I have color issues. Actually, I have a lot of issues, but when it comes to scrapbooking, color is my main issue.
I have a ginormous stash of Thickers and other alphabets like Thickers. Hundreds. But I'm really frustrated that I have so little primary blue and red. I have 20 shades of teal and pink but I never have the right shade of blue and red.
Reds are frustrating to me because there are warm reds and cool reds and most of the alphas made are cool reds, but most of the scrapbook manufacturers I like use warm reds. Most of the reds and blues I have are glittery so then I have to add glitter to other parts of my layout to make it balance out.
I also have cream and white issues. Putting both cream and white in the same collection makes me twitchy. I'm looking at you Vicki Boutin. I have to have my base colors match. With cream it is really difficult to get cardstock in the same shade. Once again, there are cool cremes and warm cremes and it is hard to have the right one. I wish all scrapbook manufacturers made cardstock part of their collection.
Maybe it is because I'm an art teacher and I spend a lot of time on color theory but it makes me a little crazy.
I know for a while you couldn't buy anything but pink and teal but scrapbook lines are getting a bit better with that. Purple used to be non-existent but I'm seeing it more and more now.
Does anyone else have issues with or opinions about scrapbook lines and color?

I have what seems like a gazzillion blues (and greens for that matter) but never the right one. I struggle with browns also - I want a nice, rich chocolate brown. Yellows - don't seem to come in a good variety either - I have pastel and super bright primary and orange-y...where is straw and buttercup and goldenrod and all the other shades I keep reaching for? And pink - where are the mid-range pinks? not barely there pastel or baby pink but not fuschia or magenta or hot pink either. I never seem to have the right purple either -if I need a blue tone all I have are pink tones but if I'm looking for a pink tone, the right shade always seems to be blue-toned
I have SO MUCH cardstock and I still have colour issues, lol

I get round this by using alphabet dies. I’ve bought a dozen or so different sizes and fonts from Ali Express. I cut out each letter three times and stack them so they are more like the thickness of chipboard. This way, I can use my promarkers or watercolours, or patterned paper, for the top layer, and they always match. It’s a lot more labour-intensive than peeling them off a backing sheet, but it works! It’s much cheaper than buying Thickers and you never run out of popular letters. ETA You can obviously use other materials too like fun foam, cork, thin metals, etc

I have a strong dislike for the off white backgrounds. I've bought too many papers online that I never would have purchased if I had seen them in person. Mostly Amy Tangerine. So aggravating!
There's a paper in her new collection I've been considering, and I think I'm going to pass on it. I don't think it has a white background after all.

Agree on the cream and white issue. I know some scrapbookers use them interchangeably, but personally, I’m not a fan. I also don’t like using stickers with a white outline on papers with a cream background. And there are so many shades of cream! Most of them are too yellow in my opinion but fairly recently I discovered Bazzill walnut cream and love it. I only wish it was available textured. Also, pink is really overdone, especially American Crafts lines. I’m so tired of seeing it in every collection from summer to fall and winter. Spring, I kind of expect it with florals and pastels. But, do we really need Christmas collections with pink, red & green? And do we really need pink with fall colors? I’m not a fan of pink to begin with and having 3 boys, I really have no use for it. I don’t mind a little here and there but there are so many collections with it and it’s been ongoing for a long time, it doesn’t seem like a trend that will ever go away. Sorry to anyone who loves pink.

I guess I don’t have this issue. I mix white and cream with no problem. If the colored alphas I have don’t match, I go with white, gold, silver, brown or black.

I don't have a problem mixing white and cream, but I do have an issue with warm and cool tones as you mentioned. I have some AC cardstock that's cool white and other cardstock that's warm white. I can't use them on the same layout. I also have an issue with warm reds and cools reds. I've only bought a handful of Thickers since I bought my Silhouette years ago. I love that as long as I have the right paper I can make my title any color I wish and in any font.

I hate mixing cream and white, also. I just can't do it.

I too don’t like mixing white and cream. And I almost always prefer patterned paper that has white in it over cream. That being said, when I do need card stock to go with patterned paper with cream in it, I always reach for French Vanilla from close to my heart. To me, it’s a great match most of the time and it never reads yellowy. It’s just a really nice not white paper that’s also a nice weight.

I pulled out a winter/cabin line to scrap a snowy vacation. I don't know if I will ever be able to use that line it is very cream based and clashed so much with the very strong white snow in all my photos.

When I scrapbooked I bought white Thickers and then used a brush tip pen to color the letters the way I wanted them. You may still be able to shade in/saturate the colors you do have to better match what you are trying to achieve. Tombow or Pitt fat artists pens are good choices for a job like this. Copics, too.

If I was more artistic, I think I'd have more pet peeves. My standards are low.
I personally have a hard time finding the right shade of yellow and orange cardstock. I need a buttery yellow, not bright, not mustard. I can't quite pinpoint orange except not construction or neon.
I haven't given much thought to creams and whites. I don't think I use them together.

