The last time I did not park in a garage was 1990.
Every apartment and house since then has had a garage which we use for our cars.
When we lived in a snowy climate, it became a deal breaker for us.
Here in Florida, every house in our neighborhood has a minimum two bay garage. We are in the distinct minority of parking cars in the garage. (We still have some storage in the garage and we rent an off-site storage unit. We do not have an extra fridge or freezer in the garage--again a minority in that.) Most people use garages for so called storage. I would call them junk heaps because you just see piles of stuff in big mounds. (when they move out, the heaps end up on the street on garbage day.) A few people use them for home gyms.
I admit it cracks me up when people park outside the garage so they can protect their junk heaps, do not lock their car doors and then complain when their cars get stolen or ransacked. In my mind, you already decided that your junk heap is worth more than your vehicle, so who cares? Last week, we had a massive hail storm. Golf ball size hail. pounding down. Everyone's car was damaged. But wait! Their junk heaps are safe! what a relief!

When I lived in suburban NJ I had and used my garage, as did most of my neighbors. Living now in rural NY, we don’t have a garage but are going to build one and use it. I hate cleaning snow off my car in winter.

DH and I park our cars in the garage, while DS parks in the driveway (2 car garage.) The only things in our garage are the two trash cans and the cars, and in the winter we keep the snowblower and shovels in there. I can't see the street from my house, and my driveway is a steep hill, so I don't like parking the cars on the street. We're not allowed overnight street parking during the winter. I live in Massachusetts in a small rural town.

Michigan here. Previous house had an attached garage. We parked in it. Current house has an old garage that had the door removed to turn it into an oversized shed. Even if we wanted to turn it back into a garage, we couldn't. Too small plus it's damaged and sinking. We use it as a shed. The driveway is gravel and ends at the side door. It's grass between the side door and shed. It would be way too much money to fix all of that.
Next house will have a garage.

We live in Wisconsin, so yes, we park both vehicles in the garage all the time. Disclaimer... we live on ten acres and have a large barn for storage of the tractor, 4-wheeler, mowers, etc., so no need to use the garage for storage area.

I picked working on it... not because it’s used for storing boxes and stuff but my son’s car is being stored. He is in Germany but he is within a few weeks of getting out of the military. So we stored his car that he left in the US in the garage for him. But soon I’ll have it back!! Whoot whoot Oh yeah... I’m in CO and live in a typical suburb

I'm in VA in a newer HOA neighborhood. We're supposed to park in the garage (not everyone does)
In my old house in Maryland, it was a tiny one-car garage. You could barely park in the garage. I think that may be why a lot of people use it for storage. They have older homes and smaller garages?

I park my car in the garage but DH does not. His space is taken up with power tools right now as he is working on a number of construction projects at the moment. He will park in the garage in the winter because he doesn't enjoy scraping ice off his windshield at 6 in the morning.
My oldest, who just graduated from college and is looking for employment has indicated he would like a place with a garage when he moves out of his student apartment. He also does not enjoy scraping ice off his windows in the morning.
We live in Northern Utah.

We park in the garage almost all the time. I live in Phoenix, AZ. We parked in the garage in Utah as well. On occasion Dh does work out in the garage that may take a few days or even weeks to finish. We have also had it loaded up with furniture that was donated for refugees and we weren't able to take it to the warehouse yet, but mostly we have them in the garage. We like them in the garage because it looks less cluttered, it is cooler in AZ and you don't have to mess with the snow in UT. And now we do our best to get stuff in the garage even with projects going on because we live on a corner and apparently corner house have more problems with getting egged and widows bashed in.

I don't park in the garage, but I wish I could. Our garage is too narrow to fit our car.

I park my car in the garage and my husband parks his SUV and Mustang in the driveway in the summer. If there is a possibility of hail, the Mustang gets moved to the garage. In the winter we have the mustang and my car both in the garage but it's a tight fit. Why have a garage if you don't put your car in it?

