I feel like starting some new conversations about scrapbooking.
What bugs you about scrapbook supplies?
My peeves: Collections that use both white and cream. I'm looking at you Vicki Boutin! I love her collections but... Die cut packets with too many cliche phrases. "Best Day Ever" "Shine Bright", etc. Die cut packets with too many words in general- I want objects. Die cut packets with too many square pieces- I want a variety of shapes. I love die cuts but sometimes I have to throw out 1/3 of the things because they don't work for me.

Alphas that have 2 letter N and 3 letter Z.
Teeny tiny stickers and die cuts.
12x12 paper that is not 12", especially after cutting off branding strip.

My biggest pet peeve is the lack of variety overall. When there are breakout collections they are so popular, but they are few and far between. Pink Paislee's Hey Kid is an example of a line going in a better direction. Not necessarily with colors or patterns, but at least embraced the idea that girls like more than pastel bikes and are cute princesses and boys don't just skateboard and play sports. Pink Fresh has had a few lines that are much better, but overall the industry SUCKS at designing diverse lines. Color variety is one of the reasons I am so attracted to most of what Vicki Boutin has been putting out. Not to mention, it seems that all kids are young in scrapbook design world. I have a daughter that identifies as a girl, but is also into science, is an EMT and firefighter, is going into med school, wears converse and Vans and lots of black concert tee shirts. She's not a pink/pastel girl. The current scrapbook lines don't cut it for me when I am scrapbooking her life. I have a son that is a student and loves computers. He's not into sports, skateboarding, retro rock and roll, or sports. Why does almost every line have to be so hyper stereotypical? As a result, I end up dies cutting and designing a lot of my embellishments for both of my kids, as well as my husband and myself, because he's not handy, loving cars, or having a mustache and I don't do a lot of cooking, gardening, riding pastel bikes, or sewing. My peeves: Pinks and soft pastels over and over again (I do like all colors, but come on!) Ubber genderized icons and sayings Only bright and happy words and sayings Florals, so many florals and again in soft pastel colors Scrapbook designers with both boy and girl children, seem to only design and show samples with their daughters (where are their sons and husbands?) and their young children in mind (except Shimelle, but she's done) Sorry! I seem to have gotten in a bandstand here. But, you asked.

I love her collections but... Oh, this! I ordered some Amy Tangerine earlier this year and thought I was getting paper with a white background. Nope. Cream. So disappointed. Actually i agree with everything else on all 3 lists so far..

Glues that don't stick.
Stickers that don't stick.
Bottles that clog immediately after one use.
Paints that dry up and can't be revived.

Pink in every collection. And all you hear is it the most requested color and it sells.

4 by 6 cut aparts (Simple Stories has a lot of them) I can never get those to work on my layouts since they are usually larger than my photos... Pink everything, and I have two girls... There is not enough music themed scrapbook supplies, and since my kids are in orchestra, I don't need a trumpet, drum set, or clarinet along with my violin sticker (and one of my children plays the viola NOT the violin, where are the violas?). My oldest dd read the music on a piece of pp recently and told me the notes were all wrong and not to use it on her page There are more days in the school year than 'first day of school and more months than September (and we sometimes start in August...) Not enough science/math STEM themes. Sports: variety (my kids do cross country, bowling, and track). Also my youngest ds (he's 6) soccer team lost every game, all that winner stuff doesn't apply... I will stop now

“Best day ever” enough already. Literally, should only be using this once or it’s not true, lol.
Bicycle with basket of flowers on it. I mean when is the last time you’ve actually seen someone with flowers on a bike. My daughter is a competitive cyclist, how about some race bikes? Already purchased some of the new Kaiser craft line with bikes but I still want more.
Enough with the florals. I mean it’s pretty and all but soooo much out there. And I have two daughters and I’m sick of it. Can’t imagine how the boy moms must feel.

That I never have what I want? No matter how much I have I’ll be in the middle of a project & think ‘if I only had x’ that would be the perfect touch.

