I am watching the organizational class on Scrapbook.com on my lunch break and she puts everything that is related to a theme together. Does anyone do that? Does it work for you? Let's use "Birthday" for a theme. Everything related to birthday goes there, paper, stamps, ephemera, dies, stickers, ect...thoughts on this? I'm kind of afraid to do it, I don't know why. Also, some of my stuff is "celebratory" but I kind of keep it with birthday because...why, not sure, lol.

Yes I do this. But it all fits in a iris case. I have about 7ish themes that I have in cases. Other themes that I have very little of I just keep the items in an old page protector in a paper organizer. I try to have larger themes when possible, ie animals instead of breaking it down by zoo, pet, water animals, etc.

I do this for baby, Halloween, Christmas, Disney and birthday. I find it works quite well for me. I couldn’t do it for too many things though, there are too many that would cross contaminate. I keep my papers for each theme in bags and the embellishments in bins. .

Given I'm generally theme-challenged & tend to buy versatile papers (e.g. solid cardstock & classic patterned papers, such as stripes, plaids, dots) & tools (e.g. stamps, dies, stencils, embossing folders), theme-based organization doesn't work for me. However, if you approach scrapping & buy supplies in themes, it may be ideal for you. Consider giving it a trial run with a theme you intend to scrap a few layouts/cards/whatever with next. Gather all your supplies for that theme - papers, embellishments, tools, etc. - in one container/shelf & see if you like it. If so, you can transition your supplies to the theme-based organizational system project-by-project if you don't want to tackle your entire inventory at one time. If you don't like the theme-based approach, you can simply return the relatively few supplies for one theme to your existing organizational system. Best wishes...

Yep, I do this. I put everything in 2 gallon ziplocs that then go in a hard-sided vertical storage thing, or in Iris cases. It so works perfectly for me that I can't imagine why it wouldn't work for everyone, lol Generic paper goes in a paper rack and generic embellishments go in this...https://www.containerstore.com/s/craft-hobby/Craft-Organizers/stackable-craft-organizer-drawers/1qd?productId=11008488 I love organizing my supplies so much, I kinda wish it was my job

Definitely depends on how your brain works, how you scrap, and what your stash looks like.
I keep all my Christmas stuff together with just a few things that are Christmas-but-not-JUST-Christmas pulled out. I think it also depends on how you actually store stuff. I'm assuming you're watching Totally Tiffany and in most ways I really like her systems, but I just don't have the space to organize like she does, even if my crafting style was more in line with what she does.
I think if you started to sort things her way and couldn't decide which theme it would go into it would be a sign that your brain or stash doesn't work that way.

I'm mostly an event scrapper so I have my embellishments and collections organized by topic.

Yes, everything goes in one bin. Now if I have too much I might put the paper in one bin or like with baby. I might have infant in one and toddler in another, and might have boy and girl split in 2 bins.
It works for me to have everything together like that.

Definitely depends on how your brain works, how you scrap, and what your stash looks like. ^^^ THAT. You have to think thru your process for creating a card, scrapbook page, project, and THEN decide how to store your supplies so they match the way you work. I've done scrapbooking for 25+ years now, and I've only recently figured this out for myself, lol. I will never use 'pretty boxes' or "whatever's trendy" for storage 'just because' ever again. (hopefully not, anyway) There is no way I would do 'everything of a theme together' because that's not how I scrap. I will pull together papers from categories like tone-on-tone, stripe, Southwest, vintage, etc. and use them all on the SAME layout. There's no way I would get anything accomplished if I had to pull out ALL of my 'vintage' stuff just to find one piece of paper to (maybe) use on a layout about a totally different topic. All of my supplies are separated into the types of categories that *I* use when looking for them: 1) paper (subdivided into categories such as the ones listed above); 2) 3x4 and 4x6 cards (subdivided into categories just like the paper); 3) washi tape / ribbon (all in one case); small embellishments (separated by type, in 4x6 photo cases); 4) stamps I use on SB pages (stored in a 12x12 iris case), 5) stickers and die cuts stored in 3-ring binders (separated into categories similar to the paper categories), etc. I decided to store my things this way because that's the way I approach a project: First I look for papers, then I look for stickers + small embellishments, then I decide if I want to stamp on the page, etc. etc. The only exception to storage this rule is Christmas-themed papers and embellishments, because I have so little of it. THAT all goes into one 12x12 Iris case. But even then, the stamps, washi, ribbon, etc. are stored with the rest of my other supplies of that type. I don't want to miss out on an opportunity to use a red/white striped ribbon or washi tape on a random scrapbook layout because when I bought it originally, Michael's decided it was a Christmas design.

I never store my tools with paper & other consumables. It would be weird to me. So no I don’t put my themed stamps i with my themed die cut or paper.

It also doesn't have to be all or nothing. Some of my paper is organized by theme, some by collection, some by designer and some by color. As long as YOU know where to find what you want that's what is the best for you.
My stamps are all together but sorted by themes. I'd love to put my embossing folders and metal dies with them too but I don't have a storage solution large enough for that at the moment.

I keep my embellishments by theme in Iris cases. Paper is sorted by theme, where possible, in 12x12 clear envelopes. I don't like having paper in with my embellishments.
Stamps are all together in clear envelopes, standing in a bin.

Yup, this! This is exactly what I think would happen. I only keep very obviously themed things together. A red and white striped washi would not be Christmas themed to me. A holly berry washi would be. Make your own rules!

Yup, this! This is exactly what I think would happen. For me since it isn’t necessarily Christmas it wouldn’t have gotten sorted, it would have stayed with the general population. Now, the washi tape that has Rudolph faces would be in the Christmas bin. The only things in my Christmas bin are distinctly Christmas. You don’t have to sort everything into categories.

