There is a third man involved who should also be arrested. He is the one who filmed the assault and murder. Allegedly he had Ahmaud boxed in and was prepared to shoot him if he escaped the father and son. Thank goodness someone leaked the video. He filmed it, like to brag about it??? If I read correctly, a third man video taped it. He was a neighbor to the son.

Certainly not to implicate himself and his friends. I'm not sure who leaked it, but speculation is someone in the police department. The second District Attorney on the case stated that the video exonerated the McMichaels before recusing himself. The police had the video from the start of their investigation. And the police department called in the GBI to investigate the leak of the video. Not the content of the video. From Decatirish

Ugh they look exactly as I imagined. I am sickened by this, and doubtful these men will receive anything like the justice they deserve, which would not bring back this young man, but maybe, maybe, make some other armed Yahoos think twice.

So let me get this straight.... Ahmaud was murdered over two months ago and the video has only been released (leaked) now? And the murderers have only just been arrested now? What would have happened if the video hadn't been leaked?
This is disgusting.
Thank god for the 2nd amendment - imagine not being able to defend yourself against a..... jogger! /s

And I love how people keep saying 'Ahmaud was unarmed'.
Ahmaud should be able to jog ARMED if he wanted to.
White men in America can shop armed, protest armed, go to church and the movies ARMED.
If a black man wants to JOG ARMED, HE SHOULD F(#$*ING BE ABLE TO! Goodness knows they have reason to defend themselves against white lynchers.

It's just sickening. It disgusts me.
I'm glad they're been arrested. Hopefully they are actually found guilty and spend the rest of their lives in prison.

Post videos across social media of your run and tag #RunWithMaud or #iRunWithMaud. I have seen so many friends already post their runs and walks with this hashtag. Is that really activism? It *does* call attention to the problem, but it's a mighty easy feel-good action that gives people a false sense that they are making a real difference. I'd be curious what Olan thinks about it. Ugh they look exactly as I imagined. Huh? There's a 'look' to a racist? I live in South Carolina. Our state is full of them. And I can guarantee you they come looking all which-a-ways.

Thank you for reminding me of the danger of stereotyping. I know plenty of racists, I’m sad to say, and know well that they come in many different guises. I read the story, and then saw the mugshot, and yes, based in my own acquaintances, they did look like the kind of guys who would grab guns, jump in a pick up, and think they were going to be heroes with their vigilantism. I also think I was reacting to something in the expressions in their faces. I did not mean to be hateful. And I appreciate the reminder that’s not everybody in the South is racist. Because it is the racists, and their deplorable,( word chosen purposefully ) actions who are the ones I end up hearing about in the news.

And the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was brought in to investigate the video being leaked, not the actual murder. It was public pressure that finally caused them to make an arrest. I will say justice has been served once they are actually convicted and in jail for the rest of their lives. Based on recent history, I’m not holding my breath.

The video was NOT released. From what I’ve read, it was LEAKED. It looks like the police department called in the GBI to investigate a leak, thinking someone in the department leaked the video, but an attorney is the one who posted the video on Youtube. The video was given to him by the man who recorded it. Attorney released the video because " people had a right to know".

Here are some suggestions from Shaun King. Shaun King 24 mins · 🔥ANNOUNCEMENT🔥 The runs and walks for Ahmaud this weekend are STILL ON. Over 85,000 people have signed up and we need you to SHOW UP!! 1. An arrest is not a conviction. 2. The accomplice William Bryan has not been arrested yet. 3. We must not let up. 4. Friday is Ahmaud’s 26th birthday and we want to honor him. 5. Ahmaud was born on Mother’s Day of 1994 and we want his mother to see and feel the love this weekend! 7. Register now @ RunWithMaud.com or click the link in my bio. 8. Be safe with friends and family and stay socially distant. 9. Wear a white t-shirt in honor of Maud, as his family called him. This is what he was wearing on his last run. 10. RUN, if you are able. Cry if you need to. This is an act of protest. 11. Post videos across social media of your run and tag #RunWithMaud or #iRunWithMaud. 12. Sign the super-petition and encourage everybody to join you at RunWithMaud.com. It then emails decision makers all over the country. Please don't pay attention to Shaun King. He's got a horrible history. There are many far more ethical activists to listen to and learn from. For some of his misdeeds.

