Anyone made a bigger purchase just because of the pandemic?
I bought a PS4 a few weeks ago to give us more stuff to do, and I just bought a Roomba because I hate vacuuming with the heat of a thousand suns. It was either buy a roomba or sell our cats (jk).
I would buy a spin cycle if I could find any in stock - I keep looking for a Schwinn or Horizon but no luck. Not willing to shell the bucks for a peloton.
And in a really big purchase category... we've been toying with selling our house and moving to something smaller or further away so we can be mortgage-free. I was thinking of a condo overlooking the water in downtown Toronto.
But now I'm nervous of the tight spaces and all the shared spaces and surfaces. Plus its a terrible time to lose a back yard and pool. So now I'm considering getting a house near the waterfront further west so we can have still have a pool and be near bike paths and the beach. The commute would be god-awful though. So the pandemic is actually changing the type and location of house I'm considering.

We bought a ginormous umbrella for our back yard. We also bought a hammock but that was my mothers day gift. I'm honestly afraid to spend money - I don't know when DH will be able to go back to work.

We are looking to get a whole house fan installed. I also want to redo my closet but not there yet. I suggested for DH to look into a new car, but he didn't see anything that fit his needs/wants.

We bought a Peloton and replaced our robot vacuum cleaner. I had to replace my sewing machine after my previous one bit the dust on a really cut denim pouch I was working on broke the needle and jammed too much up that could reasonably be fixed.
As for the house situation - I would definitely keep some outdoor space between you and neighbors. Not only due to the pandemic we are in but I also like to have a small garden and plants in the ground, not spread across containers.

I considered a "working treadmill" that allows you to work on your laptop as you walk. There was one listed on our local auction site that ended up selling for $170 (list price $900). I wasn't sold on that particular model due to some poor reviews, but if I could have gotten it for under $100, I would have tried it.
I am thinking about a standing desk. We are probably going to continue at least some work-from-home hours in the fall, and I want something that gets me off my duff. I did buy a new office chair because the chair I was using was not adjustable and cause my sciatica to flare up. It's better now, but for long term, I would like a standing desk (or the treadmill LOL).

I read parts are made in plant that was closed in China so maybe a while before back in stock. 😔 First world problems but could connect more with a few friends that play so was hopeful.

I bought a Fender jazz bass because I've been wanting to try the shorter/narrower bridge to see if it works better for me. It should be here Wednesday.

We ordered an upright freezer and are just ‘waiting’ on delivery. That could be another month.

We bought a portable a/c unit yesterday. It has been in the high 80's for the last couple days here and our house just wasn't cooling down at night. We have talked about getting one for several years but never did. Since DH will be working from home until at least October and the kids and I might be stuck at home during the summer we decided now was the perfect time.

We’ve considered looking for a bigger house but love the lot we’re on now so instead we’re getting quotes for a big (40’x15’) patio cover. I keep telling DH it’ll be cheaper than moving. lol

No, I haven't bought anything new that isn't essential. I don't have money to waste at the moment plus I'm trying to do my part to keep essential workers safe. Don't want people having to to deliver willy nilly to me.

I bought a kindle paperwhite at the beginning when the libraries closed.
I never wanted one, I like real books. But I had no idea how long this would last, and wanted to have it as a backup. I have had it for 2 months and haven't even tried it out. But I'm not liking the books I have, so I may have to try to figure out how to use it, buy books and borrow library books (I have no idea how to explain that).

A peloton and dh is building me a patio. How do you like the peleton? I never liked exercise bikes, but with all the controversy about their ad, I did some research and thought it sounds like a great way to exercise!
Your husband sounds very handy! My husband has been wanting a patio near our deck, and I wish I was handy and could build him one! Post a picture when he finishes. I hope it warms up so you can enjoy it (still "winter" here in southwest pa).