Yes! There are 100+ shades of red, sage green, and olive green cardstock and I never seem to have the exact shade I need to match a piece of patterned paper.

Ah yes—-TOO MUCH PINK-is my catchcry as well its variety we need-lots of the AC collections are very samey i must say I always struggle with grey cardstock being too warm or too cool i also remember a Glitter girl episode I think where Shimelle talked about using white and cream on a layout -basic idea was use several items of both so it looks deliberate not just all white with 1 cream item or vice versa

Another vote for too much pink. I love dark pink but the pale pink in everything is awkward for me to scrap for some reason. I also prefer clean colors (white not cream), which I agree with many, gets me frustrated when I shop online and you get the item in the mail and it’s faded or vintage looking, I have a huge amount of blue cardstock but am never able to find the right red in my stash!

agree on the colour matching - I can't handle mixing shades that are warm/cool, and yes I agree that reds and blues are frustrating - so are greens and greys! And white/cream - yup, don't get me started. Like lesley, I am using my alpha dies more often now if finding the right colour is hard, and I love layering them up! Well, except for the work involved And like @pinkshirlee, I use my copics and buy multiple packs of white thickers! I also use my copics to change shades of regular stickers. And I use warm grey or light cream copics to change the white on die cuts to a cream background if my pp is cream based. Especially journaling cards or PL cards - love being able to take away the bright white that clashes!

Sorry to anyone who loves pink. I’m right there with you on the pink! It’s ubiquitous and I’m sick of it. I pretty much don’t buy any American Crafts products (except non-pink Thickers) because of it. My exception has been some Shimelle stuff, mainly because of craftymom101 and her work! My other issue with color is that so many companies use “muddy” colors - especially their pink, coral, and yellow (I’m looking at you Studio Calico and Ali Edwards, but there are others). It’s so drab and yucky. I really like to use yellow, but not a muddy one. That muddy salmony pink is horrible. And it’s everywhere. On cream and white, I definitely prefer white bases. Creams are either too yellow, or don’t even match in the same collection. Simple Stories often uses a very greenish cream in their Christmas collections that is hard for me to use. It looks bad with white or other creams. I get so disappointed when I think something is white, and it’s even labeled as white (like an alpha sticker, usually Simple Stories or Carta Bella), and it turns out to be off-white or cream when my order arrives. I also wonder what’s up with MME lately? Their color combos over the last year or two have been so jarring and ugly. They use to be one of my favorites, but I cringe when I see most of their color choices now.

Color issues, yes. I always want just the right shade. Blues, reds, greens, are all hard but for me the hardest to get the right shade are oranges & yellows.
I can’t say if I have a problem with cream & white together. If I choose a main paper with a cream theme I most likely will not choose white in other pieces or embellishments. But if cream and white are on the same paper or focal piece already I’m fine with it or I wouldn’t buy it in the first place.
Glitter. I am perfectly fine with just letters being glittery. I’m perfectly fine with only one element being glittery. I feel I can balance that in other ways. Perhaps shiny, or metallic or neon or dimension. But something else that also pops.

My exception has been some Shimelle stuff, mainly because of craftymom101 and her work! Sharing your craftymom101 love with you. I've bought ( and used ! ) so much Shimelle because of her layouts. I even bought up some clearance papers to set aside for a gift for the holidays! Shimelle had the best b-sides. Bright happy colors that weren't overly girly. I wouldn't think that would be so hard to do, but she's been the only one delivering it consistently for the last several years. ( sorry, I screwed up trying to use the quote feature on my phone )

Especially since cream is mostly a warm tone and when snow shows tones that aren’t white it’s always cool tones Like cool blues purples & grays cam come out in the shadowed places in snow which would all look odd with a warm cream. I’d need to see if matting the pictures would provide a break that would help if I really loved the papers. Or just make cards

White makes me twitchy.. I have no idea but it was also in my cross stitching days. I couldn't cross stitch a lot in white. It always looked off. I have no idea why. It carried over to scrapbooking. I could probably count the number of complete white backgrounds on one hand. Hundreds of layouts but not many on white. I have NO idea why that is. I always always choose a color color or pattern paper.
I love other people's white backgrounds though. Go figure.

I'm the same way regarding white backgrounds and add the small patterns on a white background. I find those papers so hard to use especially if there are several in one collection. I avoid collection packs with lots of the small patters with white backgrounds. But I highly prefer white as an accent color vs cream.

Matching the colour and the font style can be so frustrating, I have been known to alter the colour of thickers using ink, alcohol ink pens, mists, glitter, embossing powder.... It can be a lot more work but I also like the colour to be just right and sometimes you just cant ignore the colour difference. I want to invest in some alpha dies for this reason, I have so much paper that DIYing thickers makes sense.

I seem to have the hardest time matching shades of navy. I've got like eight of them and nothing matches anything else. I started getting a lot more enjoyment, though, once I adopted the mantra "It doesn't have to match, it just has to go." I don't remember where it's from (it might have been something like What Not to Wear), but I've found it freeing.
