This week I'm buying the supplies to make Graham cracker "gingerbread" houses. Graham crackers Various candies- spice drops, Necco wafers, peppermint & spearmint discs, sugared orange slice & spearmint slice candy, mini candycanes, etc. Powdered sugar for the icing So much easier & foolproof than using real gingerbread. I saw on tic tock that you can melt sugar on the stove and then dip the edges of your cookie house in there to weld the pieces together. Supposedly it works better than using icing when making your house. Do you get the Bahlsen Choco Leibnitz biscuits/cookies in the USA? The chocolate coating is so thick I make the houses by melting one edge and sticking them together like that. Really quick and easy and surprising how many sweets/candies can fit on a 2 x 3 inch roof as well. www.bahlsen.co.uk/products/bahlsen/choco-leibniz

mom, speaking of TIk Tok. Have you guys gotten sucked into the hot chocolate bombs yet? I saw a tutorial on YouTube and now I’m obsessed with making them. My silicone mold is coming next week. I’m so excited to stick the process of probably failing at making these in my December daily.

karinec you got the spelling correct - I just took a look and there's one crucial difference: The chocolate Leibniz cookies goes beyond the edge of the cookie part, which means it can be melted and joined to something else. In fact, from the teeny weeny picture I found, it looks like a direct reversal in terms of cookie:chocolate ratio. Could make joining them tricky....

Dunk into a hot cappuccino, oh yum... Amazon France's stock ran out when we went back into lockdown and now I'm on backorder for my monthly order of two boxes, le gasp. Not acceptable! ETA: elegantsufficiency replied and explained as I was typing out my response! elegantsufficiency 's recommendation is a different biscuit, however. The Petit Ecolier type of biscuits have a chocolate tablet on top of the biscuit whereas for the Choco Leibnitz biscuits, it's more like as though the biscuit/cookie is sunk into the tablet. These types of "sunk into" biscuits are also readily available over here from different brands, including store brands and the very famous (but alas, palm oil-containing) DéliChoc by Delacre. It's that extra chocolate surrounding the sides of the biscuit that gives you the built-in glue to melt and get the biscuits to stick together without anything extra but a bit of heat. You should be able to find an equivalent in the US. Petit Ecolier type of biscuits: "Sunk-into" type of biscuits:

hehehe, I'm giggling (and getting hungry) reading about everyone's chocolate/cookie/house plans. I have never really considered making a gingerbread house for myself, but now you're making it sound so fun. I could make a whole village out of fudge grahams and then eat them all myself. yummm. I watched A Timeless Christmas last night. Mansion owner winds a clock in 1903, gets dizzy, wakes up in 2020, finds actors pretending to be his staff in his mansion-turned-museum, doesn't react like a racist when 2020 turns out to be way more racially diverse than 1903 would've been (the plantation style house ticked my brain over to thinking about racism, so when the Black Sheriff turned up I was bracing myself for something that obvs was not coming in a Hallmark movie!) ANyway... it was a decent Hallmark movie. I watched it while sewing and didn't wander off. Time travel, vintage style, and man out of time/fish out of water tropes are always fun. BUT my reality-loving brain could not get behind their "Christmas moon" concept. Turns out a full moon on Christmas is remarkably rare, but they had to go all out and make it into a BLUE Christmas Eve moon, which is... impossible! If there's a full moon on the 24th the previous full moon was in November, therefore not a blue moon. Very good Christmas news: I have found someone who wants all of the terrifying Caroler figures my relatives collected. http://instagram.com/p/CGx4IoBgOkM http://instagram.com/p/CHwp9lJAt19

Gave it an extra star on the basis that it was better than Operation Christmas Drop. By the slim margin of a melted snowflake... 🤣 Christmas movies are ....Christmas movies and I never have high expectations. Christmas Chronicles surprised me last year I haven't watched that one yet. I watched the entire Christmas Prince series recently & the first Princess Switch and I liked all of those (I guess the third Christmas Prince was a little meh, but it was fine). So I definitely don't have high standards for these movies! Now I'm questioning if I should remove Operation Christmas Drop from my list... there are so many options! Oh no! Don't remove it from your watch list!!! It's still a Christmas movie! And it was great to see a non snowy Christmas... and Operation Christmas Drop is an actual thing that's done which is really cool. The schmaltz was just a bit jangly for my taste.... but you know I totally watched the whole thing 😁🎅

I actually like Operation Christmas Drop. But it had two of my favorite things: the islands and men in uniform, so there’s that. Eta: I didn't express myself well. I liked the theme and the ending. I just didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Something felt off, pretty sure it was the French voices.

My local grocery store carries them so hopefully they are available near you. What doesn't seem to be easily available in the USA is LU's Cent wafer cookies. They were sold here for a while under another name. Those are my mom's favorites. Before LU started selling in the USA my great uncle would send my grandmother a big box every Christmas filled with Belgian chocolates and those cookies. This discussion had me looking for artificial color and flavor free candy for the gluten free gingerbread houses. I'd had good luck at Target for Halloween but not so much now. Two orders have been placed including food color and metallic paints for cookie decorating. My kids are going to have so much fun! deekaye sent me an RAK of December documenting goodies which arrived this weekend. The youngest has decided to get in on the fun, so she got first dibs to put a kit together for herself. They both had a great time going through it all this afternoon!

