Please help me understand why people go off on other people when they are being recorded. The list of the happening is growing, and yet....

I think people who have public melt downs and fits are already lacking the self control that allows them to behave calmly and rationally. And once in a volatile situation, it’s too out of control to stop. Just like a toddler can’t just turn off a temper tantrum and resume normal, calm behaviour.

I'll never understand it either.
I do think we've also entered a world where there will be people that try to provoke an attack and film it. I had a friend who took his daughter to a bike shop and someone did that. Started harassing them for no reason and then had their phone out. Fortunately, my friend isn't a hot head and knew what was going on.

Because they think they are right. That it is okay to yell racial slurs and threaten people. It has been going on forever, people are just taping it now.

Lack of impulse control Mental health issues Knowing their privilege will mean no consequences
It’s important to note I’ve spent thousands and thousands of dollars on gym memberships and specialized training. I won’t be videoing someone verbally or physically attacking me and it’s unlikely this is a feeling exclusive to me.

I hope you mean "thinking" their privilege means no consequences, because there are (finally) now consequences for the horrible people doing this and being filmed. They are losing their jobs and basically their lives and I hate to say I am happy about that, but I am. However, to answer OP, people are very entitled. They just think they are right and they have a president behind them who agrees with them. It empowers them, unfortunately.

I have no idea. Maybe something breaks in their brain.
Though in my recent first hand experience, whipping out my camera had a chilling effect on the aggressive person's behavior. He kept his distance and changed his tone almost immediately.
Clearly this is not the usual response but it is what I observed.

Eventually they will return to work and likely even change their names. An asshole I worked hard to ensure had lasting consequences for his racist behavior went on to join the military. The empowerment they feel shouldn’t shock us and we can’t blame 45. Racial violence has went unpunished for hundreds of years and continues to have little or no consequence. I’m no longer leaving it to society to decide what should happen to people who wrong me because I already know how society views black women. 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/85746/honoring-african-american-veterans

Great question. I have speculated(to myself) that people are under tremendous stress from this virus. Job anxiety, schools reopening, isolation, etc are a few, but there are more, I’m sure. Add to that the political divide and it’s like a toxic national stew.

But it can be at such loss, like their job. I just can't imagine going off on someone so bad. At least with a mask on, people cant see I am talking to myself about idiots out there. And that is as far as I go.

I think in the case of some people they literally cannot stop once a boiling point has been reached. I've been on the receiving end of it and there was nothing to be done to get the other person to calm down.

i think when people are hyper focused on their meltdown, they won't notice or care about the camera.

Beyond the question of why people continue to rant when they are being recorded, is a bigger question.
Why do these people feel such hate, such animosity, toward another human being? Such strong feelings that they need to let loose their emotions, attacking people they don’t even know?
I know some people operate from a position of fear, but I truly don’t understand getting that kind of angry toward someone else, someone who may be different in some way (skin color, Ethnicity, religion, country of origin, whatever), but is still another human, more like each other than different. I don’t get it.

Yep. And people respond to their beliefs being challenged as if they're personal attacks - when they're not. If you challenge my belief, I separate it from you attacking me personally. You don't believe what I believe? That's not that unusual. I try not to flip out and say "You're attacking me!!!!"

It’s crazy. And a lot of them are getting fired as a result.
