Sorta a trip.. going up to the mountains to an Airbnb for three days. My DD and I are meeting friends there from out of town. Originally they were planning on coming to CO for other DD's wedding. They changed plans and now renting a huge cabin up in the mountains and invited younger DD and I. These are long time friends and DD's best friend. She always spends some time with them over the summer. They are taking her back to OK for at least 1/2 the summer. They are all homebodies even before the virus, so I feel pretty good about her staying with them.

I’m intrigued now about renting a cabin near Yellowstone - my kid doesn’t start school until end of September so we could do a week beginning of September. Does anyone have an idea of which town would be best for this? The only two that come to my mind are Bozeman and Jackson Hole - two places I really want to go, I would look at staying at West Yellowstone. There is an entrance to the park right there and much less driving than staying in Bozeman or Jackson Hole. You can drive to Jackson Hole for a day if you want to check it out. As for me, no road trips or vacations this summer. I do have a 2 week vacation scheduled for mid-July. But that was just to go spend the time with my parents. They live about 5 1/2 hours from me. As long as things are OK, I'll continue with that. But we are all staying home, doing curbside pickup for things we need, etc. Other than that, I have a craft retreat planned for late September. That's up in the air as there is supposed to be over 100 people there. If it doesn't get cancelled by the cancel date (late June) we may cancel ourselves. It seems too soon for something like that honestly at this point. But we'll see.

Just keep in mind it makes very, very long days. Yellowstone already involves a ton of driving as everything is just so spread out - I said if I ever went back I would be sure and get a place IN Yellowstone as it just wore on us after a few days. Having said that - we really liked Jackson Hole as it had a great restaurant scene. good point about a lot of driving (that’s why previously our reservation was for 5 nights *in* the park) and I agree about Jackson Hole - totally want to go there

2 hours ago jillonthehill said: We're staying in a deluxe cabin at the Yellowstone Mountain KOA. It's on the western entrance of Yellowstone in Montana. Nothing too fancy but I'm happy with it. We are debating about tent camping instead, but I like the idea of having a kitchen and our own bathroom. Airbnb also had some nice rentals available. My big concern is how big the crowds will be inside the parks. I'm guessing RV road trips will be popular this year and what better place to road trip than a national park. Those cabins look great - I’m going to look into them for September I just don’t know if that’s wishful thinking

I've been planning a cross country RV roadtrip for this summer for the last several years. We were going to take the kids on a grand tour of the National Parks. I share your concern about the crowds in the parks. I haven't cancelled our August Yellowstone campground reservations but it's really unlikely that we'll be going. This virus messed up our RV order as we should have gone to Canada to pick it up by now, but I don't even know if they've been able to build it, never mind the issues with trying to go across the border to go get it! This coming weekend we're going to tent camp in our yard and we'll likely spend a weekend at the in-law's lake camp an hour away in July. Unless our RV is ready and we can go across the border to go get it, it's very unlikely that we'll leave the state.

DH and I are flying from Dallas to Milwaukee airport to visit friends in northern Illinois. We will take necessary precautions but we will go and have a great time.

We plan to go to a lake in N.C. for a week in September. Hopefully it will stick.

I live in PA. I met my best friend for dinner on Saturday night - we got take out from the same restaurant and then sat in our cars next to each other so we could roll down our windows and talk to each other. There are no restaurants open for dining inside. The only stores open are Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, fabric stores and grocery stores. Maybe a handful of small hardware stores or other small stores that sell essentials. No tourist attractions are open. A large number of hotels had shut down because the tourist industry that normal keeps our county busy is shut down. But on Saturday my BFF and I talked about how we both had observed many out of state license plates, mostly from NY and NJ. We have no idea why they have come here because there's not many places to stay and there certainly isn't anything to do except drive around and look at the country side. It's the only thing I can figure out that they would do here right now. Maybe they're coming just for day trips, but again, there's nothing to do so why drive hours to get here and then not have anything to do?

I really wish the states would close their borders to all but necessary travel precisely due to this reason.
High-infected states whose residents are traveling to low-infected, low populated states who don’t have the resources to handle infections is a disaster waiting to happen.
Using up the resources of low-infected, low populated states while on “vacation” and taking up hospital beds and buying out all the food that is just starting to become more stocked up again for the locals in areas not your own is selfish and shouldn’t be allowed.
Nobody “needs” to have a vacation at the risk of other people’s lives. Stay in your own states and keep the infection in your own neighborhoods. Stop spreading the sickness around.
Trust me when I tell you, the locals are NOT happy to see you. Wait until next year to take vacations like everyone else.

While Canada would prefer it to stay closed longer (insider reports) the US will push back because "everything is back to normal". I watch the border situation pretty close because I live 20 miles away and want to know when to expect an influx of shoppers back in our town.

For now, any time we leave the state, my employer requires 14 days of isolation at home before I can come into work again. So there is no leaving the state/roadtripping out of state for me.

I'll be paying more attention once I learn that the trailer is ready. It's funny, my husband has a Canadian coworker that recently crossed the border into Canada for a visit. Clearly, Canada let him through, I wonder how easily he'll get back here!

But I also know that when Canadians were coming back home from the US for the Winter they were being told to go straight home and self quarantine for 14 days. Don't even go the grocery store, have someone else do it for you and leave it at your door step. So, it's possible he just didn't follow the rules maybe?! The US will allow him back across if he's a US worker deemed essential. So that could be how he got around it, but my guess is he broke the rules in at least one of the Countries, if not both, to make the visit.

We are going to Montana, we have to paint dead brother’s house and hopefully get closer to finishing the clean up.
Fortunately our truck still has Montana plates.

We have a 2 week cabin booked 500 miles from home in August. It will require 1 gas stop, and maybe 2 bathrooms. I’m going. Once I’m there, I won’t need to bother a soul. I’d happily take groceries along with me if I need to!

We are still planning on going to Montana for the summer (we travel full time). I'm hoping by then the MT 14 day self quarantine order for anyone entering the state is lifted. If not, we will self quarantine. Travelling in an RV makes that pretty easy to do.