I agree with all of the things listed in general so far. For me, a lot of the collections are just too theme-y overall. What about some lines with just subtle patterns and colors that go well together but are NOT floral, and not specific to a certain theme?

I want a cut apart journaling card sheet with actual room to journal on the cards, not just phrases and icons!
More collections with one sheet that has a journaling lines b side like Shimelle has in each collection.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I wrote this post, but I didn't want to turn this thread into another whine about "I miss Basic Grey" (but I do!!). It's like you read my mind.

Most of what has been listed here.
I think this is why it takes me so long to scrapbook. I end up having to make all my embellishments because I can’t find anything that suits my family well. Like another poster mentioned, my DH does not wear a mustache. He’s not into sports or hot cars. I have 4 sons and one daughter, all grown, and I have grandkids, but again, they do activities that are rarely incorporated into scrapbook supplies.
And that is precisely why I love my Cameo, so I can create my own designs as needed.

I haven’t had to deal with this lately, but stickers that aren’t quite cut all the way through. Stickers that aren’t sticky. Cut apart sheets with no cards with space to journal on.

It seems I'm on the Silhouette store site all the time looking for something weird, like (recently) an Adirondack chair, or swans ( why are there thousands of flamingos but no swans??, LOL).

I’m tired of so many cut aparts and animals that most people are not seeing or having contact with in our everyday lives. I’d like to see more collections that are less themed and more daily life with a bit more subtlety . I don’t always want every paper in a collection to be so bold.
Also, I have to say that the price increases on embellishments make me less likely to buy them and more likely to make my own embellishments.

Not really on topic, but I have found that by adding a question mark at the end of "best day ever" cards they can then apply to all sorts of mediocre days.

I don't like that a company comes out with something innovative, so you buy it. Shortly after that, five companies come out over time, with the same thing, with little changes that you like better. So, you want to by that one. On and on it goes. (Blending brushes is a good example)

I rarely scrapbook anymore, but I do make cards and other things, so here’s mine:
The lack of hockey items. My dgs has played hockey since he was 5 (he’s now 13) and I’m still struggling to find hockey anything. If I can find anything there is 1 hockey element among 2 dzn other sports items And for Pete’s sake why is it mostly goaltenders? His other sport Baseball is almost as hard to find. I usually resort to digital images or cutting SVGs.

First, the fact that the supplies multiply and move like lava into every available space.
Thickers and other stickers that fall off, or when you try to take them off the backing it pulls the adhesive off.
Ugly art work. I have seen the ugliest unicorns and other art work that would make an otherwise nice piece of paper look terrible.
Tiny stickers are worthless unless you are under 5 years old.
Beautiful papers on both sides making it necessary to buy 2, except the individual sheet is part of a kit so you would have to buy 2 kits. For example, Echo Parks Stateside papers - both sides can be equally used but you have to buy 2 entire kits to use both sides. So if I want both Indiana papers I would have to spend $40.
Papers that have cut aparts on both sides so you have to decide which one you really want more than the other.
I think 12x12 was a ridiculous size to make standard. 10x10 or even 11x11 is better than 12x12. I understand it equals 4 4x6 photos but the word cropping means to cut, so I think we could have made do with trimming and editing photos. Storing 12x12 albums is a nightmare, looking at them is unwieldy and you can't easily scan, print, or mail 12x12.
I'm coming back as I think of other things.

In the same vein as best day ever I'd be happy to never see bloom or blessed again.
Cardstock with a branding strip annoys me when I want to use it for a 12x12 background, although I'll admit it has it's uses when I'm printing cut aparts or whatever and need that little bit of extra length.
Travel lines that all have the Eiffel tower. Why do they have to so heavily feature any iconic travel destination? Why can't they just use generic travel iconography that can be used for all types of vacations?
And I'll also agree with alphas that have a high number of difficult to use letters like j, q, v, and z, in relation to all the more commonly used letters. I especially dislike packs where there are the same number of every letter.