I read an article about this today and felt so sick in my stomach. I felt even worse when I found out that Georgia doesn't even have a hate crime law so these two racists will be charged as is, without the added time and punishment a hate crime (which they have absolutely done) would have given them. Damn. I just want them to both go to prison without ever having the possibility of parole and suffer every single day inside the walls, among the other hard core murderers looking over their shoulders and worrying about getting beat up and dropping the soap.
It's too good for them because they get to live. Innocent Ahmaud Arbery was doing nothing wrong but out taking a jog for health. His short life is now over and I can't even begin to imagine how horrified he must have felt at the end. His family must go on knowing he was murdered at the hands of two racists who for two months walked about free and clear. What the hell is this country coming to? This would never happen to a white person but it's okay to happen to a black or brown person? It's not!
Sometimes I think it's best to go back to vigilante justice. Let's take these two racists, blindfold and handcuff them and drive them for 2 hours to somewhere they don't know. Then let's take them out to an empty neighborhood with houses and streets and instead of families living in the houses it'll instead be filled with convicted murderers. Then we'll let these two racists loose in the neighborhood to jog, and the convicted murderers loose to "take out" the racists in the exact way they murdered Ahmaud Arbery. Justice and laws be damned.

this is terrible and horrible and what I don't get is why it is so overly important to seek and go after someone who stole some things.. replaceable things.. no one should lose his life over things..
even if this guy was the person committing the crime.. call the cops.. no justification for pulling out guns.. none. and you are not a policeman.. call the cops.

" "An explanation for the Ahmaud Arbery killing became shakier on Friday. The two Georgia men who were caught on video shooting the unarmed jogger to death in February claim they were chasing a suspect behind a series of burglaries in the area. But a local police official said the last break-in the neighborhood was reported nearly two months before the shooting. The last known burglary in the neighborhood happened on Jan. 1, more than seven weeks before the Feb. 23 incident that ended Arbery’s life at the age of 25, Glynn County Police Lt. Cheri Bashlor told CNN on Friday. The New Year Day’s police report states that a 9-mm. pistol was stolen from an unlocked truck outside the home of Gregory and Travis McMichael, the father and son who on Thursday were charged with murder." www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/ny-no-burglaries-reported-for-weeks-before-ahmaud-arbery-killing-20200508-6pp35kjezbeszckj4hwvf2h4be-story.html

The whole thing is sickening. It looked to me like the video was taken by a dash cam. It’s a good thing that the neighbor just happened to come along when the murder occurred and had the camera on.

We have so far to go with this.

You know, I thought precisely the same thing that you wrote on your other post: that they looked exactly like I expected them to look. The only reason I didn't write it before you is because I'd already used that line in reference to the clowns on the steps of the government building, brandishing their AK47s. But yes, there really is a danger in stereotyping racists, because we run the risk of missing the "normal" looking ones right under our noses.

That's what I originally thought too - thank goodness there was someone else who happened to be there and caught it on camera. But I have since read reports that say the neighbour didn't just happen to come across the incident, he jumped in his car to follow the good ol' boys as they chased Ahmaud down the street. So he is potentially almost as complicit as the two murderers.

Bakari was my husband’s student when we were in SC. He was just the nicest person. This is both incredibly disgusting and not that surprising. I had a case in practice where a guy did something very similar (I represented the decedent’s boyfriend who was charged with the attempted burglary of a vacant house and who was also shot). It was on audiotape. The grand jury didn’t indict the shooter.

"They look exactly as I imagined".
This is just the same as judging someone because the color of their skin is dark. No...just no. As a great man once said...Judge a man by the content of his character not by the color of his skin.
What these men did is absolutely reprehensible and absolutely illegal. The common man in the street should never be allowed to be judge and jury.
But saying that these men "look" like what someone "thought" is exactly the same as saying that a black man looks like a criminal. Which we know is not the truth. A criminal is a criminal regardless of the color of his skin. White or black has nothing to do with the criminality of it.
