So here's my question for you since I know your girls have health issues.... if you are driving from NC to OH what are your plans for bathroom stops? lol... This is my biggest worry for our drive from VA to NC. I plan to bring spray and wipes with me of course, but bathrooms are usually so small that I can't imagine how we can stay a distance away from people. Unless we can find a one-person type bathroom. But then I'd hate to be stopping at a bunch of places just to try to find one of those. I was thinking of maybe Starbucks since those are usually unisex singles.... Im in NY state. We drove about 4.5hrs away from here then back yesterday to pick up DD from her apartment at college (also in NY). Only one region we drove through has begun to reopen (this past Friday). We made two rest area stops each way. There was almost no one at either of them on the way out and they were slightly busier on the way home (still less than 8 cars each time). The women's room (and DH said the mens room) had every other stall marked as closed and locked and same with sinks. I only encountered two other people in the rest room the entire trip and we just kept our distance and let the other exit. Soap dispenser wasn't touch free water and faucets were. I grabbed a paper towel to use on the way out to open the doors. Had antibacterial gel in the car and we applied that to our hands upon return to car. I only saw two people the entire day of driving, moving DD's stuff, picking up takeout for drive home and in the rest areas that weren't masked when unable to social distance. That was a relief given what we see on the news and internet. I am grossed out at the rest area on an average day, but this was not as bad as I had imagined, but probably only because it was so quiet everywhere. We also did a drive last month from Northern VA to NYC to pick up dd, then back. It was just as you described, very not-busy, not many people out at all. But at that time every state was basically closed. By the first week of June when we're going to NC things will be starting to open up. So I'm assuming it's all going to be busier. Fingers crossed that it won't be too bad!

If I were the road trip type (and I’m really not 😉) I'd base my decision on what is open. To decide that you’d have to really dig into it. Someone was telling me last week, for example, that they’d just cancelled their trip to Gatlinburg b/c while many things are open many are not and in general it’s not the same....they’ve closed off a lane of traffic each way to expand the walkways, some of the major attractions are closed still and restaurants have limited seating. She learned all that by reading blogs about the area. For that family that all matters, for someone who goes to Gatlinburg to hike in the mountains and stay in a cabin that may not matter to them. So consider not only your destination but your daily plans as well and really dig into what’s available.
As for the concerns about bathrooms....I don’t see the big concern. There’s usually not a lot of people in there, certainly not close together unless you’re at a concert or something. Get in, get out, wash your hands and avoid touching anything (sanitize again in the car if you feel the need). I have a tiny bladder and live at least 20-45min from anywhere, a grocery trip often requires a potty break, avoiding public bathrooms just isn’t an option for me 🤷🏻♀️

I am pretty sure we will have to go to the beach this summer. I normally love to go look forward to it. It's my favorite place! And my favorite thing to do is sit on the beach all day every day. But, if the weather is crappy, it will be miserable. All 5 of us stuck inside together where we can't escape to go shopping. I am the biggest crab when we have rain at the beach. So I am no fun to have around! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) Also, we stop and spend the night at my parents on the way and way home. But I don't want to expose them to us. My husband likes to spend the night because it gives us more beach time.

I wouldn't do a road trip, at least not how I would define that... driving somewhere with multiple destinations along the way, with several hotels involved. That said, we are planning a trip to the beach at the beginning of June. Personally I do not want to go but we'll lose our money if we don't go. If we'd had the reservation just one week earlier the reality company would have canceled it and the decision would have been out of our hands. My ds, his fiancee, and her daughter are driving up from Georgia to meet us. I trust my ds when he says that they've been totally isolated except for infrequent trips to the grocery store. We've been the same here. When we get there we're staying at a rented house not a hotel. We're going to try to bring as much food with us as we can, and we will NOT go grocery shopping that first afternoon/night (a Saturday)! I do it every year when we go to Bethany and the store is usually a madhouse because all the new renters have arrived for the week. I'm thinking I might get up and go to the store at the crack of dawn the next day, Sunday. The part that worries me the most is the drive down there since we'll have to stop for a bathroom break at least once. We'll be armed with Lysol spray and wipes and masks... After this trip I'm not going anywhere for a very long time. I feel fortunate that my mother is here now (even if she is in assisted living and I'm not allowed in to see her) and not still in Pittsburgh. I can't imagine if she were still there.... I can't wait to hear about your trip. We go to OC, MD! We always visit the Bethany boardwalk and Grottos. You will have to let me know if it's crowded.
I have been going to Target and Walmart when they open to look for hand sanitizer, hand wipes and clorox wipes. I don't want to use my stash just for the trip. My family goes through wipes like they are in abundance! And they wonder why I am going to Target every morning looking for a container of wipes!

