Why are some people saying $3400, not $2400?

Why are some people saying $3400, not $2400? They probably have 2 children that account for the extra $1000.

I just realized we might not get it. Salary wise we would qualify, however, We own a business. It may look like we make too much. I guess we will see. We haven’t had to close so he still brings home a check.

We haven’t had to close so he still brings home a check. Check your most recent taxes (2019 if you already filed, otherwise 2018). The AGI is what will determine your eligibility. On a Form 1040A, your AGI will be on Line 21. On a Form 1040, your AGI will be on Line 37.

Yes, ours is pending in our bank account as of today, should hit on Wednesday. It will be handy as dh is a general contractor and things probably won't be pretty for a bit. We'll sock it away for when we need it. Thankfully we have some savings, but we'll need to tighten up the budget.
Nothing for 19 yr old dd though.

I won’t be getting anything, either. And it really irritates me that it’s looking like a no pay back if a persons financial circumstances improved in 2020. My son is 18 and worked full time after graduation (even though he didn’t turn 18 til late fall.) He was laid off a couple weeks ago. I’m (essentially) ok with me getting nothing, because my income didn’t change. But he got laid off AND had been paying his own car ins and phone. Guess who has to pay that? Would have been nice for him to get something or me get something for him. Such an oversight leaving out the young adults. Even better, my son’s 18 year old (still in “high school”) girlfriend is staying here because her dad is a person that really should have the safety of literal isolation. Since her job (which has since closed) and my sons job (until two weeks ago) still required attendance, it was decided she will ride out the worst of this here. So I have two teens used to having their own money (constant take out etc) eating the hell out of my groceries. I’m glad I am able to provide, however it is mind boggling neither my son, or I, are getting a check. Oh well. I never get anything “free” lol Could they apply for unemployment? My son has. Still no decision by the State. Girlfriend, I don’t think so. I don’t even understand her circumstances to be honest. She goes to a tech high school, and her co-op program was her job. I have no idea if that is regular type income. But here in my state you have to have had a certain amount of income in the previous 4 quarters (based on the questions when helping my son file) and she was no where near that,

I feel for them as its been over 2 weeks since the stimulus package was approved. From what I understood of that package, it didn't matter if you had worked the previous quarters, that they threw out all the regular rules and anyone that lost their job due to the virus could apply. I hope that is true. Kind of why that extra $600 a week was a included in the package. I think once they open the stimulus money for unemployment, that one will have to reapply to get that money and the questions will be different. I know a person that receives Financial Aid for college and he also does work study. Once the college closed, he can't work, but he still gets to turn in hours each week for the amount of hours his work study was approved for. Might try and see what you can find out for the girlfriend to see if she was being paid with government funds, (US Department of Education) as she may too be able to turn in her normal hours. I know several people that work civilian jobs and they are home, but still drawing full checks.

Nothing yet for us, though my husband and I should both get the $1200 (we were not married yet when we filed taxed this year) And he claims his son so I'm assuming he will get the $500 for him. My son however is 18 so nothing for him
We are going to pay off some medical debt we had from last year that we've been making payments on and the rest is going in savings. We are trying to build up both our emergency fund and also the car fund as my car died a couple months ago (it's 11 years old and the fix would be way more than the car is worth). I work from home and all appointments have been cancelled until at least August, so we are fine with just one car right now, but at some point will have to buy again.

Mine came today! Had no idea it would be this soon. We're putting it in savings to pile up cash to buy DH a new truck this summer.

We should get it but haven't seen anything yet. We should get for both adults and one child.
Ours is already spoken for. 1/2 will go to our furnace that we had to buy last fall when it broke. One of my BFF helped paid for it (she had a steller year in real estate) so out of the blue she just paid for it. So I have been paying her back in small amounts. This will take a huge chunk out of that. Then due to some insurance issues, we were stuck with a huge roofing bill 2 years ago and still paying that sucker off.. so the other 1/2 will go to that. But it feels good to get these last two bills out of my hair. We are actually finally doing good after the last 3-4 years struggling. Once those two bills are paid, it will feel sooooo good..

For all the people who “hate socialism” are you still cashing the “stimulus” check?

Ours is showing as a pending deposit for the 15th. DS falls into the donut hole of being over 16, but still a dependent, so he gets nothing and we get nothing for him.

For all the people who “hate socialism” are you still cashing the “stimulus” check? I hate being political, I really do, but I totally thought of all the people that hate hate Trump, why would they accept this check? I'm not judging. I guess if I was so outspoken about (whatever President might be in office, being general) would I accept a check that he (not Trump, just general) is endorsing? I probably would, but I would think that would totally go against what I believed in and make me a hypocrite.

ETA: This falls in line way more with Democratic ideology than with Republican. And, frankly, I can only think of a couple of politicians that disagree with this. Everyone is basically endorsing it, because it would be political suicide to not.

I feel cranky I haven't gotten the check yet. I filed pretty quickly this year - single parent and definitely meet the need. I wonder if it is because my last name begins with an S? Or is it because of SSNs? I have one that starts with a 5. Do you think any of that matters?

I haven't seen anything come in yet but I'm not even sure I'll get anything. I filed Head of Household, but I'm not sure what the AGI threshold is. I think I might get a partial payment, but I'm going into with low expectations. SO is not eligible. This is the exact reason why we haven't gotten married in the 11 years we've been together. He'll mess up my tax advantage!

We aren't getting anything and we're okay with that. We would rather see it go to those who have need and would have donated it if we had gotten anything.

I'm not sure we are going to get something though...if I am reading how the final determination is made, we should get some, but there are some things on our taxes that could impact it and that could mean we are a $0.

Mine is showing as pending until 4/15! We didnt get the full amount because we make just over the max, but with the 2 kids we're at ~$2931. I feel bad because DH and I still have our jobs and are both just working from home, so our financial situation hasn't changed. But his job isn't the most secure so it will be good to sock it away. We need a new car, too, so that's pending.
Kind of shocked that it actually might arrive!

I wish I knew how to see if it is pending. I just found out I have to be someone's stimulus and replace my French doors in the basement. $2K. I don't get anything for my kids because they're over 16. At least I can help out someone though.

I want to know if all the conservatives who don’t want to fund anything, like healthcare for all, because it’s “socialism” are cashing their handout?

I talked to someone in the know who said that the checks are being issued to those with the lowest incomes first. I don’t think that is right. We know a couple who barely qualify due to their high income and they have theirs. We make less then they do and don’t have ours.

Got mine today (the really small amount that I was getting, anyway). I told DD that mine was in and that she needs to start bugging her soon-to-be ex that he owes her half of what goes into his USAA account and to be looking for it.
