I just found out that DH ordered a 12’ screen and projector so we can show movies in the backyard. We have a deck that steps down onto a patio so we can sit outside and watch a movie. We also did it so our son can have 2 friends over and sit far apart from each other and watch “together.” Our deck is about 20’ long-when my DH and his dad built it they didn’t want it as long/big as I wanted it. Now my DH is happy that I insisted on the bigger size vs the size he wanted, lol.

Thanks for the info! I look up books on amazon to read what they are about then pin them. Then I will check for them at the library. Some books say "kindle edition" next to the title. So I have no idea what it means. Is it a book you can check out at the library or buy at a store? Or does kindle own the book so you only get it through kindle? I have no idea how to attach a picture so I can't show you what I mean. I notice some say the book is free for kindle unlimited. I don't know if that is a monthly subscription? I am so clueless about kindles! But I am excited about it at the same time. I have no idea how many books it can store. If it says 'kindle edition' it means its an ebook you can buy for your kindle specifically. Once you buy it, it will automatically download to your kindle. You own the book but its formatted for kindle specifically. Kindle Unlimited is a separate service that you pay $9.99 per month and you get to read all the books and magazines Amazon has in their program. I don't have Kindle unlimited to tell you if it's worth it or not. I have prime so I get a few books each month for free and at least monthly Amazon has $1.99 sales on select kindle books. Basically, all you have to do set up your kindle is 1) add your WiFi login 2)Add your Amazon login. Then everything happens pretty much automagically. Thanks so much! You are very helpful! I probably won't get kindle unlimited, as I don't read that fast (just before bed). But I will use the prime and I saw some kindle books for $3.99, and the monthly amazon sales. I can't wait to try this out! My husband took off work this week, so I will have him help me figure it out (and I have no idea what the passwords are! ![](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ).

I am so clueless about kindles! But I am excited about it at the same time. I have no idea how many books it can store. They can come in 2 forms: kindle or the other kind. If it is kindle then the library will have you check it out and then gives you a link to Amazon where you can have it sent to your phone. On the Amazon page make sure you click on "borrow"? and not "buy". Then you can download it to your kindle, kindle app on your phone or kindle app on your computer. The other kind you can use a overdrive, libby or maybe another kind of app. Since I am reading on my phone either way I prefer using the libby app as it takes fewer steps to check out and gives me options like having the next person in line get the book and then I will get it again - its nice when all your books come out of hold at the same time. If you only want to read on a kindle then make sure they have a kindle version of the book. Thanks so much! You and catmom have been so helpful. I am going to screenshot both posts to help me start my kindle library!

I am not certain if you count alcohol as big, but it is hella big. I think I have spent more on alcohol in the past 2 months than I have in the past 3 years. No joke. In the first weeks, I was so anxious, I drank every night and so did my 23yo DD. I gave some away to neighbors who were desperate, but I don't want to run out so I have a good 3 cases of wine and 1 case of beer. I don't drink hard liquor, so I don't have to worry about that, but I don't like either cheap wine or cheap beer. Sigh. Fortunately, now, drinking is limited to weekends again.
I was thinking of buying a freezer, but that purchase should have been made months ago. No small ones to be found and the next size up is too big (over 5cu ft is just too big for me) and way WAY too $$$$.

I love my kindle its really easy to use and borrow books from the library. I have cards from three counties as our county has very limited ebooks. Many may even allow you to apply for a card online right now.

I was hoping for some enabling here. Since I can't just go shopping I have extra money.
Today TJMaxx opened up and i went and tried to follow their stupidly planned out one-way aisles but that was hopeless. When I was done picking out my non-essential pillow, candle, candle holder, and Mexican flower pot, the checkout line had suddenly ballooned to what must have been a 25 minute wait. It stretched for miles. I put my stuff back and left.
I talked myself out of a pandemic water lizard, chameleon, and fancy mouse at Petco for Mother's Day. Mostly only because I know my orange tabby would never give them a moment's peace and would constantly be stalking and sitting on the cages.
I JUST WANT SOME GODDAMNED THROW PILLOWS AND ACCENT LAMPS AND RUGS AND CANDLES AND SEASONAL MERCURY GLASS ITEMS, STUFF ALL US MOMS CRAVE
I want new furniture but this is all only not even two years old.
I want a new car but ditto, plus I want to keep this car.
I want a Bengal kitten but I have 3 cats and a dog who ask get along and I don't want to upset the apple cart.
I love spending money but I'm also feeling really cheap. Sigh. Maybe Aldi will have some cheap thrills.

My biggest purchase has been groceries. Seriously. I used to be the one with the stocked freezer and pantry but after divorce and DS being only one else still in the nest, I had been starting to shop more as needed and dwindling all things down for when I decide to move.
Then this and the inability to come and go as I please had me reversing course and stocking up some again. Not quite as much as before and meat wise mostly chicken as that's what the two of us eat the most of.
So having things on hand again has probably been my biggest expense. Hopefully it'll be better now, just cycling and replacing what we use.
Just glad I didn't sell the extra freezer which I had been considering.

My DS graduated this spring and will hopefully get the job offer he has been "promised" next month and will move out of his student apartment into something all his own and he will need furniture. I can gift him the leather couches I don't love and get the velvet couches I have my eye on. But nothing can move forward until he gets the official offer.

