The fireworks went well past midnight last night. I’ve grown used to most of them since they have been a regular occurrence since May. But lately, people are setting off fireworks that are a whole hell of a lot louder than the cherry bombs I grew up with and I jump every time one goes off. Anyone else dreading the fireworks tonight?

I'm not, I love them. But I do feel bad for my dog.
Around here, most people stop by 10 when it is a weeknight. I figure tonight they will go until 11-12

They have been shooting off those loud bomb ones for a few weeks here, and the past week has been dreadful. Last night they started before noon and went until well past midnight. I can only imagine what's in store for us tonight!

No, love them and my dog doesn't care. Neither did my last dog. Both very chill.

Yes, we have been hearing them for the last three weeks, although why they wait until almost 11pm is beyond me.
The last two days they have been shooting them off earlier, whish is scaring my already anxious dog. Yesterday evening she was so scared she refused to go outside and ended up peeing on the carpet.
BTW, before anyone suggests just picking her up and taking her outside, she weighs about 75 pounds, LOL.
We thought that we would have fewer last night with the rain and storms, but no. So Daisy had to deal with both thunder and fireworks. Really wish I had some doggy Xanax.

I don't dread them. I usually like fireworks a lot, and don't complain about them. My issue is that my husband LOVED fireworks, and especially loved setting them off. His best friend always has a party on the river with lots of fireworks that they would go purchase together. This year, no party, and it's the second 4th of July without my husband here. Fireworks now make me emotional because I miss him and how much he loved them.

He would go and have fun, it was just getting him to go... lol... I had a childhood where my dad would never go with us so I made sure dh made that effort for our kids. Hang in there!!

I’m sorry moodyblue. That would make me extremely sad as well and I would have enjoyed fireworks by a river. I wish I could enjoy the ones here, but I can’t see them... only hear the loud explosions.

it's the second 4th of July without my husband here. Fireworks now make me emotional because I miss him and how much he loved them. I understand that response. I'm sorry they make you feel that way. I do like fireworks, but I'm where I only hear them (at a distance thankfully) but cannot see them because we have so many trees. I'd love tpo be able to watch them go off. Our new GSD (now 6 months) doesn't seem bothered by them, thunderstorms, or much of anything thankfully. Well, wait. He is scared of the pool. Loves the garden hose and will play in the stream from the hose as long as you'll stand there with it. But we can't coax him into the pool for love nor money. And he gets anxious when anyone is IN it - especially splashing. It's like he thinks we're in distress.

The huge loud ones are legal to buy here, but only legal to set off on the 4th. So the same neighbor behind us somewhere starts setting them off until 11-12 pm every night as soon as they go on sale. We've been here 7 years and it's the same thing every summer...
Our neighborhood usually has a sort of block party with several neighbors setting off fireworks, I usually go out there and watch, this year I've watched most of the neighbors not social distance for four months so I'm not even planning on going outside... I will soak my plants and grass so no one burns my house down as usual.

No fireworks here but our local crazy fired off his gun last night for about an hour. I sometimes think he 're-enacts his own personal little Waco in his tiny little head.

Individual fireworks are outlawed in my city and have been for several years. I so miss seeing the fireworks stands on the corners throughout the city! There are several city-sponsored fireworks displays around and I can see a few of them from my house, mainly the one over the lake across the street from my home. It just isn't the same as pulling up a chair in your front yard and watching the neighborhood children with their sparklers and watching the dads trying to light cones without knocking them over or getting the shower of sparks on themselves. I miss hearing the ooohhhhs when there is a particularly beautiful one. Sigh. I even miss watching people light those silly snakes.

His birthday is around November 5th which is a tradition firework celebration in the U.K. Every year they have a huge outdoor party to remember how much he loved fireworks and to celebrate his life:) As a family with 3 other children, they find these traditions to be helpful to their continued grief. I hope one day fireworks will bring happy memories back to you.

I usually don't mind them, but we have one set of neighbors a few houses down that can rival the ones they set off at professional displays. We get 5-6 inch pieces of them on our lawn, deck, and roof. Our state is generally pretty dry, so it isn't good. One dog hates them and the other just curls up on my lap and looks at me when the big ones go off. I usually turn up the music or tv in the house. It's supposed to rain this afternoon. I hope it pours.

I'm shocked that we haven't heard any this week. They are usually ramping up by now, so I'm curious to see if there are any tonight. In the past I would take care of DD's dog who was terrified of all booms. He passed away last year so at least he is spared the booms now. Our dog is a gun dog. He hears a boom and gets this look of "where's the bird, where's the bird"!

They have been going off since sales started. I don’t mind them for me since I am not working, but last summer when I had to be up at 5 am and they set them off until 2 or 3 every morning was pretty damned annoying. I hated them when we had a dog, we had to give him Benadryl otherwise he would try to climb inside of me. And he was 76 pounds. It was torture for him. Our cat Kit LOVED them. Back when they were legal in our area she would watch them out our bedroom window. Periodically she would look over her shoulder and meow at me like she wanted me to know that that one was especially pretty.

I was coming to say that I haven't heard any this year. I was wrong they just started outside!
We are allowed Sparklers, poppers, and small ground ones. Nothing going up!. Does not mean they are not shot off here in the area though!

I don’t like loud noises at all so yes I’m dreading tonight. It’s getting dark now and I know it’s going to start soon. This has been my entire life; when everyone else wanted to go watch fireworks I was running for the hills.

I can see blue sky coming over the mountains. At least the ground is pretty saturated.

Not dreading, but curious. We recently moved to an area where fireworks are legal and there's a stand at the entrance to our neighborhood. Last night wasn't wild, and I've only heard the kids next door setting off little ones today. But supposedly one of the people whose property adjoins the community lake always has a ton of big fireworks on July 4th.

We had Disneyland annual passes for 10 years while our kids were growing up, and once you've been spoiled by Disney fireworks, everything else is just meh. One of my kids favorite childhood memories is being at Disneyland during Xmas and just as the fireworks started, a thick fog rolled in. All you could hear was muffled booms and see little flickers of light that looked like bursts of cotton candy. The only fog they had even seen in their lives was on Pirates of the Caribbean and they thought a special effect had gone wrong. . I have 2 dogs that are terrified of fireworks, one that could care less, and a first timer (in this house). He's scared of pretty much everything, so we are expecting him to be a mess. I don't mind professional firework displays, but I can't stand illegal ones in neighborhoods or seeing preschool/ elementary age children lighting the "safe and sane" ones without proper supervision (I'm looking at you my idiot ILs.)

I dread them every year. Not my thing. Me too. I really don’t like them. The noise bothers me a lot. Tonight’s really bad here even though all the usual big town displays were cancelled. Every yahoo is out setting them off. It’s been going on for more than 2 hours and I’m done with the noise (but they’re not yet done setting them off). My dog is so freaked out. Tonight’s bad, but expected. We’ve had people setting off fireworks in our neighborhood for more than a month. To the point that the police have put out announcements asking them to stop. Last week someone set off fireworks after midnight. Not acceptable.

We’re sitting on our deck watching all of our neighbors set them off. I’ve honestly never seen nor heard anything like it. It’s honestly better than our usual community show. It’s a little unnerving though, because it’s so close to our house.