Once you open it up you'll find its easy to use and buy from. A little too easy to buy in my opinion. The number of impulse purchases I've made for/on the kindle is just insane. Plus every month Amazon has a few free books for Prime members and they regularly have $1.99 sales so.... yeah I have about 100 books in my kindle library. It's a bit embarrassing. At least its digital so no one can see that I'm a secret book hoarder. I'm not sure about borrowing from the library but I think if you go to your library's website they will have instructions. I still have some paper books though and can't part with them. They'll always be special to me. Like vinyl I guess.

No, but I've been tempted. I was looking at a small fridge at Sam's thinking it could probably fit somewhere in our basement, but some of the long-term reviews made me think twice so I haven't even brought up the idea to DH. We are planning to buy a new grill soon, but we've been needing to replace our old one for a couple of years ("not sure it's going to make it to the end of this year's grilling season" is what we've said for a while...)
I am glad that we bought a new laptop last fall for DH & our 14yo to use because the 14yo would not have gotten any school work done on the really old & slow laptop!

I look up books on amazon to read what they are about then pin them. Then I will check for them at the library. Some books say "kindle edition" next to the title. So I have no idea what it means. Is it a book you can check out at the library or buy at a store? Or does kindle own the book so you only get it through kindle? I have no idea how to attach a picture so I can't show you what I mean. I notice some say the book is free for kindle unlimited. I don't know if that is a monthly subscription? I am so clueless about kindles! But I am excited about it at the same time. I have no idea how many books it can store.

I have been buying and buying and buying. The biggest thing is a 3 piece bookcase wall unit. I have purchased 3 other bookcases, an entertainment stand and display cabinet for DS1, Kate Spade and other Poshmark purchases to the tune of 3-4 packages a day, and I got on ebay to check values of some of my collections and ended up buying 10 pieces to add to 3 collections. Now these are collections I no longer add to, but now I went and added to them.
The madness has got to stop, but it is so easy to just migrate to a site and 'look.'

Treadmill.
We bought a fancy dyson vacuum - now that we’re in so much I was sick of sweeping.
If covid hadn’t surfaced we wouldn’t have either of these items.

There have been way too many medium-sized purchases. The only really big one I can think of is ordering a Peloton for DD. It won't even be here until June 11.

I have no idea how many books it can store. If it says 'kindle edition' it means its an ebook you can buy for your kindle specifically. Once you buy it, it will automatically download to your kindle. You own the book but its formatted for kindle specifically. Kindle Unlimited is a separate service that you pay $9.99 per month and you get to read all the books and magazines Amazon has in their program. I don't have Kindle unlimited to tell you if it's worth it or not. I have prime so I get a few books each month for free and at least monthly Amazon has $1.99 sales on select kindle books. Basically, all you have to do set up your kindle is 1) add your WiFi login 2)Add your Amazon login. Then everything happens pretty much automagically.

I have no idea how many books it can store. They can come in 2 forms: kindle or the other kind. If it is kindle then the library will have you check it out and then gives you a link to Amazon where you can have it sent to your phone. On the Amazon page make sure you click on "borrow"? and not "buy". Then you can download it to your kindle, kindle app on your phone or kindle app on your computer. The other kind you can use a overdrive, libby or maybe another kind of app. Since I am reading on my phone either way I prefer using the libby app as it takes fewer steps to check out and gives me options like having the next person in line get the book and then I will get it again - its nice when all your books come out of hold at the same time. If you only want to read on a kindle then make sure they have a kindle version of the book.

We haven’t really bought anything big, but before all this happened I kind of committed myself to starting a cottage bakery business that I can run part time from home. The porch pop up display that I liked best is almost $500 on Amazon ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/pd7N3dneptLj3pbgz5Gd.jpg) and I can’t really justify spending that much on what’s essentially an experiment. DH is handy and could *probably* build what I want but he’s still working, is considered essential and has been almost as busy as usual with work and he doesn’t have the time. I have a call in to a retired friend who is an amazing woodworker to see what it would cost to have him build it. Even if it ends up costing the same amount to have our friend do it, I’m sure the quality of the finished piece would be 1000% better than the knock together thing I saw on Amazon.