We are looking to rent an Airbnb in July for a week in Idaho. It’s an 11 hour drive. Just would like a change of scenery and a mid summer break from the heat and get some hiking done. We will have all the meals in the house or curbside pick up if available. That’s the plan, but we are prepared to eat the loss of things change for the worse.

I was going to plan an overseas trip for dd’s college graduation next year, but now we’re thinking of taking our RV on a road trip instead. Ideas so far are either Bryce/Zion, Sedona/Grand Canyon, or Redwoods NP/Crater Lake.

I’m going to a tiny little unpopular beach town 4 hours from my home in ten days. I’ll go alone and stay in my own house for two nights. It’s time.

I also want to take my graduating senior on road trip before he starts in fall....

We stopped making plans for a mid-July trip to northern Minnesota a couple of months ago. I really want to go this summer, but there are so many uncertainties with what MN might be allowing (haven't even looked into it) and whether or not DS will now be free during the 2 weeks we were looking at because if IA high schools get to play baseball the season might still be going then.
Right now I'm not even sure we'll be able to go to my dad's lake this summer (3 hours away in Nebraska)...I really hope so!

We have a beach trip planned for the week of June 21. It's a three hour drive from our house, so there will be at least one bathroom stop. It's the same condo we have rented for the last five years, and we love it. DH is retired, so he and I are definitely going. DS asked for vacation 6 months ago and was approved, so he thinks he will still be able to go. . DD and DSIL have been working from home since March. They both have this week of vacation approved, but they may just be going back to working in office by then - if so, I wonder if their pre-approved vacation will be changed. DGD9 and DGS5 will come with us even if their parents are not able to come. So, some or all of us are going.
We will take as much food as possible, and do curbside pickup for what we need, just as we do at home. Probably won't eat out, but may pick up food once or twice during the week. I don't know if the pool will be open or not, but we'll be on the beach as much as possible!

We just rented a cabin outside of Yellowstone for a week later in the summer. I'll be watching the situation closely and will cancel if needed.

We currently have a beach house rented for the end of July. We can and will drive there in one long day (13 hours). We plan to take our groceries with us and will just hang out at the beach after we arrive - no shopping, no dining out, etc.
We have until late June to cancel. If things are worse by then, we will do so.

For those planning RV road trips, check ahead. I know here in MN camp grounds are still closed, and some for the summer. It seems odd to open up stores, and keep camp grounds closed, so not sure what is up with that? I suppose parties around the bon fires, and the distance thing.

I’m intrigued now about renting a cabin near Yellowstone - my kid doesn’t start school until end of September so we could do a week beginning of September.
Does anyone have an idea of which town would be best for this? The only two that come to my mind are Bozeman and Jackson Hole - two places I really want to go,

Just keep in mind it makes very, very long days. Yellowstone already involves a ton of driving as everything is just so spread out - I said if I ever went back I would be sure and get a place IN Yellowstone as it just wore on us after a few days. Having said that - we really liked Jackson Hole as it had a great restaurant scene.

Right now Duluth hasn't cancelled a lot of things yet for summer, and that' on the way up there. I know the Duluth area has had quite a few cases compared to the rest of northern MN though. Grand Marais has very few though, so may be more open by then. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help.