Looking for some help here, please.
My daughter, one stepdaughter and I are all doing December Daily. Another stepdaughter is currently pregnant, due in April. She has a very busy job and is not crafty at all. I've talked to her about DD and how great it would be to document this year so one day her daughter could see what they went through in December 2020. She's hesitant, but interested.
Can anyone point me to DD videos that are super, super simple? I'm afraid to show her any crafty videos because that would be a huge deterrent for her. I just ordered the HSN DD kit for her and I told her a picture and a story/description for each day would be perfect.
Thanks!

Actually, the HSN video does a good job of showing it put together simply, with only photos, a pen for journaling, and some adhesive (if you want to add the embellishments that come in the kit) in addition to the kit. www.hsn.com/youtube/product/craftsandsewing/LTwtUifoHVM

I printed a couple of movie stills for my December album last night. 4x6 feels luxuriously large after doing 4x4 throughout 2020. I caught myself thinking: "What do I do with all this space?" several times... Snapped a photo of my flu vaccine packaging this morning. Vaccinated and happy to add that "small" memory to my album. It's the little things... (oh, to call vaccination a little thing, how very first world of me)

Stepfather is a medical doctor, hehehe. *looks around uneasily* I didn't even have to beg for one; getting vaccinated is the only way he'll allow me to keep helping them out once in a while as the pandemic rages on despite my constant wearing of a FFP2/N95 mask around them and keeping a safe distance and airing out the rooms when I'm around. Fingers crossed you get one soon! Any news from the pharmacist on when you're able to get one?

He's right, you can never be too careful. Isn't it difficult to breathe in a FFP2 mask? My father had to do so for work and he said he was exhausted by the end of the day (but the working conditions clearly didn't help). The nearest pharmacist said he won't get any more vaccines. The other said he doesn't know he will have some back in stock. I don't mind too much for myself. It's my mother I'm worried about. She's rarely sick, but every time she gets the darn 'flu she has complications. Last year she had to be rushed to the ER. Finger and toes crossed she doesn't catch it this year.

Isn't it difficult to breathe in a FFP2 mask? My father had to do so for work and he said he was exhausted by the end of the day (but the working conditions clearly didn't help). I've had the pleasure (ahem) of testing out several FFP2/N95 masks since March. One model was significantly less easy to breathe in. The three other ones were totally fine. Sure, it's not as easy to breathe in as a regular disposable surgical mask but nothing that particularly bothered me. You do have this bubble of hot air constantly around your mouth and nose area so when you sweat, say moving furniture around during the hottest days of summer (don't ask), you're in for a surprise when you take off your mask: wet skin galore (and definitely not safe for sealing purposes). I can imagine that it would be quite difficult if you had one of those hard-to-breathe-in models combined with physical labour. I don't mind too much for myself. It's my mother I'm worried about. She's rarely sick, but every time she gets the darn 'flu she has complications. Last year she had to be rushed to the ER. Oh no! Didn't her médecin traitant put her on the priority list? She should've been in the first batch of vaccine recipients. I'm in the third delivery batch and my vaccine was made available at the pharmacy last week. My stepfather and mother were in the second delivery batch although they qualified for the first (some of the first delivery were sold by error to non-prioritary patients). I wish I could mail you one. Alas, it has to be kept in the fridge between 2 and maximum 8°C.

Ugh, I spent 10 minutes typing and it all vanished. My father worked in a nuclear plant. He had to wear protective gear (like this: www.honeywellsafety.com/Products/Protective_Clothing/Mururoa.aspx?LangType=1036&site=/fr). As you said, that, physical labour and the FFP2 mask must have been extra hard. Poor Dad. I don't think he did, because she received her 'flu shot "voucher" by mail. I'll have to ask about that. Thank you so much for even thinking of doing that for her. I know it's not possible, but it still warms my heart.

My mother was furious as a union representative in the nuclear industry. I'm guessing your father worked in nuclear waste management? If he was on plongée duty, I have a pretty good (abstract) idea of how tough the working conditions and environment were since my mother discussed this at length with other union representatives. She vented about this and other major issues often privately. From what I understand, those on plongée duty are the most poorly treated and underpaid in the private sector intervening on nuclear sites in France. If she got her Assurance Maladie voucher, she's registered as high risk and priority so it should've been all good. Ugh, how frustrating. There's no reason the pharmacist didn't fill her order then. I texted my stepfather and he thinks there may be another batch arriving at his local pharmacy. Can you call around and see if any pharmacist has some coming in? At this stage, it's worth spending 30 minutes on the phone and trying to secure a dose. It's unfair she didn't get one since she's registered high risk.

There are no flu clinics here. Most people see an independent nurse or their general practitioner to have it injected. With a medical doctor in the family, I skipped the step of going to my doctor to be vaccinated. cbscrapper This is the packaging I meant:
