From my recent understanding of "white privileged," it is meant to label and insult the person who is determined to have their life the way it is simply because of the color of their skin. That doesn't seem right either. It's lumping every white person into the same group. Some are very accepting and understanding of the plight of black people (and other races ) and work to spread the message of tolerance of all. Then you're not really understanding it. 'White privilege'doesnt mean your life isn't hard. It means the colour of your skin isn't making it harder. The phrase doesn't insult anyone, it isn't "lumping every white person together" it is just a statement of FACT that all those things christine58 listed happen without us even realising it. please consider what christine58 & craftykitten are trying to make you see. I am white but my neighborhood is not, nevertheless I still benefit from white privilege. I'm not a "Karen" but I am the "Karen" demographic. I am not insulted when a Karen is called out because awareness of white privilege is long overdue. Insofar as EC, Orange County has rising Covid cases. They are fools.

Confession: I didn't read the article. I saw the photo, I read the comments. I led with my position of if mass gatherings are okay for protests, then all should be allowed to gather -- COVID doesn't care about your cause and isn't less dangerous b/c of the reason you gather. But the trickery behind this is wayyyyy wrong. And I need to read before commenting.

Sans is French. It means “without.” San is... I don’t know. And hoity toity? I don’t know its’ origin, but I do know how to spell it 🤪 You should probably then remove the apostrophe from “its” above then. I said I could spell. I never said I could punctuate.

This would be a really good opportunity to so some research about both terms you just used and why your comment is drawing so much push back. The phrase "when we know better, we do better" applies here. I realize that but why does it only seem to be working as whites need to more understanding of blacks? I have run into major attitudes from black people at work (customers and employees). I understand the history and it's bad but why can't we all just treat EACH OTHER with kindness? Girllllllllll. You seriously should stop talking, and read up a bit. It is not “reverse racism” (pretty much a made up/frequently used term by conservatives) when someone “favors” or refuses to discipline a minority employee.

You might want to educate yourself about what white privilege means White Privilege Checklist White privilege as "an invisible package of unearned assets, which I can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was ‘meant’ to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, code books, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks“ (McIntosh, 1989). The following are examples of ways white individuals have privilege because they are white. Please read the list and place a check next to the privileges that apply to you or that you have encountered. At the end, try to list at least two more ways you have privilege based on your race. 1. I can arrange to be in the company of people of my race most of the time. 2. I can go shopping alone most of the time, pretty well assured that I will not be followed or harassed. 3. I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented. 4. when I am told about our national heritage or about “civilization," I am shown that people of my color made it what it is. 5. I can be sure that my children will be given curricular materials that testify to the existence of their race. 6.. I can go into a music shop and count on finding the music of my race represented, into a supermarket and find the food I grew up with. into a hairdressers shop and find someone who can deal with my hair. 7. Whether I use checks, credit cards, or cash, I can count on my skin color not to work against the appearance of financial responsibility. 8. I am not made acutely aware that my shape, bearing, or body odor will be taken as a reflection on my race. 9. I can worry about racism without being seen as self-interested or self-seeking. 10. I can take a job or enroll in a college with an affirmative action policy without having my coworkers or peers assume I got it because of my race. 11. I can be late to a meeting without having the lateness reflect on my race. 12. I can choose public accommodation without fearing that people of my race cannot get in or will be mistreated. 13. I am never asked to speak for all of the people of my racial group. 14. I can be pretty sure that if I ask to talk with the "person in charge" I will be facing a person of my race. 15. If a traffic cop pulls me over or if the IRS audits my tax return, I can be sure I haven't been singled out because of my race. 16. I can easily by posters, postcards, picture books, greeting cards, dolls, toys, and children's magazines featuring people of my race. 17. I can choose blemish cover or bandages in "flesh" color and have them more or less match my skin. 18. I can do well in a challenging situation without being called a credit to my race. 19. I can walk into a classroom and know I will not be the only member of my race. 20. I can enroll in a class at college and be sure that the majority of my professors will be of my race. From my recent understanding of "white privileged," it is meant to label and insult the person who is determined to have their life the way it is simply because of the color of their skin. Telling someone that they have white privilege is not to insult them. It’s to point out fact.

I've been out of the scrapbooking game so long I have no idea who Maggie Holmes is! I didn't know who Erin Condren was either! I’ve gone to digital, so I’m entirely clueless too.

Let me help you out. It is OK in life to use personal experience of a particular person or online person. It is not OK to use a whole race’s “identity”. See the diff?

It’s time to own your privilege, fragility, and guilt. You are being offered the opportunity to be a better person. Take it.

