If you live in a state without a Shelter In Place..

South Dakota here. It is basically a shelter in place but not official. Restaurants and bars are closed. Walmart, Target, Menards, etc are following the same rules as they do in other states. No church.

Here in Iowa there's no eating in a restaurants, no gatherings over 10 people (i.e. churches, funerals, weddings, etc), emergency surgeries only, dental offices are closed except for emergencies, barber shops and salons are closed, floral shops, playgrounds closed etc. by order of the governor. Even without a shelter in place order there are a lot of places that have chosen to close if it wasn't ordered (music stores, libraries, malls, the zoo, kids places).

We do have a shelter in place. It isn’t stopping anyone.

Good question. I thought it was business as usual in those states. It's good to see schools are closed and many non essential businesses are too.

Did you guys here the oh so brilliant Governor of FL has reopened beaches? What a dork!

Anyhow......I just do not comprehend why some aren’t sticking to a shelter in place order.

South Carolina here. Our ineffectual governor finally closed some additional business Friday - it had been the schools and restaurants. Then he added beaches. Then tourist attractions, beauty salons and barbers, gyms and all athletic venues. Friday he added basically all other retail (except for the necessary) - the furniture stores and department stores all have to close except for online or curbside pickup. But factories are all open and no shelter in place. If we were all behaving well and doing the stay at home thing, that would be fine, but so, so many are NOT. PLEASE issue the shelter in place NOW!!!!

Parks are open, but playgrounds, pavilions, bathrooms closed. Schools closed at least until April 30, along with salons, barbers, tattoo. Theaters, libraries, jewelry stores, furniture stores, book stores all closed. There’s an apparent loop hole for arts & crafts stores being open.

Most of these have been closed for weeks already.

If we do end up with shelter in place something like 80% of our business is considered essential, so there are a lot of people working. Many office buildings are low on in-person work. I’m working from home, and we have a very small office. Our company is essential, we will be open.

We are definitely NOT business as normal in Iowa.
Unfortunately we have groups of people gathering, but the rules say no more than 10 people. Frankly our state was locking down sooner than states having more problems who didn’t lock down sooner.

churches are 'essential' here and exempt from the less than 10 people AND social distancing guidelines...stupid. Thankfully our Bishop is more sensible and the Catholic churches are closed

North Dakota. We have no order.

Lots of businesses are closed. But stuff that would be deemed non essential under a shelter in place, is not. My husband still has to go to work. His job is not essential at all, but his company has openly said they will not close until they’re told to by the governor. He’s immune compromised, so this decision infuriates me.

Some are taking it seriously, lots are not. The boat ramps and the parks were FULL last weekend.

The frustrating thing I find is people shopping in groups still. That is pretty much the only time I leave the house, and it’s a nightmare trying to 6 feet distance from a whole family together, especially in a smaller store.

Because the world is filled w/entitled assholes who think the rules don't apply to them!  Also, because they're idiots.

I am in Wyoming, one of the larger communities, and most people are working from home. Schools are starting online tomorrow after being out for three weeks. Restaurants are pick-up only and many have closed until this is over. Service-related businesses are closed. (salons, nail places, etc..)

I did pick-up at Wal-Mart today and they had carts turned upside down creating a queuing system for people. The parking lot wasn't as busy as a normal Sunday, but the food truck in the parking lot was sure busy.

I have left the house twice in three weeks. Last week it was to pick-up from our favorite burger joint and my husband was the one who went in to get the food. Today I did grocery pick-up and didn't even roll my window down to hear my replacements. Most people I know here are behaving the same way.

Thank you for asking. After watching the national news tonight I was disheartened to see how we here in South Dakota are being portrayed. SD does not have a Shelter in Place order, but by no means does that mean we not taking this pandemic seriously and taking precautions. 

As Laurie posted above social distancing practices have been in place across the state. 
Schools and churches have been closed for 3 weeks. Most hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living homes have been closed to visitors even longer. Stores and restaurants have closed completely or adjusted hours and limit the amount of people. Banks, State, Federal and County offices, as well as many business have closed their doors to walk in traffic and many are working from home. Our small town grocery store has closed it's doors to the public and only does parking lot pick-up. Thankfully it has been pretty well stocked and they use social media to let us know when they are out of something.

The governor has been working with the health department to make plans and acquire the necessary medical supplies. She also mobilized the National Guard this week to begin building additional temporary hospitals starting in the two largest cities and then go from there if needed. They do not anticipate our state to peak until late May.

There is a website that tracks how well people are sheltering in place. I don't remember the name of the site right now, but will post it when I find it again. They list SD and some of the other rural agricultural states that do not have a shelter place orders as the worst states. I feel that is an unfair representation as it gets it's data by tracking cell phone usage. What they do not account for is the distances many farmers and ranchers cover in a day to get from pasture to pasture or field just to do daily chores. They may travel 25 miles or more without coming into contact with anyone verses someone in an urban area that only travels a mile radius but encounters multiple people. It is not uncommon here in western SD to have to travel up to 75-100 miles one way to get to a town for groceries and supplies.
