One of the interesting things about these times is seeing the homes of celebrities during news and entertainment shows. Last night, Tom Hanks did the SNL monologue and so we got to see a bit of his place along w/the cast's places. But from our local news anchors to the Today Show to PBS shows we get a look inside their places and it's been fascinating. Some look just like our place - warm, cozy, lived in. Some are so stark and cold they look like a high end hotel elevator lobby without a hint that someone actually lives there. Googling around about this, found this article which echoed what I've been experiencing in voyeuring their places. How about you? www.cnn.com/2020/03/25/entertainment/celebrities-homes-coronavirus/index.htmlPS - this must be MURDER on the paparazzi.

Good Morning America was just talking about this less than 5 minutes ago. It has been interesting to peek into their homes.

I have only seen two, because I haven’t had the television on much at all. I saw Chris Cuomo at the bottom of his basement stairs thinking it looked much like mine, and John Krasinski at his desk for SGN. I was thinking, I’ll bet people are zooming in on book titles and photographs inside celebrity homes. I would totally choose a nondescript corner of my house (and I’ve got lots of those to choose from) if I were letting the world see inside my home.

I’m enjoying it a lot. From the local news people to the biggest celebrity, it’s very fascinating.

I’ve only seen the ones on the Today show as well as jimmy Fallon. But I’ve found it Interesting as well. For example—Al Roker in his dining room with the outdated wallpaper. I think I always imagine that they all have the most updated, beautiful homes but they are just as varied as the rest of us in how their houses are styled.
I missed SNL last night but the times I’ve watched the Tonight Show from Jimmy’s house it seems really flat. His tone is not really that funny when he is by himself.

We watched SNL last night and were talking about how Tom Hanks’ kitchen seemed rather small and ordinary for a celebrity kitchen.

Watched online clips of SNL this morning. I too, think it's fascinating, especially like the differences between all the SNL cast members. And Tom Hanks' kitchen is SO dark. I thought it was a law that all California kitchens had to be bright white.
Seth Myers does his A Closer Look from some sort of landing in an old house, because he sits in front of some kind of door leading to what looks like a tiny crawl space.

I think Jimmy Fallon is doing his show from his kid's playhouse.

I was wondering if Hanks was from like their guest home on their property? I know some of them with bigger homes can use other homes on their properties, vs have the camera in their home. I know Jimmy Fallons is in his kids "treehouse", which is probably bigger then most of our homes.

This made me think of something! I watch the Today show too and for some reason it irritates me that the women all dress the same way they normally do, but Al is all sloppy. Tshirts with a flannel over it or a fleece. I can't think of how Craig has been dressing? They've shown Carson a few times but he's basically on paternity leave so he gets a pass for his tshirts. Why can't Al put in some effort? LOL

I've enjoyed seeing the homes, but also the casual aspect of everything on TV. The stars seem more normal like everyone else... no fancy make-up artists or special clothes from the wardrobe department.
I've noticed with Kelly and Ryan that she has to pause a lot more. I know a lot of people complain that she over talks Ryan, but it doesn't appear to be happening now.

I think Jimmy Fallon is doing his show from his kid's playhouse. Is he? He was talking that people thought his was a green screen and then he went outside and climbed through the window. Watched Live PD the other night and Sticks Larkin was in his garage!

Jimmy Fallon is doing his show from a barn on his property. I think the decor is atrocious! Bright yellow plaid wallpaper in the kitchen? It looks like LL Bean had left over fabric from flannel shirts that didn't sell and they just glued it on the walls. That being said, I'm loving the at home edition. I think the jokes fall flat, but I LOVE his girls and I really enjoy when he and his wife go for a walk and talk. Once they go back to filming in the studio, I hope they have a segment with his girls on a regular basis. Franny is a hoot! story about the indoor slide

Gayle King straighten a pillow because a viewer emailed her complaining that it was crooked. I do think it is interesting to see how/where people set up. A local news anchor's head was framed by an arched window behind her which I found weirdly distracting and was happy to see her move to a different spot a couple days later.