Actually, if you do a bit of googling you'll see that States haven't seen spikes in Covid cases due to the protests. And considering we're starting into the 4th week of protests now, cases would have started to rise if they were going to. Maybe, just maybe, masks are working??? In just what magical city were ALL THE PROTESTERS wearing masks? Because I have yet to see a protest with mask compliance. I mean, some wear the masks, sure. But total compliance? Nope. We had a healthcare workers for BLM march in Seattle with an estimated 60k people and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone without a mask. It started at my hospital and was organized by doctors and it was awesome. This was 2+ weeks ago and Seattle is NOT having a spike. In fact, we're slightly trending down.

We as Americans can determine what is safe for our families and if they chose to have a graduation, god forbid, san masks etc...WHO GIVES A SHIT!! All of you OVER privileged women need to get several hobbies and focus on those instead of what everyone else is doing wrong in your mind! NOT everyone thinks like you hoity toitee goodee goodee gossipers who lick everyone's ass, and then immediately talk shit behind their backs!!! You fucking liberal bitches are what's wrong with society. I hope you choke on that!" So when some troll calls us "fucking liberal bitches" and says that we're the problem with society, and expresses a hope that we choke, then YES, I am A-OK with what Belgravia said.

There is great benefit in slowing the spread of the virus when even just the majority of people wear masks. Especially since these are outdoor settings.

Can't the term "white privileged" be considered reverse racism? Why do we need to label anyone like that? I was verbally attacked twice two days ago at work by a black employee (I was just doing my job and it's on camera). It included swearing at me in front of customers. However, the general manager was too scared to write her up for it. I probably would've been written up had the roles been reversed. Reverse racism is not a thing. Just because someone got an attitude with you does not equate to them being racist and it is disrespectful for you to assume that someone is being racist towards YOU when if they roles were reversed and you got an attitude with a Black person you would say yourself that it was not with racist intent. You really need to educate yourself because your white fragility is showing (which is also a book that you can read to further educate yourself). Black people for over 400 years have been experiencing systemic racism and oppression and because you got yelled at by a coworker you feel that it is “reverse racism”. Enslaved Africans were literally kidnapped from their homes and forced into chattel slavery! Then not only after they were “freed” they endured years of black codes and Jim Crow law’s because of their skin color. And the crazy part about that activists were murdered and thrown and in jail for fighting for the equality of Black people and because of their skin color. White people sailed to America and committed genocide against Native Americans to claim land and resources that did not belong to them! White people tell immigrants to go back home, they’re not wanted here, and that they are illegal when THIS COUNTRY WAS BUILT ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND MURDER. So please get over yourself. Black people and other people of color deal with racism and discrimination every day of their lives and are getting murdered and lynched because of the color of their skin and you feel a little hurt because some Black people have an attitude with you. Girl please your WHITE PRIVILEGE is showing.

I don't see Luvnlifelady as not taking the opportunity to learn from what is being explained to her. I think what she is getting at is that while we are all learning, why can't everyone start with kindness towards each other instead of starting with anger and resentment? There seems to be a vibe here and elsewhere that it is ok for people to be rude to each other--sometimes simply because the person is white so therefore they deserve it.

I think white women are just struggling with the idea that black women may finally be heard and that some of the problematic white woman behavior exhibit will be revealed for what it is...problematic. You’ve tried the tears and the all lives matter but are still receiving push back even from other white women. I get it. It’s different. Lean into it. Grow. Be quiet. Be introspective.
And if you are met with anger and resentment from a black woman, try not to take it personal. I navigate life every day not knowing who means me harm or who is being an ass because they are an ass or because I’m black. Fear is a constant emotion. As is being overwhelmed and exhausted. We are TRULY the most unprotected group of people in American society, we get paid less than everyone else, we are murdered as we sleep, everyone labels us angry or bitter never acknowledging the treatment that resulted in the angry and bitter. Constant gaslighting. I could legit go on and on. If white women could put themselves in the shoes of my ancestors or imagine what my lived experience must be like I don’t think any one of you would be complaining about the one time a black woman losses her shit with you at work.

You don't see all of the angry posts about "get your white privilege in check"? There are ways to explain white privilege in a non-aggressive way. I have seen many posts online (not sure about here, but for sure in other social media) saying that white people need should be ok with being treated poorly because black people have been treated poorly for years. I disagree with that opinion. The previous poster was also describing a situation at work in which a black person was allowed to be aggressive and rude because of the fear of things looking the wrong way if it was addressed. I have seen the same thing happen with a poster here. I'm not sure why you are so incredulous about that.

christine58 I understand that what she said she understood white privilege to mean is not correct. I hope that she is learning from that. But people have turned her comment about treating people with kindness into her trying to ignore the fact that she could do more research about white privilege, when in reality she was referring to the situation with her coworker and how the coworker treated her.

Some horrible woman was defending EC on IG saying a poster's "Black Privilege" was showing.
A Karen for sure.
I went to her IG and sure enough - disgusting non-thinking posts. The first one was "Black Crimes Matter". It's going to take such a long time for these dinosaurs to go. I hope I'm still alive when they're a tiny <1% of the population.
