Curious about two questions:
1. When would or are you planning a road trip? 2. And where would you go?
I’m looking forward to planning a road trip through Idaho, Montana and Wyoming or Arizona, Utah, New Mexico....

I'm not planning any trips this summer--and we love to take little ones and just visit somewhere new, even if it's just a couple of hours away.

I'm really thinking of one since overseas is a no-go this year. I love road trips.
I'm thinking of maybe Jackson Hole/Yellowstone around August?? But this is "normally" the busiest time of the year.
I would like this to be about a two week trip but who knows. I haven't booked anything and when I do, all the hotels will probably be full.

An acquaintance is up at the Grand Canyon this weekend. They drove, but I don't know what their sleeping arrangements are (hotel, camping, or ?).
As for myself, we have no trips planned and we are not even thinking of one right now.

I want to buy an RV and go on road trips SO BAD right now. I don’t know if I’m going to, but I really want to.

Well, we already did one - drove from CO to our place in AZ (about 12 hrs). I wouldn’t go if I had to stay in a hotel, rental, etc. We only needed to stop for gas a few times, and had masks, bleach wipes, and hand sanitizer with us. The drive there was a lot easier than the return drive a month later. Much more traffic now and some of the national parks are beginning to open again. The drive through Moab was crazy quiet and that place would’ve been packed at this time of year.

Next spring at the earliest if you want to avoid covid19. Make decisions based on info available later. Given how this is being handled maybe much later. IMO

Since nothing is open, I wouldn't be going anywhere. It seems like it would be a waste to go somewhere and not be able to experience the place.

We're not planning anything for this summer, not even day trips at this point. Things are starting to open up over here, and some internal borders will open mid-June, but there are still restrictions on how many people can be in some places, including hotels and camp grounds. I'd just rather play it safe, even though i'd love to visit somewhere.

I want to buy an RV and go on road trips SO BAD right now. I don’t know if I’m going to, but I really want to. Seems to me that an RV would be the best way to do it. Just you and whoever is going with you, no hotel germs to deal with, your own cooking (or take out from restaurants). You could go grocery shopping in the middle of the night if you wanted to avoid possible crowds...

I wouldn't do a road trip, at least not how I would define that... driving somewhere with multiple destinations along the way, with several hotels involved. That said, we are planning a trip to the beach at the beginning of June. Personally I do not want to go but we'll lose our money if we don't go. If we'd had the reservation just one week earlier the reality company would have canceled it and the decision would have been out of our hands. My ds, his fiancee, and her daughter are driving up from Georgia to meet us. I trust my ds when he says that they've been totally isolated except for infrequent trips to the grocery store. We've been the same here. When we get there we're staying at a rented house not a hotel. We're going to try to bring as much food with us as we can, and we will NOT go grocery shopping that first afternoon/night (a Saturday)! I do it every year when we go to Bethany and the store is usually a madhouse because all the new renters have arrived for the week. I'm thinking I might get up and go to the store at the crack of dawn the next day, Sunday. The part that worries me the most is the drive down there since we'll have to stop for a bathroom break at least once. We'll be armed with Lysol spray and wipes and masks... After this trip I'm not going anywhere for a very long time. I feel fortunate that my mother is here now (even if she is in assisted living and I'm not allowed in to see her) and not still in Pittsburgh. I can't imagine if she were still there....

I have a tentative plan to go to Vermont in September for my niece's wedding. It was originally scheduled for June but had to be postponed. I plan on driving with my Sister in Law, hopefully things are a bit better by then. I'll probably bring my own disinfectant for the hotel room.

Fingers crossed for you...Here is hoping everything will be semi normal by then. Right now we are opening very slowly, and we’ve done well in our little state. Today’s report is we had 1 new case yesterday and no deaths in 9 days. Hotels/motels will start to open, with conditions, May 22 I think (or early June can’t remember what they just said). State parks/campgrounds I think are Opening early June for Vermonters or people who have Quarantine for 14 day The big thing is we have a 14 day quarantine if you want to come to our state. I will be interested in seeing how long they keep this active.

DH and I want to go on a getaway this summer. Book an AirBNB, drive there in one day, bring our own food, and stay for a few nights. Somewhere with a great view, and lots of outdoors to roam around in, but far away from everyone else.

This is my biggest worry for our drive from VA to NC. I plan to bring spray and wipes with me of course, but bathrooms are usually so small that I can't imagine how we can stay a distance away from people. Unless we can find a one-person type bathroom. But then I'd hate to be stopping at a bunch of places just to try to find one of those. I was thinking of maybe Starbucks since those are usually unisex singles....