Replaced all of our kitchen appliances. Our dishwasher died so we figured we would get all new ones... very strange decision for us but I blame it on covid anxiety lol

I might get a pair of velvet chairs for my game room, though, because I can keep them out of there when I'm not in there.

Since there won't be any vacationing, we'll be doing some landscaping this summer.

An expensive swingset for DS. Picking it up on Sunday. We’ve talked for months about getting him one for his birthday but originally decided against it. We chose a trip to Disneyland instead plus we frequent the parks and playgrounds all summer long. Well the Disney trip is off of course and who knows when the playgrounds will open again so swingset it is. Knowing how long it takes DH to finish a project, I’ll be lucky if it’s up before the poor kids birthday mid-June.

As soon as the shelter in place was announced in the Bay Area in March we ordered a Peloton. We had mildly toyed with the idea of getting one for about 6 month, but I highly doubt we would have purchased it this year. And I know that if I had other choices for exercise, I would not have chosen that as my primary form of exercise. But now that it's become a habit, I will definitely continue using once shelter in place is lifted by choice.

I bought an Aerogarden in March. And a couple of big yarn and fabric orders to have plenty of projects to work on.
The house was in the works way before Covid. But I'm glad to be moving to an area with lower population density and cleaner air.

A peloton and dh is building me a patio. How do you like the peleton? I never liked exercise bikes, but with all the controversy about their ad, I did some research and thought it sounds like a great way to exercise!
Your husband sounds very handy! My husband has been wanting a patio near our deck, and I wish I was handy and could build him one! Post a picture when he finishes. I hope it warms up so you can enjoy it (still "winter" here in southwest pa).
I'm obsessed with mine! I got mine January 2019 and I hit 489 rides tonight, 934 total workouts (yoga, meditation, strength, stretching, etc). I had never taken a spin class. It has been my sanity saver during this time. I have 4 kids, 2 elementary age that are schooling from home and 2 too little for school. It is hands down the best purchase we have made!

I bought a $400 sewing machine. I had been thinking about upgrading my basic one for a while and it kept jamming while I was sewing masks. Sewing machines have been flying off the shelves since lockdown, but I managed to get the last one of my choice from an independent retailer.

You can customize bookbub so it tailors the offerings to your interests. I have absolutely loved getting my books this way, and until 4 years ago I truly felt that only paper books would do.

We're pretty nervous to spend money but shortly before the pandemic we moved into a house with a pool and I bought a peloton. I'm so grateful for both of those things right now! We're doing a lot of our own projects instead of hiring them out. It takes a lot longer but it is saving us a ton of money. Also decided to shelve all travel plans. We might go somewhere at Christmas but we're not doing anything before then which will save us quite a bit of money (we usually take 2-3 pretty big trips every year)

I bought a Fender jazz bass because I've been wanting to try the shorter/narrower bridge to see if it works better for me. It should be here Wednesday. I never liked fenders because they are so heavy. Are the newer models lighter? ETA: I haven't played in years. But I've been considering it again. I did love it.

Not very big purchases but stuff we wouldn't have bought otherwise.
We got some new board games from our local shop before they temporarily closed. (my son has been going there for years, so we wanted to support them, we spent a about $250 I think)
We also have bought a rower and a recumbant bike for the basement because our gym is closed - we plan on keeping them for the long haul as we don't think it will safe to go back for a long time.
We are car shopping right now because the prices have dropped a lot near us. Used cars, we've narrowed down to Honda CRV, just trying to decide which year/mileage. We probably would have waited longer as we don't really need a 2nd car right now but I do expect prices to go back up.

We signed a contract to build a screened-in porch. Have been wanting to do it for years and being at home so much, we were able to finally got several bids and settled on a contractor. From there we got the design down, and are just waiting for the call that they're ready for start. Hopefully end of June they'll get started. I can't wait!

Oh my God that is a completely unacceptable level of adorable! What is he/she? She is a 14 week old Yorkiepoo. She’s adorable. What’s her name? Both my sister’s got puppies. 1 bought a cavapoo. The other a bichipoo. I have a 16 yo toy poodle who couldn’t take a puppy or I’d get one too. Our big purchases were planned before this started. New garage roof, new blacktop driveway and mattress & bed. Unplanned purchases have been small things like new running shoes, athleisure clothes and a sun shade for the side of our backyard pavilion. Trying to talk dh into a lake house but he just isn’t on board. We downsized a few years ago with the intent of getting a winter house or condo. We can’t agree on where to even look though. Lake areas are not on his list. He’d also like an RV. I’m not on board with that.

I bought a kindle paperwhite at the beginning when the libraries closed. I never wanted one, I like real books. But I had no idea how long this would last, and wanted to have it as a backup. I have had it for 2 months and haven't even tried it out. But I'm not liking the books I have, so I may have to try to figure out how to use it, buy books and borrow library books (I have no idea how to explain that). I thought I would only use my Nook when we travelled, but I like it more than I thought I would. I switched to a tablet with the Nook app when it died. Real books are the best, but digital is great sometimes, too. I also love audio books from the library. Try it!