We're staying in a deluxe cabin at the Yellowstone Mountain KOA. It's on the western entrance of Yellowstone in Montana. Nothing too fancy but I'm happy with it. We are debating about tent camping instead, but I like the idea of having a kitchen and our own bathroom.
Airbnb also had some nice rentals available.
My big concern is how big the crowds will be inside the parks. I'm guessing RV road trips will be popular this year and what better place to road trip than a national park.

Since no one has a crystal ball, my answer would be, it’s a crap shoot. We have no idea what direction the virus is going to take this summer. What’s going to be open or closed? We are taking in for granted that once things start to open they will stay that way.
I would put any plans in stone. See what is available at the time you are ready to and choose from those places.

I never answered the question. Nope. No trips. We will stay close to home this summer, fall. We will do the spring trip we had planned this yr, next yr. I don't think right now is a good time to travel. A lot of things have been cancelled already for the summer around here, or modified. And places that are going to be open I think might be over run. That's not a relaxing vacation to me. So we will just do stuff around our area this yr.

Dang it, I wish I could remember what I was watching. It may have been my local news, but I’m thinking it was the World News on CBS or ABC. Anyway... the lady being interviewed said the best way to travel this summer is by RV, just be sure and call ahead to see if the rv parks have any openings because besides it being normal travel season more people than ever will be doing the same thing. Also remember that concession stands/stores at National Parks will probably not be open so be sure and have enough food/beverages for your stays.

I am still planning to go to our cottage in Michigan, but not sure when I'll leave my home in Texas. Dh and ds have plane tickets for July 3rd, so I would "need" to be there by then. I normally take three days to drive there, and I hesitate to do it in two because I'll be by myself except for the two dogs. I'll bring up as much food as I can, and get curbside pick-up for the items that need to be refrigerated. Plans could change, but I doubt it. Once I'm there it's likely I'll stay until sometime in August.

I have a tentative plan to go to Vermont in September for my niece's wedding. It was originally scheduled for June but had to be postponed. I plan on driving with my Sister in Law, hopefully things are a bit better by then. I'll probably bring my own disinfectant for the hotel room. Congratulations to your niece. Fingers crossed for you...Here is hoping everything will be semi normal by then. Right now we are opening very slowly, and we’ve done well in our little state. Today’s report is we had 1 new case yesterday and no deaths in 9 days. Hotels/motels will start to open, with conditions, May 22 I think (or early June can’t remember what they just said). State parks/campgrounds I think are Opening early June for Vermonters or people who have Quarantine for 14 day The big thing is we have a 14 day quarantine if you want to come to our state. I will be interested in seeing how long they keep this active. Just so I understand this, as of right now today, if I came to Vermont I would need to quarantine for 14 days there or here at home before I come there? Thank you for the info, it's much appreciated.

Here...when you get here. Which, obviously, isn’t conducive for most people wanting to traveling into our state for a few days. ☹️ We do have a lot of out-of-staters and Canadians that have camps, so I am guessing it is more for that segment.
There is no official checking in or anything like that. I believe that it is all self regulated. This was also set in place at the beginning so I am not sure how/when it will change. But again, I believe it is not being monitored by any state official.
Here is what is on the Vermont government website (In the FAQ section):
Are there any travel restrictions into Vermont? Are out-of-state visitors allowed?
Visitors from other states, and countries, are still being asked not to come to Vermont. If they do, they are required to quarantine for 14 days after arriving in Vermont and before engaging in any activities, like grocery shopping or going for walks.
ETA- This question was just asked at our state update. Someone asked how people from out of state would be able to quarantine in state for 14 days? And the answer was ( my paraphrased take ) obviously yes it is an imperfect system and we wish we didn’t have to do this..but we are trying to keep Vermonters safe. It is mentioned we were happy to have visitors who because of owning/having homes/camps or family and friends that allow them to do this. Definitely suggesting that Vermonters get out and see Vermont themselves. BUT the Governor is also saying that there is nothing that they really can do to enforce. Sorry so long. 😲😄