In general: I would not plan a multiple day road trip right now. I would wait until at least summer 2021. I think it's better err on the side of caution and go with the theory of "it's better to be safe, than sorry". I also think it will be a long while before "life as we knew it" returns to whatever the new normal will be. At this time, many things, places, cities, states, etc... are not operating at 100%, so everything and anything may not be readily available. If am putting forth the necessary funds to go on a road trip or vacation, I want to be able to do whatever I want to do, and not have to work around shutdowns, limits, constraints and partial closures, etc...
Personally speaking: Because of the mandatory shut down and no income during that time....my savings balance has gone down. My immediate priority and for the foreseeable future, I will be in rebuild financially mode. I am still on self imposed spending restriction. Meaning needs only and no or very little wants. For me, travel is a want not a need....so no road trips or vacation. Thankfully, eventually "this too, shall pass".

We haven't thought about it yet. We will see how things are and what opens up before we go. We will probably make decisions a day or so before we leave. And though my girls have health issues, one is a police officer on the streets now without any protection, one is a 3rd year medical student around people, and the other (with the most health issues) is a special education teacher. She is the one we really worry about thus she hasn't seen her sisters since mid-March. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg)

I would not plan an overnight trip for at least a year. The exception is a cabin or condo you own.
The more people travel, the more you risk spreading the virus. Montana, for example, has few cases. If they get a ton of tourists, that is likely to change.
We are nowhere near the worst of this.

We are not supposed to be doing any non essential travel in our province. I do know people will do little road trips but we have nothing planned. Our hotels will not be widely open until June. I’m thinking about renting a house for a week in wine country. It’s a 5-6 hr drive into the interior. Would be nice to get away from the coast and into the heat. Our kids are still registered at sleep away camp and we don’t know what is up with that yet so it’s still hard to plan.

We probably won't do anything til there is a vaccine or some good news for treatment. I would love to drive to the beach or the Canadians Rockies and have been daydreaming about both.

I want to go somewhere very badly, just an afternoon to look at the sea and breath in the salty air, but seeing as we're reliant on public transport it's not going to happen.

next year probably for us.
DH is drivuing DD20 3hrs (6 roundtrip) to pick up her belongings from college next week. But that'll be our first out of our town outing since she was picked UP from college for spring break on March 6th (and also the first time she will have left our property since March 10th).
We had a trip (about 12hr of driving) planned for mid-July to visit our son. We've already told him we're probably not coming - his place isn't big enough for all of us so it would involve a hotel plus we had planned to do all the touristy stuff which may or may not be open. He might well drive down here instead though - he can make the trip with less stops than we can and staying here doesn't involve a hotel etc...

I am keeping an eye on the public health advice. The west coast has been doing a reasonable job of containing cases and trying to make the best decisions it can based on science. When we are green lot for travel, I will think about it.
No way will I be traveling, by car or otherwise, to states that aren’t making their decisions the same way.

We drove about 4.5hrs away from here then back yesterday to pick up DD from her apartment at college (also in NY). Only one region we drove through has begun to reopen (this past Friday). We made two rest area stops each way. There was almost no one at either of them on the way out and they were slightly busier on the way home (still less than 8 cars each time). The women's room (and DH said the mens room) had every other stall marked as closed and locked and same with sinks. I only encountered two other people in the rest room the entire trip and we just kept our distance and let the other exit. Soap dispenser wasn't touch free water and faucets were. I grabbed a paper towel to use on the way out to open the doors. Had antibacterial gel in the car and we applied that to our hands upon return to car. I only saw two people the entire day of driving, moving DD's stuff, picking up takeout for drive home and in the rest areas that weren't masked when unable to social distance. That was a relief given what we see on the news and internet. I am grossed out at the rest area on an average day, but this was not as bad as I had imagined, but probably only because it was so quiet everywhere.

I'm planning on driving to my dad's house for the week of Fourth of July. It's about an 8.5 hour drive and I'm mostly worried about bathroom breaks, etc. But I have hand sanitizer, etc and I do wear a glove to pump gas - just for that and then throw it away.
My dad's state is opening up at a fast rate than mine so I know it will be a shock to see people hanging out together, etc.

We’re planning our annual October road trip to PA but I’m also hoping for a July road trip to Vermont for our anniversary. We’ll see if either one actually happens, though.