We have a 3 car garage and I try to have room to park our 2 cars in there. I like having them in there because it’s cold in winter and too hot here in Summer in Northern Cal. Other reasons is to protect the paint from oxidation as well as theft. The outside of car also stays cleaner inside the garage.😊

I live in MD and always park my car in the garage. I would not live somewhere without a garage for safety reasons.
When DH was alive our house had a one and a half car garage. In the summertime when the pool was open, we turned the garage into a sunroom. He built a huge screen across the front of the garage door with a screen door so people could come in without going in the house. We put summer furniture in there and a picnic table. The backdoor of the garage opened right to the pool. It always had a nice breeze going through and at nighttime all we had to do was put the garage door down. I happily parked outside during the summer, but once the pool closed I got my garage back LOL.

Since we moved into our current house in North Texas, I always park in the garage and so does DH. Some houses we lived in didn't have a big enough garage for us both to park in. When we lived in Arizona, we didn't have a garage, only a carport.

DH has thousands of dollars worth of lawn, gardening, pool, and construction tools/equipment in the garage, so there is no "junk heap." (He is in the process of building a shed for those while we are all home on quarantine, so we hope to have it cleared our soon.) 2. We have too many cars to park them all in the garage, and because everyone's schedule varies from day to day, we prefer not to play the game of "whose car gets to park in the garage tonight so it doesn't block everyone else tomorrow?" 3. We don't leave stuff in our cars to tempt thieves, and we also lock the doors. We live in a rural area, and theft is just not a thing we worry about. You do you, but I trust a grown homeowner to be able to make an informed decision regarding what works for their family when it comes to using the home and related space they pay for.

I grew up in California (two blocks from lucyg!). Our house had a two-car garage. Like many others in our neighborhood, my parents locked the garage door and turned the space into a family room. They parked their cars in the driveway. As an adult, I’ve lived in Hawaii, Switzerland, and Utah. We’ve always parked in a garage since moving in to our very first home.

I don't have a garage. We have a carport but I don't park there either because ds's car is parked there. He doesn't have a license so it doesn't get moved much so it's easier parked there.

We have a total of 4 cars (2 kids are home from college) We park one car in our 2 car garage and use the other side of the garage for storage. We have enough driveway that we can fit the other 3 cars without utilizing street parking.
When we lived in San Diego we had a condo with a long, narrow 2 car garage. You had to park one car in front of the other. This was before the days of back up cameras. I came home first so I was always parked all the way to the front. I had a tiny car, but did not like backing up and broke the side mirror more than once trying to get out!

I almost always do. When we moved into our house 19 years ago, we said we were parking our vehicles in the garage, not filling it with crap like most of our neighbors. Oh and I live in Minnesota.

I rented a garage from my apartment complex to be able to park my (then new) car in a garage. We get lots of severe weather and I didn't want any damage to my car.

Houston and we do not park in the garage. We converted it years ago to a playroom for the kids but even before that, our vehicles didn't comfortable fit.
We rent so we only put up a pony wall to keep out critters and debris and insulated the garage door, so that the owner could easily convert back if he wanted. The carpet could easily be removed, as well.

I'm in Houston and I always park in my garage. As I mentioned on the other thread, I live in town, so you would just be asking to get your car broken into if you parked on the street or in your driveway. Plus it's hot as hell here. We park both cars in it, but there's also a workshop space in the back that we use for storage and for the 2 garbage bins. We have all the walls of the garage lined with our bikes. I there are 7 in there at the moment. Also, it's tall enough, so we have those shelves that are mounted on the ceiling the hold rubbermaid bins.

Why do you care what anyone thinks of your choices, let alone a stranger in the internet who, by the way, is not seeing or talking about your garage contents?

It's very common here in Central CA to use your garage for other than parking. We have a 3 car and we do use it for parking as well as storage and tools.

We part in the garage, always. It is the norm here, I figure the garage is the for the car and that's what we use it for. Seems strange to me not to use it for that purpose.