I sort almost everything by theme b/c that is how I LOOK for stuff when I am crafting. So Birthday w Birthday, wedding/anniversary together, sports with sports, little boy w little boy, etc. Stickers and brads and other embellishments are often stored with their themes. Stamps are stored by theme in a separate cupboard. My biggest themes are seasonal, and sometimes those are separated too: FALL, with sections for Back to School and Thanksgiving and Halloween; SPRING with a section for Easter, etc. A huge corner cupboard houses all things CHISTMAS... I try to keep the door shut on that rabbit hole from when I have finished my holiday pages about the end of January and when I start making holiday cards in October. Ho---Dooor---
Cardstock is sorted by colour, and I put some heavier sb pp's in that drawer too if they have subtle background patterns. I also have a drawer for mixed media type papers. At the back there are old BG and LYB papers that I pull out when I need just the right element for my project.
Washi, twine, ribbon, wood veneer, metals, have their own bins.

Things are by theme within their own storage area ( dies are in ‘trays’ by theme. Die it’s ephemera are also by theme.

No!! I'm a rainbow scrapbooker, so all patterned paper/cardstock/embellishments are sorted by color. The only exception to this is the larger sticker sheets. I used to cut everything up and put in their colored containers but I quickly ran out of room, so now I keep my sticker/chipboard on the sheet they come in, but in the same container. I use this Totally Tiffany cart with the paper handlers to store paper and sticker sheets. I use two of these 4x6 photo organizers for embellishments. My process is pick photos, pick papers, pick layout and assemble. Then go through and pull out any possible sticker sheets and all coordinating color embellishment boxes. I'm a very slow scrapper because of this process, but it's what works for me. I used to sort by collection (and in my brain sorting by theme is similar), but decided that doesn't work for me. I tend to get stuck in a corner that way. I completely redid my whole organization a couple years ago and it's made such a difference! That being said, I do keep any holiday specific stuff separate, but I intend to integrate it into my "regular" stash because otherwise it will never get used! The exception to this is Christmas because I don't have any holiday photos to scrap. Christmas stuff is used to make cards (that I never actually make) and paper bag books/mini albums that I sell.

Yes, but... only for a few categories. 2 Iris boxes for everything winter and Hanukkah. 1 Iris box for Disney. 1 Iris for baby. Halloween can fit in a ziplock bag now.
ETA: I lied. I do have a bag for Halloween paper and flat things, but my Halloween stamps and dies are in other places.

I don’t have the storage space to do it. I have my paper grouped by theme on one wall. There is no way that stamps, embellishments, or dies would fit in there, too. Different items require different storage containers.
At least that is the way my brain and craft room work.

I am not someone who sorts by theme or by color. I’ve tried both and neither works with the way I think. I put all of my die cuts together, all of my alpha stickers together, all of my stamps together, all of my paper together, all of my ribbon together, etc. Exceptions are Christmas stuff goes together and I keep many kits together (at least until I use a good chunk of them—then the items go with the respective items.)
I had to figure out how my mind works, try a couple of different things/ways, and eventually find a process that works for me. It’s still a work in progress, but at least I’m making progress with my organization.

yes - I'm definately a sort by theme person (except for cardstock/paper - with a few exceptions*, it's sorted by colour)
* paper that is SO themed that it can only be used for that theme is with the theme - so Santa Claus paper? Christmas. Striped Halloween paper? with the predominant colour
my BIG themes are in drawers (sterilite 3 drawer units that fit 12x12 paper) - Navy, Military, Christmas, Travel, and Girl Scouts. The others are in a hanging file box in page protectors (inside the hanging folder)
Stamps and embossing folders and dies are stored with similar items not in theme

I keep one container for Christmas everything ,one for Basketball for my sons album Cardstock and PP by colour Embellies by type- wood veneer/enamel dots/puffy stickers etc Stamps by theme categories The only exception is all my unicorns-OA is all together/sassafras all together Hmmmmm- but when I scrap I make up little kits enough for 3/4 pages. I have 6 of these made up ready to use and any one time I just pull out the photos and pick out the kit that seems a good match

I do this for some categories but not all. Things like Christmas, Birthday, Holidays that aren't Christmas, TTravel and School all get their own sections. But for everything else, all together it goes, sorted by item.

I only have a couple of things that I sort by theme, and how far down that "everything together" road is totally dependent on the subject. I keep very obviously themed birthday embellishments in a 4x6 iris photo box, including words like "celebrate" which I'm unlikely to use on other layouts, and even if I want to I know they live with my birthday supplies, but stamps and papers live with my other stamps and papers. Christmas I've gone more all in for. Papers are still stored with other papers, but all other embellishments, washi, stamps, etc are in one place. As others have said, a candy cane stripe washi would live with my other washi, but reindeer washi goes with the Christmas supplies. Each year when I scrap my December photos I build a kit starting with the supplies I have here, then add from the rest of my stash.

A lot of my items are in themes but not grouped together. I have my stamps in themes, I have my pattern paper in themes, etc... Cardstock is separated by colors and type.
I was keeping my die cut ephemera packs together by designer. I don't know why I did this. They became these little packs of jewels that I would admire but not use. Last week I took them apart and put those in themes. I am much happier.
Scrap admission time- I even donated pieces of the ephemera packs I would never use. Gasp! I know, blasphemous, lol.

I do this, somewhat.
Paper & tools are not kept with the themed embellishments.
I have gallon sized bags for each theme's embellishments.
If I had the space, i would love to have 12x12 Sterilite drawers to hold each theme (birthday, Christmas, Halloween, etc).
I would keep embellishments, dies, punches, & stamps in those drawers. Paper would still be kept separate.
