If it says 'kindle edition' it means its an ebook you can buy for your kindle specifically. Once you buy it, it will automatically download to your kindle. You own the book but its formatted for kindle specifically. Kindle Unlimited is a separate service that you pay $9.99 per month and you get to read all the books and magazines Amazon has in their program. I don't have Kindle unlimited to tell you if it's worth it or not. I have prime so I get a few books each month for free and at least monthly Amazon has $1.99 sales on select kindle books. Basically, all you have to do set up your kindle is 1) add your WiFi login 2)Add your Amazon login. Then everything happens pretty much automagically. Thanks so much! You are very helpful! I probably won't get kindle unlimited, as I don't read that fast (just before bed). But I will use the prime and I saw some kindle books for $3.99, and the monthly amazon sales. I can't wait to try this out! My husband took off work this week, so I will have him help me figure it out (and I have no idea what the passwords are! ![](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ). Please note that these instructions are to BUY a book, not check one out from the library. But it’s easy to do either. The first time is only slower because you are reading everything that you need to do.

I am not certain if you count alcohol as big, but it is hella big. I think I have spent more on alcohol in the past 2 months than I have in the past 3 years. No joke. In the first weeks, I was so anxious, I drank every night and so did my 23yo DD. I gave some away to neighbors who were desperate, but I don't want to run out so I have a good 3 cases of wine and 1 case of beer. I don't drink hard liquor, so I don't have to worry about that, but I don't like either cheap wine or cheap beer. Sigh. Fortunately, now, drinking is limited to weekends again. I was thinking of buying a freezer, but that purchase should have been made months ago. No small ones to be found and the next size up is too big (over 5cu ft is just too big for me) and way WAY too $$$$. Oh me too. We drink everything so I bought 2 bottles of gin, one of the Uber large Tito’s bottles of vodka, baileys, wine and 2 cases of beer. I thought I was buying at least 6 months worth. We’re not through it yet but by the end of May I predict we’ll be out of some things. And like you I do not like crappy wine. My husband will happily drink two buck chuck and not notice the difference but I really relish a good glass of wine.

My favorite Italian place did a virtual wine tasting with a vineyard in Italy. You curbside picked up 3 bottles. 65 people signed up. Plus each sign up had at least 2 people on. It was fun. Of course I ordered a case afterwards. We surprisingly only liked the rose. We are mostly reds. I did give my dd 3 bottles but I’m down to 4 bottles of the 12.

I bought a Peloton and a Kindle Oasis. I didn't really pay for the Oasis though. I had reward points from all the times I had been recognized at work. So yay me! I had a paperwhite before, but I like this one a lot better.

Last month I spent $1400 on groceries. Does that count? I’m really trying to spend as little as possible this month. My hours have been reduced and who knows if or when we will get a stimulus check.
My parents gave each family some money to buy home entertainment items for the family. We used ours to put towards a batting cage for the kids. We also got a free used trampoline from a friend.
We will most likely be getting a ton of money back when baseball seasons are cancelled. If my hours are up again I would like to use some of it towards staining the deck and getting a small fire table (my birthday is Saturday so dh might be getting this anyway as a Mother’s Day/birthday gift).
That is about it.

A virtual wine tasting sounds so fun! A few years ago we drove through Tuscany and collected wine as we went. We enjoyed that wine for a long time - love some big Italian reds. We spent the night in Montepulciano - so awesome. Sigh - seems like 3 lifetimes ago now.

Not very big purchases but stuff we wouldn't have bought otherwise. We got some new board games from our local shop before they temporarily closed. (my son has been going there for years, so we wanted to support them, we spent a about $250 I think) We also have bought a rower and a recumbant bike for the basement because our gym is closed - we plan on keeping them for the long haul as we don't think it will safe to go back for a long time. We are car shopping right now because the prices have dropped a lot near us. Used cars, we've narrowed down to Honda CRV, just trying to decide which year/mileage. We probably would have waited longer as we don't really need a 2nd car right now but I do expect prices to go back up. I bought a used Honda CRV when we lived in the U.K. I loved it - and I really don’t like cars at all. When we moved to the US, I sold it to a Bulgarian truck driver, who was buying a bunch of them to take back home to sell as they go forever!

Not yet, but we are researching hot tubs. We left ours behind when we moved to this house 10 years ago, and we are really starting to miss it.
And not just the hot tub, but researching the Covana automatic lid that raises into a roof with privacy panels as well. We aren't getting any younger and I want to be able to lift the lid myself if I want to go in.
Not quite impulse purchase, but definitely impulse thought & research!

We haven’t really bought anything big, but before all this happened I kind of committed myself to starting a cottage bakery business that I can run part time from home. The porch pop up display that I liked best is almost $500 on Amazon ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/pwzjOUnliCnrCKXeCegl.jpg) and I can’t really justify spending that much on what’s essentially an experiment. DH is handy and could *probably* build what I want but he’s still working, is considered essential and has been almost as busy as usual with work and he doesn’t have the time. I have a call in to a retired friend who is an amazing woodworker to see what it would cost to have him build it. Even if it ends up costing the same amount to have our friend do it, I’m sure the quality of the finished piece would be 1000% better than the knock together thing I saw on Amazon. I’m also starting a part time cottage bakery from home ![](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Best of luck! I had my eye on a stand, for pop-ups, at Hobby Lobby but I don’t think I’ll be giving them my business anymore. My ‘big’ quarantine purchase is a chest freezer that should be delivered in June (fingers crossed).

