risk it.

Husband has appt to see have a scan and see his oncologist this week. The oncologist is in a special area of the building with a separate parking area and waiting room, a big waiting room so everyone can spread out. Though, I am going to ask if we can go right back and wait in an examination room OR wait outside and have them text me when we should go in. The scan is a different situation. I am going to ask again for him to wait in an examination room and after he goes in, I will wait outside in the car.
It really is important that he has this done, so we can see if the treatments are working. No sense him being miserable from them if they are not working.
What scares me, is if he gets the virus, he will refuse the ventilator - he is a DNR patient.

I would definitely call the vet and ask if they are willing to do the shots outside in the parking lot. A sort of drive by clinic. A month isn’t a big deal, but who knows how long this will last. Your pets are still vulnerable to other pathogens. So the parking lot seems a good compromise. Ask to pay via CC over the phone.
As for the ortho, I’d call and ask the advice. Sure all the instruments are sterilized, but what about the waiting room and just the close contact breathing on each other? Ask the risks if your DS skips a month. Two months? He he can miss one month but not two, I’d go now and then skip the next one.
This will only work if we stay away from each other. The virus comes on rapidly with little notice. We don’t know who “looks fine”, but as been exposed and is a carrier. Who looks fine and then will then be sick tomorrow.
And of course oncology and serious ongoing medical conditions need to continue to be seen. The current needs outweigh the risks. Big hugs to you all.

I have been awake since 1am, wrestling with this. One of the cats is showing signs of a uti, normally I would wait a day or 2 to see if it was just some temporary irritation instead of an infection, but I am worried that if I wait, the vet will have to close. But I am also worried about going to the vet. But if I miss the window of opportunity to take her in, she could potentially have the infection for months. I think I have to take her.

My dentist and orthodontist have closed their offices for two weeks (they're part of the same office.) My mom had a dentist appointment scheduled for tomorrow, but her dentist's office just closed for two weeks also. Both offices are handling emergencies only.

I have a dentist appt for regular cleaning in about 2 weeks that I'm going to reschedule today for end of June. We are in good health with no meds taken and rarely visit the Dr, but taking the need for precautions seriously. Our health care is at Kaiser, Roseville, where the 1st CA death from Covid 19 occurred, so it's in the area.

I think for the ortho i'd have him go (if I had to take him i'd likely wait in the car because of dd.) I instructed my dd who had an MD appt to hit up the sanitizer stations as she passed them, don't sit near others, don't touch things. I noticed that when she returned from the appt she took a shower too. Considering his need for the appt, i'd go, but give strict instructions on not touching, sanitizing/washing, etc.
Mine are due at the vet soon too...i've just yet to make the appt. I'm on the fence. The office is small so there would be limited people around. I'll likely review their vaccines and let it wait if I can.

The oncologist will call him at his appointment time. I'm very relieved. He did have his scans on Friday. Luckily that is in a smaller clinic.

DD's veterinarian emailed her that they will pick up pets from cars and return them. No one has to enter the building.

A local pediatric dentist/ortho office posted that you call when you arrive and sit in your car. They will text when you need to come in the building and parent can wait in car.

A few in my family have upcoming dental visits (just cleanings) and I am canceling them all. I know the office is sterile, but what about the other patients? What about the people working there? I have no way of knowing if they are carriers of coronavirus. These are not essential services for now. There are other people who may NEED to go to the dentist (due to a broken/chipped chip, severe toothache, etc.) so I figure I am helping them too by having them be exposed to less people in the office.

I just had a root canal on Thursday and need to go back this Thursday to complete the process. I really have no idea whether it's okay to cancel it and/or how long the temporary cement will last. I got an infection from the process and was in pretty bad shape on Saturday so I'm not eager to drag it out for months.
We also have a cat who is quickly coming up on the end of her life. We took her to the vet on Saturday who advised us that we did not need to prematurely euthanize her out of fear of being quarantined. She said that vets will continue to be available for life-saving procedures and to prevent suffering and that in her case, she will make a house call (or a porch call if there is heightened risk) for these purposes. I would absolutely cancel any non-critical or routine appointment though.

I have a normal annual eye exam tomorrow. Very torn about it. I called and they said they still want people coming in for appts. I can't push it more then a couple weeks as I will run out of contacts and don't have a current RX to order more.
Currently my plan is to go, touch nothing, wash and sanitize hands, shower when I get home... If my county gets shut down today, I will call again before going. (no cases in my county yet, in my state yes and neighboring counties). I have no plans to go anywhere but this eye exam.