I love Stephen Colbert’s dog, who regularly shows up and is a complete spaz. (Edited because I should not have used this word and am sorry for being offensive). And that his adult kids are his technical crew.
One of my favorite news sequences ever was Chris Cuomo at home Zoom/on-air chatting with his brother Andrew Cuomo the other day on CNN. Much of it was like any typical pair of brothers verbally sparring.

Jimmy Fallon is doing his show from a barn on his property. I didn't think it was the main house. I figured he was rich and it was some really big funky playhouse.

I find it comforting to see our regular celebrities, esp at their homes.

Tom Hanks kitchen seemed odd! The cut out in the cabinets above the sink and the fact that those cabinets didn’t go up to ceiling was weird. It looked more like a “stage kitchen”. I also didn’t care for how dark it looked.

I watched Rachel Rays episode from home last week. She had soooo much stuff in her kitchen, on her counters, on her shelves, etc. I’m talking stuff.

I think women have more variable outfits that can be cleaned at home. Just speculation.

I like it when pets drop in. There's a PBS Newshour correspondent, William Brangham, who has a cozy white living room with books and sometimes cats snoozing on the sofa. I look for them.
It all reminds me of the "BBC dad" a couple of years ago whose kids came bopping into the room when he was being interviewed live about North Korea.

I live on the other side of the world and so we never watch live US TV so I haven't seen much (except John K., who I love so much). But yesterday I was looking at Drake's house in Architectural Digest. Guys, his BEDROOM is 3200 square feet. WHAT? That is bigger than my current house and on the big-ish side for houses in the USA. I am completely baffled. His house looks like a fancy hotel in the middle east (where I live).

We watched SNL last night and were talking about how Tom Hanks’ kitchen seemed rather small and ordinary for a celebrity kitchen. And messy! I kept being distracted by the two uneven towels hanging over the stove handle. I know it was his because the shot panned over his typewriter collection, but I was shocked at how relatively small it was. I almost wonder if he is like some people I know who have a real, working kitchen and a "show" kitchen. Or if he left or made it look messy to make himself more relatable. But I am suspicious that way.

There is a local newscaster that is getting a lot of flack.. I believe he is in his basement (finished, but maybe outdated by some standards).. There is a gas fireplace and then above it is a cutout of a circle and it is 3/4 of the way full of wood, apparently for the fireplace but it is just for looks. And the wood is too perfect.. It almost looks like the end of corks but bigger. While it doesn't bother me too much, there are a lot of comments (he has his own news show and he reads his comments good and bad, doesn't matter).. and he reads the ones about his background. It's actually really funny.
Another newscaster looks like she is sitting in a hotel restaurant. You can't see what she is sitting on. 1/2 the wall is dark green and the other 1/2 is white or beige and two pictures to the side of her. I feel like she is sitting in a booth at a restaurant.
There are quite a few newscasters that must live in just your run of the mill apartments. The men seem not to care what is behind them. The women are much better.

Seth Myers does his A Closer Look from some sort of landing in an old house, because he sits in front of some kind of door leading to what looks like a tiny crawl space. it's up in his attic, which is about the third or fourth space he's tried for doing his show... one of the interviews he did was with Martha Stewart, and he asked her what she thought about how he had it decorated- she was diplomatic, but... it was funny! one of Trevor Noah's The Daily Show correspondents did a funny bit on what SHE thought about people's personal spaces... one lady had her books in the background color-coded on the bookshelf! (which I have never personally understood, so I thought her comments about that design choice were pretty spot-on) Here's the sketch: Dulce Sloan roasts the media's homesand here's Seth talking with Martha, asking her what she thinks about his makeshift attic studioPersonally, I really like all the late-night hosts being more casual, doing their show from their homes. Even if the jokes fall a bit flat without any audience, I like seeing them as 'real' people; it makes them seem more relateable to me.