We bought a lake house! We started out to buy a boat. Then we talked about how much we hated loading and unloading it every time we took it out. So we started talking about renting a boat slip for the summer and somehow that morphed into the biggest quarantine impulse buy of our lives! It's just a little refurbished mobile home but it's on a beautiful lot with a boat dock and covered deck. We are loving it!
We also got a quarantine dog from a rescue. I was adamant about no more pets after the last of our dogs died several years back but DD has been begging for one so I gave in. He has instantly become a beloved member of our family.

I bought a Fender jazz bass because I've been wanting to try the shorter/narrower bridge to see if it works better for me. It should be here Wednesday. I never liked fenders because they are so heavy. Are the newer models lighter? ETA: I haven't played in years. But I've been considering it again. I did love it. I just started like a year and a half ago, so I don't have much basis for comparison. I have a regular long-scale bass made by an Austin luthier in the style of the Fender P-bass. It's pretty heavy, but I guess I'm used to it. I also have an Epiphone viola bass (like the one Paul McCartney played/plays) that is shorter scale and it's also pretty frickin' heavy, especially considering that it's a hollow body. I'll let you know if the short-scale Fender feels lighter. I assume it will - but I think all basses are heavy compared to a guitar, so.

We've spent way more on wine and liquor than we normally would. The weather has been warm for a while, so we've switched to whites and the occasional rose, and we've been using a LOT of gin in gin and tonics and martinis. For whites I like a NZ sauv blanc on the crisper side, preferably with notes of grapefruit. So refreshing. There are some good bottles available at really decent price points, too. We're mostly not fans of Napa wines. Just personal preference.

I had to buy new office chairs for my daughter and me. She's attending school in her room and didn't have one. She spends a LOT of time at her desk (She's getting a degree in animation) so it was well worth getting her a chair. She also needed a new desk. I had an office chair, but it was falling apart and hurt my back. This new one is so much better.
I really want to buy a bread maker, but apparently so did everyone else. Right now the one I want is out of stock for the foreseeable future, and if I'm going to invest in something that expensive, I am willing to wait for the right one to come back in stock. Until then we are making pizza dough and bread the old-fashioned way.

That is about it. I cannot even look what I have spent on groceries. It was easily $1400 in March and not far from that this past month, but it includes the wine and beer. So here is some good news (for me at least!): I did a TJ Maxx purchase this morning. I went online last night to see when they would open their online store and they said they open for a few hours daily until they reach their limit. So TJ Maxx online is open!!! For what it's worth, I threw things in my virtual cart. Anything and everything. I have a ridiculously eclectic pile of random crap in there and I do not care!!! I am so happy!!!

I’ve been replacing our outdoor furniture. We just finished (well not quite bc parts of it were put on hold) a huge project replacing redwood decking, fencing, siding etc, I’ve been landscaping and spending a ton on plants. I think an outdoor space is so important. I would have done this all anyway but the pandemic has made it more meaningful I think.

I don’t have the patience for dealing with people and their custom orders so I’m thinking I’ll just do the sets I want to do for holidays, teacher appreciation or regular drop cookies since they’re easier and lots of people like them better than decorated cookies anyway and just do pop up sales. In my immediate area there is nothing walkable and the closest bakery is at the grocery store or Target a 15 minute drive away. The closest boutique bakery is in the tourist trap downtown where there’s no parking. We have TONS of walkers in our neighborhood though (and now more than ever), so I think if I put a sign out by the street that says, “Fresh Cookies Today!” I might end up with more business than I really want.

A peloton and dh is building me a patio. How do you like the peleton? I never liked exercise bikes, but with all the controversy about their ad, I did some research and thought it sounds like a great way to exercise!
Your husband sounds very handy! My husband has been wanting a patio near our deck, and I wish I was handy and could build him one! Post a picture when he finishes. I hope it warms up so you can enjoy it (still "winter" here in southwest pa).
I seriously love my peloton! I started using the app in December for yoga (which I was already doing in studio) and strength and walking/running on my non peloton tread. I decided to get a cheap spin bike from amazon and used that for a little over three months to make sure spinning was something I’d do before taking the plunge. I wanted another way to do cardio because too much running hurts my hips and knee. The peloton was a game changer for me- inside of cycling to mix it up I now I have force myself not to ride everyday because I love it so much. Dh is handy!! This past weekend we had 88 degrees which is pretty unusual for the seattle area this time of year but I enjoyed it!

When I found out I would be working from home (a week before things closed down) I immediately went and bought a large, moderately expensive computer monitor to plug into my work laptop. I think I would be blind by now if I had been staring at the tiny screen these past two months.

A new Xbox. It's getting a lot of use these days. ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/rofl.png) Computer parts to improve the machines the kids are using for school (hard drives, video cards, etc).
All other big purchases have been home improvement stuff - lots of wood, a $600 saw, paint, recessed lights. The next project is building mudroom storage. So we'll have another $$$ wood purchase.

Hurricane impact front doors, simple full light. Impact doors and window are ridiculously expensive. They have to rebuild the window/door frames to meet code.
We had an estimate done to replace two 8' sliders with impact french doors, over $40,000.00. Whole house window replacement estimate close to $150,000.00. Crazy! So crazy there is special financing through your property taxes.
We went with accordion hurricane shutters instead.

Get people wondering “gee, her cookies must be awesome if she’s selling out” Exactly! There are all kinds of things to do cookies for between May and December. There’s a guy that sells artisan bread from his farm on the way to our lake place. It’s in a totally out of the way spot not even on the beaten road, but he has a big sign that he puts out by the end of his driveway when he has stuff to sell that just says FRESH BREAD TODAY! It must work because it’s out there on Fridays when we drive out and usually gone by Saturday afternoon most of the time.
