It's outrageous. I'm so annoyed right now reading this. The DA needs to indict these people and prosecute them to fullest extent of the law. And the saddest part is, there is no true justice no matter what because this man lost his life.

I hadn't heard about this case. Why is he a "former" police officer?
No charges filed. Imagine that. There are homes under construction here, sometimes while jogging I like to peek in and see how they're coming along. I can't imagine living in a world where that could get me shot.
We're a fairly diverse neighborhood where I live, and I like to think it wouldn't happen here, but then I read this shit and again realize the disparity of justice.

I keep passing by without commenting because I'm just overwhelmed by the very idea, and that no-one has been arrested. I don't even have words really, except - why are some people such cowardly evil assholes and why are they allowed to pollute our society. Not only is it murder, it sounds like it meets the criteria for a hate crime as well.
(dumb question - do you have the notion of hate crimes in the US? I assume so).

I used the article to talk to my three boys about racism, and how we need to stand up against it in everyday life. We also talked about privilege and how that affects things. |

I just did a search to see if this murder was being discussed yet here. It's an absolute miscarriage of justice that the murderers are not being prosecuted yet. Especially when compared with the woman in Texas who had the governor go to bat in her favor because of a supposed "injustice." I supposed it's too much to ask that the governor of Georgia might step in and strongly suggest that the DA go ahead and prosecute the case without reference to a grand jury. In light of the video that's come out, it seems they have quite a bit more than probable cause to bring charges. (Of course it is too much to ask, because the governor of GA stole the election from Stacey Abrams, who would likely have made an effort on this case.)
As far as what we can do - my first answer would be to work to elect officials who will seek justice in cases like these instead of letting white people off the hook time and time again.

They have been both arrested today and charged with murder and assault

There is a third man involved who should also be arrested. He is the one who filmed the assault and murder. Allegedly he had Ahmaud boxed in and was prepared to shoot him if he escaped the father and son. Thank goodness someone leaked the video.  |

It's even sadder that those of us who have been paying attention aren't even shocked by this anymore.... I'm a 59 yo white woman who is horrified by what is happening and has been happening to black and brown people in this country all along. It's more blatant than ever now. Not to mention what has been done to indigenous peoples. The rest of us are all immigrants! |

Did you see DA George Barnhill's disgusting recommendation that the murderers not be charged?
He called the murder victim a "criminal suspect" and said "Arbery's mental health records and prior convictions help explain his apparent aggressive nature and his possible thought pattern to attack an armed man." First of all, Mr. Arbery had no history of arrests or mental illness from what I have read. Second, wouldn't any person be terrified by two armed men chasing them down in a vehicle?
Barnhill must be recalled. This whole situation is just beyond horrific.
